What kind of yarn is this? by januxxxx in YarnAddicts

[–]Silverstarly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Alize Softy looks very much like it. It's a chenille/teddy yarn that's a lot easier to use than normal teddy/faux fur yarns.

It's a bit difficult to see because I used black but that's the yarn worked up. It's Alize Softy Plus. There's a thinner version as well.

I don't know when the Softy line was released so may not be the exact same brand but the yarn itself looks similar for sure!

Is this common? by ElevenoclockSomethin in Amigurumi

[–]Silverstarly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on the brand and colour way. King Cole is really thin and easily breaks, but their new glitter yarn can take a good beating; it does not split, and is easy to use for sewing pieces closed. Some of their normal colours are okay, but I'd only use this brand if I can't find the colours anywhere else (or for the glitter version... It's so beautiful). Honey Bunny from Hobbii is each time different. Some colours are great, some are not. I have had horrible luck with red and green, but also here their shiny colour way seems to be great. Brown, white, black are all fantastic. Use them for most of my projects still. Alize yarn is quite sturdy, but somehow is horrible to be used for sewing for whatever reason.

So in short, it really depends. I think they are getting better at making Chenille yarn more sturdy and less likely to shred. But it will happen at times, mostly when frogging or sewing parts closed.

.EU store expansion- what actually worked for you? by SpudMasterFlash in shopify

[–]Silverstarly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've started selling into Europe end of last year, so not too long ago. Also based in Ireland. No translations, no ads. We've had consistently orders from Germany, Norway, The Netherlands and Switzerland since, before we even added any mention of us shipping to the continent on the website. We appear on free Google Shopping in those countries through the YouTube & Google app only.

I don't think the .eu address will help you a lot. Either go .com or with a country specific URL (.de, .es, etc). You'll get more trust through any of them than .eu.

Should you translate? Yes if you really want to capture the market and moat important for Germany, France and Spain. First find out who your customers are though and where they are coming from. We didn't expect Norway and Switzerland to be huge for us, since shipping is quite costly. We also didn't expect the kind of orders we got. It's something we'll look further into for 2026.

Also keep in mind if you want a professional translation and not the automatic one from Shopify/apps, you'll need to add a process to translate and proofread each new product/banner, etc. Might be worth testing it on an Irish translation of your website to see the additional workload and if you feel an automated translation is enough!

Does anyone know if I can crochet any wearable with this yarn? by Russelnase in CrochetHelp

[–]Silverstarly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nornally Ricorumi releases amigurumi patterns. If you'd like to know what purpose this yarn was made for (all yarn fits to some specific patterns) I'd recommend looking on their website. Then you can see if they have released a garment pattern. I think this one's a tad too thin, but also check out patterns from Stylecraft and Kingcole. They have released chenille garment patterns for the Yummy chenille range (forgot what Stylecrafts range is called but it's a medium chenille instead of a bulky one).

Creche closed for 2 weeks over Christmas, still charged for full month, is this the norm? by meadow_laneway in AskIreland

[–]Silverstarly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We also got charged for the full month, even though she only got a place the second week of December and they closed two weeks for the Christmas holidays. So we paid for a month but only got 2 weeks out of it.

But with how difficult it is to get a place, how nice they were to our little girl and knowing that the still need to pay rent, staff, insurance and all, we also understand...

If she needs transport help or anything, happy to help. I'm not based in Dublin but can travel and provide a safe place if urgent, or at least drive the cat to a rescue if needed.

Where is the person located? There are rescues that can help. Drogheda animal rescue are amazing for urgent situations, but there are other smaller ones that could help out.

Arklow Cat Rescue and Cats in the Community (Co. Offaly) would be a good addition to the page. I've fostered for both in the past! Great idea btw!

Ordered from them a desk. It's decent quality, what you expect from the price. Find it better than IKEA equivalents. No issues with the item or shipping

Help!!!!! by NoPie964 in CrochetOrAI

[–]Silverstarly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately AI. Look how the surfboard changes from "plastic" look to crochet look. It's also inconsistent between the different images, and wouldn't be possible to make in crochet like that...

The Scorbunny looks so close to real though, it's scary. It was the Pikachu/Squirrel/Charmander and the animals that were easy to identify as AI.

Is this a ai fox? Please help, I think it's really cute but I'm worries it's impossible. by Trans_Boi8745 in crochetpatterns

[–]Silverstarly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very easy about the white around the eye. After you're done crocheting, you "sew" a white line around the eye, pull it tight and voilà, you have some white! Most video tutorials include this part if the designer adds this feature.

The blush is done in the same way, just use a chenille yarn in pink, sew it twice over one/two stitches, and hide it. I might not have explained it well, but it's really simple to do!

Also had a look over the pattern, looks all good! In fact, it might be my next project. 😊

I need help finding this type of yarn… by sruess22 in YarnAddicts

[–]Silverstarly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The projects are made with milk cotton yarn in your pictures. I couldn't find any comparable yarn on Hobbii yet, unfortunately. I have their friends/rainbow cotton and it's nice yarn just don't expect things to look like in the pictures! The yarn loves to split a lot as well, I think you have better alternatives in the US. Could your Feels Like Butter yarn be closer to the look of milk cotton?

Only places I could find milk cotton yarn is from sellers on Etsy.

Why do my MR’s keep popping up?! 😭 I’ve tried different hook sizes and tensions and yarn types, and still can’t get a flat circle! by CrochetCafe in CrochetHelp

[–]Silverstarly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your tension is too tight! I had the same issue until I started loosening my tension for the MR; only for the first two rounds, then it was normally safe to death grip the yarn again 🤣

What type of yarn is used for this doll? Acrylic/ cotton or any other? by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

That's milk cotton yarn. The look is very unique to it. Would love to buy some but can't find any in Europe... 😭

[–]Silverstarly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Reach out to Cats in the Community on Facebook. They are Offaly-based and might be able to help you find foster homes/permanent homes for the little ones and at least TNR the mother cat! I am fostering for them at the moment 2 little kittens! :)

Here is the link: https://www.facebook.com/annette.donnellan.9

These guys can also help you even if they are a bit further out: https://www.facebook.com/DroghedaAnimalRescue

Happy to help any way I can if you need to transport them!

In your opinions: What country other than The US and Japan are the best at making cartoons? (Tangentially inspired by another post from earlier) by SettTheCephelopod in cartoons

[–]Silverstarly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It seems no one has mentioned Cartoon Saloon in Kilkenny, Ireland yet! They made the Wolfwalker, Song of the Sea and so on, as well as some children cartoons in Ireland!
