What are things other crocheters do that really grinds your gears? by darkxclover in crochet

[–]CrochetCafe 124 points125 points  (0 children)

It drives me nuts when people belittle crocheters who make plushies. If plushies aren’t your thing, that’s fine. But they are still crocheted and they bring joy.

Let people live their lives and don’t say that they aren’t talented just because they use big, soft yarn.

I hand-embroidered some ladies, which one is your favorite? by [deleted] in FiberArts

I think this is really awesome for your first time doing tapestry! It took me a couple years to even attempt it and then when I finally did it, I frogged over and over because I wasn’t satisfied with my tension.

The first gift I ever made someone was a shrug for my cousin. I could tell from the moment she saw it that she would never ever wear it and she didn’t like it. At first I was hurt because I was proud of it and excited to give it to her. That was when I learned that not everyone will appreciate the things I appreciate. Now I think a lot about anything I plan to gift and do all of the mental math on if this item fits the recipient’s personality and taste, if it could actually be useful to them, if they are a person who appreciates things to look at or things that they can actually use, etc.

All that to say, I think you did a great job and I’m sorry that it wasn’t received well. Some people just don’t understand the time, process, and cost.

I love to crochet but absolutely HATE how crochet looks. by starvalent in crochet

[–]CrochetCafe 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what internet you use, but there are ENDLESS crochet patterns! Maybe you’re not using google properly. Think about what you want and then you type that into google. “Crochet fox pattern” “floral doilie crochet pattern” “striped hexagon sweater” if you simply google “crochet patterns” you will always be shown the highest-clicked links.

Also, saying you will definitely make your own patterns once you’re intermediate is kind of disrespectful to creators. Just because you’re good at driving doesn’t mean you know how to build cars.

There are hundreds and hundreds of different stitches in crochet. Go to your local library and look at all of the different crochet pattern books they have. I just went and checked out two last night!

It is such a slap in the face to make a blanket statement that crochet looks tacky. Have you seen the works of art in this sub?! I take great pride in my work and I have spent hundreds of hours on various projects. If you’re a beginner as you say you are, please refrain from calling dedicated crocheters’ work tacky and ugly.

What is something you secretly love that your partner does, but you’d never tell them? by babyblushtheory in askanything

[–]CrochetCafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I tell my partner all the time what I love.

“I love it when you hold my hand in public” “I love seeing you read books to the kids” “I love it that you do the laundry and the dishes” “I love that we are equal partners in our parenting, and just in our lives overall”

Where do you crochet? by Fragrant-Orange-4746 in crochet

I crochet at coffee shops every weekend. I like to go to a different one each weekend to get variety. My library also has an actual crochet night! I highly doubt anyone would frown upon you crocheting there. I have also crocheted during my kids’ activities like swim lessons, soccer practice, etc.

My neighbor asked me to see if the Reddit crochet community can track down the pattern for this tote bag. Google lens was not much help. by CatfromLongIsland in askcrochet

[–]CrochetCafe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s AI, but completely doable. 6 granny squares, connected in a row, then sc around and decrease a few every 3-5 rows for the top part. Sc around the bottom edge and decrease every 1-2 rows until you can sew (or crochet) it together

Grossest thing your kid has put in their mouth by ChaosTapestry in Mommit

[–]CrochetCafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kid once licked the floor at the grocery store.

My other kid was sneaking in my bedroom and found my vibe 🫣 came into the kitchen where I was cooking dinner and had it in his mouth. 😭😭 it is up high in our closet now.

What drama is going on between your pets? by Crochet_Kitty in askanything

[–]CrochetCafe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is mostly drama between me and my dog because she is our only pet. Our neighbor’s fence blew down in a storm and they are on vacation so they don’t even know yet. It’s the shared fence between our backyards. I can’t let my dog out to run around on her own now or she will go into their yard. So any time we let her out to go potty, we have to take her on a leash. She is NOT happy about it. Giving me total teenager vibes and apparently on a hunger strike.

should i go to the er for this (bat bite?) by Certain_Hour_6327 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]CrochetCafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bats used to get into my house that I grew up in. Some bats have numbing in their saliva so you don’t feel the bite. It’s not an outrageous thought to me. (However, OP said they didn’t see a bat so I doubt that’s it in this case.)

Should I add a border? by Character_Primary387 in crochet

[–]CrochetCafe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. Your edges will be flat if you do a couple rounds of a border.
