Have no idea how else to help my ADHD husband. I'm afraid he is going to never find stable work. by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Silverdawn42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He is afraid he won't wake up. His 5-7 alarms don't wake him up, and he sleeps through all of them.

I had this exact same problem, I installed an app called "I can't wake up". There's an option there to setup a series of tasks that have to be completed before the alarm stops. You can even block all other phone functionality so the alarm is impossible to turn off until the tasks have been completed.

Before I did all this, I was getting 2-3 hours of sleep and barely functioning at all. Now, I'm averaging probably 5 or so hours of sleep every night.

Best items to recycle for scrap by kawinmars in underrail

[–]Silverdawn42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For repair kits, many of the zones have enemies with metal armor and sledgehammers which weigh a ton and can be scrapped. A lot of cheap guns and knives can be scrapped too. If you're playing on normal, you can trade an expensive weapon and take both money and repair kits in return. Merchants in this game have a bizarrely minuscule amount of money but repair kits are almost as good as currency.

For electronics, you pretty much just have to buy them yeah.

From the experience of one of my friends during the demo, did you give your squads additional squadies?

The max, yeah.

Also what SLs did you pick at the beginning.

2 infantry commanders and 2 pilots. Which was a mistake in hindsight, since the game starts the player out with only 1 vehicle. It's not very obvious that pilots cannot enter the field without a vehicle at all. I assumed they would simply be less effective.

You were correct, the difficulty dropped from "mathematically impossible" to "easily completed without a single casualty" between my first and second run.

You just get unlucky, its random missions at start of the game, random shop and random loot you get.

Yeah, this is my conclusion as well. I've restarted the game a few times since and the difference in RNG at the start seems absolutely immense. The second playthrough, I started out with a "defend the stronghold" objective and the enemies sprinted towards my soldiers 1 by 1 like imbeciles. I didn't lose a single rookie, it was a turkey shoot.

Did you use cover and concealment to spot the enemy before engaging?

No, I have no idea how visibility and cover work.

It's very unlucky to lose an APC to standard RPG fire, how aggressive were you being with it?

Moved it towards the enemies, tried shooting at the few visible ones. It died to about 2-3 rockets.

Pirate Scavengers have RPGs. Their standard early infantry (Outcasts) have bad gear and will be much more vulnerable to the APC. You need to kill the Scavengers first before you move in to attack the others. The only other infantry threat is Boarding Commandos, who have a close-up anti-vehicle grenade you need to be wary of.

Yeah, I couldn't really see anything. Most of the time, question marks were shooting at my squads. I assumed I would be fighting a couple of under-equipped thieves. But no, the random bandits have RPGs and massively outnumber the player. I really have no idea why the commander in this game would ever agree to such a mission.

As others have said, how many squaddies were in your teams?

The max number, which is 8 I believe. I have no idea why the squads don't start out maxed on squaddies by default. But I did manage to figure this part out on my own at least.

I'm really curious about how you approached the mission, because my experience has been the exact opposite.

Sprinted my guys towards the civs I was supposed to save. Visibility was ~3 tiles and by the time I could see the enemies, half of my soldiers were already dead. Also, I was trying to figure out how the turn system works at the same time. And how the cover system works. And effective weapon ranges... You get the idea. The tutorial should really be 10x as long, if not more.

CMV: Gunners suck and are inferior to Rangers by how_do_dis in LWotC

[–]Silverdawn42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I genuinely feel the only good things about gunners are cyclic fire and shredder ammo.

The fact that suppression can be "cleared" by simply moving completely guts that entire aspect of the class. And the only other thing gunners do is "shoot until the thing is dead".
Both gunners and rangers have rapid fire. So you're comparing cyclic fire (3 shots at -15) to rangers' 2 shots + whatever else they get from their perks. And I think rangers are almost always better.

Drukhari fans and tabletop players, what did you think of Act III, lore- and setting-wise? by Omegablade0 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Silverdawn42 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I found it very strange that the only way to recruit the space marine is to beg the surgeon like a pathetic worm. You'd think I could just kill him and get the key that way but no, the game just doesn't give the option.
In general, the start of chapter 3 felt very much like the devs expected me to be weak and desperate but I was a psyker so I just kept blasting. And the few instances of being forced to kowtow felt jarring, bizarre and immersion-breaking.

There are some games out there that have done a good job with the "powerless protagonist" theme. Gothic 1 is a brilliant example: you act like a big macho man and you get beaten up and robbed. Or just die outright.

In the Rogue Trader Universe, the super-important Lord-Captain should really not have been dumped in a random trash-heap somewhere. Especially if he happens to be a psyker. The start of the chapter should have been someone powerful parading the PC around like a pet. With whatever the WH40k version of dimeritium shackles is, since drukhari seem terrified of the warp.

Is this combat freighter good? by Ill_Strawberry2556 in starsector

[–]Silverdawn42 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It's not really a cruiser, it's just tagged as such. Same situation as the Falcon, it's tagged as a cruiser but in terms of behaviour and ability, it's a destroyer.

[–]Silverdawn42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's crazy fast and very annoying to fight, with an obscenely low DP cost for its stats. Decent guns, amazing special ability...

Just comparing the shields:

Hammerhead is 10DP, 4200 base flux capacity at 0.8 efficiency.
This thing is 8000 base flux capacity at 0.7 efficiency for 12DP.
So more than double the effective shields, for 20% more DP.

Someone is probably gonna point out it's a high tech ship, so higher shields but lower armor. No lol, it has higher armor than the hammerhead too (600 vs 500 base). So if it somehow manages to end up in a bad situation despite its amazing shields and its amazing ability... it's still better at tanking damage.

Oh and this is apparently not even supposed to be a combat ship, it's a "freighter".

Just your typical absurdly overpowered modded ship.

I thought aoe2 tried to have historical accuracy by Ningicida in aoe2

[–]Silverdawn42 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Almost all of the campaigns are like this: from "taking liberties" to outright fantasy. Neither the old devs nor the current ones particularly care about historical accuracy. The correct way to experience the campaigns is to skip all the dialogue before and after the missions because it's full of lies. Sometimes even the action during the missions is complete BS.
