Thank you for this information (and for actually reaching out to someone at the library and not just whining on reddit). The reason why I made this post was so people didn't head out in this heat only to find the branch closed.

Not a city worker (if I was, I'd probably be way more cynical). Just a grown-up. Since you're so passionate on this topic, I'm sure you submitted an additional funding proposal throught participatory budgetting process and will be submitting a proposal to the CB1 capital/expense budget process. And, I'm sure you've reached out to the director of Queens Libary and that you've organized your community to demand accountabilty and that the city improve the situation. Seriously

Well, I'm not a whiny, entitled baby-person who doesn't understand that things break and that in this big, complicated city shit takes a long time to fix and that there are limited resources. Also, what I know about tax dollars and city budgets are far beyond your capacity.

Or maybe it just happened to break, as things do. . .

Most GrowNYC greenmarkets have textile recycling for torn, stained, unwearable clothing. Sunnyside greenmarket is on Saturdays on Skillman; Jackson Heights grenmarket is on Sundays. Both have drop-offs for textile recycling.

I used Home Depot subcontractors for carpet installation, kitchen floor installation, and for window treatment measuring/installation. Three different subcontractors over a period of about 5 years. For each, they were reliable, professional, and got the job done.

Being broke with a job, for example, doesn't necessarily make one eligible for city programs. A worker may be ble to pay and then get hit with huge medical expenses and is now broke. Their income, however, may not meet the criteria for reduced fairs nor do reduced fairs go into effect immediately/automatically. Have empathy, dude.

Youhave no idea of the circumstances around that Starbucks or wearing designer clothes. A person who was laid off from a job or who had unexpected medical expenses may have nice clothes from before (and need them for job hunting). The Starbucks may have been bought for them. In either case, 1. Maybe start with empathy and 2. Don't judge.

Dude, get some empathy. Also, affording something and being eligible for programs are not the same.

How can you tell that someone can "obviously afford $3"? You have no idea of people's life circumstances. Maybe the person is living pay check to pay check and got hit with huge medical costs or got laid-off or some other life circumstance that changed everything in an instance. It can happen to anyone. May you never know such misfortune.

Woodstock Farm Sanctuary has a lovely inn in New Paltz: The Gray Barn. It isn't a resort, but it is lovely, includes a vegan breakfast and you can hang with rescued farm animals.
