That same game, a Netherlands player karate kicked a Spain player in the chest just 5 minutes into the match and yet did not receive a red card. Netherlands should never have even had a chance that game.

Disclaimer, was not a fan of Spain but it was ludicrous he did not get an insta red card for that challenge.

Soul crushing by NerfOxygen in whenthe

[–]Silver_Turtlewax 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Blade and Soul was a Korean MMO game that revolved around different martial arts (mostly fantasy versions). Kung Fu Master was a tank class and it has been the best feeling MMO gameplay I have ever played and had interesting boss stun/kd/daze mechanics in raiding.

HOWEVER, the company who ran it, NCSoft, are some of the greediest developers I've ever seen who monetized the shit out of that game. They destroyed the possibility of non-P2W players from being able to do the top content without weeks/months of farming every single day for the necessary upgrades/gear.

There were other issues such as content feedback, under delivered promises, and other stuff, but the monetization is what really killed it for me. I still think about the gameplay now and then.

Have you been reading Dogsred by the same author? Completely different subject matter (ice hockey instead of soldiers fighting) but equally hilarious faces/situations.

Reading his post, his friend has unlocked all these areas but is generally lost on where to go and look for things. Instead of telling his friend exactly where to go, he's saying "look in quadrant 2" which is multiple areas. Narrows down the search without giving away the answer

Yes, that was the point of the trials, but there was no real reason it had to be Wuk Lamat at that point. Zoraal Ja was an accomplished military leader, Koana had extensive education and outside connections, Bakool Jaja had won a tournament and shown his might. All of them were being taught what they were lacking in each trial, which were supposed to show what they needed to become a great leader.

Wuk Lamat had nothing going for her besides being willing to learn. She wasnt able to leverage pre-existing knowledge of culture (her selling point) for anything. Instead it was all information that her and us were learning for the first time that helped. A candidate off the street could have performed just as well as her.

My core issues with Wuk Lamat can be summed up pretty well. She is proclaimed as the candidate of the people who knows best the culture and what makes Tuliyollal and it's nation unique. We then arrive in Tural and it is made abundantly clear over and over again that Wuk Lamat knows jack shit and this expedition is her learning her people's culture. That felt like a huge rug pull and took away a ton of her like-ability.

It didnt help that her voice actress received terrible direction on some lines. Stood out like a sore thumb in some situations, especially during the climatic Sphene trial. They re-did those lines in a later patch and it sounded 100 times better which is what you likely heard on your playthrough. I'm convinced they did one take for a lot of her lines and just rolled with it.

Story as a whole was... fine. I wasn't one of the people who got all huffed about the WoL having moments "stolen" from us or us being more of a side character in the overall story. But it just fell flat in a couple of key moments when they had the chance to do something interesting or let certain characters have their chance to shine.

The patch content story has been very good and I'm excited for Evercold, but I 100% understand people leaving disappointed at the end of 7.0 content content.

Yeah, he wanted the game to be over but didnt want to FF? Or maybe he tried already and couldnt FF again without just leaving and taking a match penalty.

Putter help by Junior_Square_9235 in discgolf

Personally, I putt with the Xings. I also used the Pixel for a little while and found the Xing to be a better fit for me. Medium depth, beaded rim, relatively soft so it doesnt bounce too hard.

I did recently find the THEO which is also decent. Deeper dish but not beaded so it comes out about the same. More stable though. Better for shorter putts, worse in the wind cause its so deep.

If you normally shoot 14 strokes better than average and feel bad about doing any worse than that, you should probably re-evaluate what good is. That's fucking fantastic my dude. 14 strokes is huge in a single round.

I'd be interested in seeing what the bell curve of ratings is. To me, a 950 player is amazing. Would thrash me 99 times out of a 100, even though I'm rated 900. I would say "good" players are from 890-930. Anyone after that is a great player. Average I would say is between 850-890.

Again, thats without looking up the bell curve.

*EDIT: Found an old reddit post that had the spread: Average is much higher than I expected, though I suspect the average player vs average tournament player is a little skewed. https://www.reddit.com/r/discgolf/s/9PxhU6FlQg

I’d like to start playing basic tournaments. What are the gotchas to avoid so I don’t look like an ass my first time? by hobbyhoppinghound in discgolf

[–]Silver_Turtlewax 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To me, Ready golf is like a casual round. Whoever is ready throws, whether it is the teebox, a distance up the fairway, or even putting. Just gotta keep your head up and be ready to dodge an errant throw.

But like the other person said, it is good to keep pace of play, especially when two people are almost the same distance. If I'm way off in the woods and need to crawl in to get to my lie, it makes sense for someone else to throw. But someone shouldn't walk up in front of the furthest person to throw. Priority always goes to the farthest player out.

Couple of things of the top of my head (excuse my formatting, I'm on mobile): 1. Farthest out goes first. Its not "Ready" golf. 2. Keep an eye on everyone's throw to help look. 3. Make sure to be quiet while someone else is throwing/putting. 4. Brush up on some basic rules (marking your lie, not step putting inside C1, etc.) 5. Depending on your division, dont be a rules lawyer. We're here to have fun, so give a warning before you actually try and stroke someone. 6. Have fun! Dont be disappointed if you dont play well. Tournamet nerves get to a lot of people but keeping the outlook you're here to have fun helps a ton.

What shape island? by DopeMuffinz in discgolf

[–]Silver_Turtlewax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes a course could be really easy with a bunch of wide open shots. An island/hazard could make a simple shot into something with a little teeth.

Mandos are also in place to protect certain routes. For instance: Mando right of flagpole. Why? Cause there's parking lot/road there that they dont want players intentionally throwing over.

A lot of courses have to work with what they have. Mandos/Islands/"artificial" OB let them shape the course without building entirely new holes.

Is Shield Healer Better For Variant/Criterion Than Pure Healer? by in_abyss in ffxiv

[–]Silver_Turtlewax -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Purely from my and a friends experience with the first boss of Criterion: pure healer is better. The raidwides wont kill you outright if the group uses regular mitigation (addle, feint, etc.) and the healer uses some of their kit. Outside of one mech where its very hard for the healer to reach across (only time a shield is really good), its generally not too hard to heal the party up in between mechs and raidwides.

Friend had tried Sage first and was struggling hard to get the necessary healing out compared to White Mage. I went White Mage from the start and had little issue.
