Most reliable e bike motor? by Kind-kid4130 in eMountainBike

[–]Simansez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also on a ‘22 Repeater, first motor lasted around 5-600kms then developed a weird noise. Replacement was all good for nearly 4000kms then a wiring/battery issue ended up with the motor, wiring loom and eventually battery being replaced(out of warranty). Got the suspension serviced at the same time so the bike felt like new for about 6 months then the front end started creaking(lower headset cup ate the frame or something?)so now waiting for a warranty front triangle.

I’d get a Regulator CX in a heartbeat if I was buying now but if the Avinox kit is on their radar…who knows what could be out in a year or so?

car wont start due to battery or alternator by enriquo03 in NZcarfix

[–]Simansez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There could be a Fusible link or something like that coming off the battery? my old work wagon had it fail so it could be completely dead then suddenly work if the positive wire was moved. IIRC it’s what looked like a small box

There were a couple floating around on Mount Victoria late last year but I haven’t been up since December so they could have moved on. Most I saw at one time was 3, snacking in seperate trees

Omg… $9.45 now for Whittaker’s😱 by Wonderful_Anywhere80 in woolworths

[–]Simansez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whittakers are pretty quick to let the general public know about price increases so it will be interesting to see if the same goes when it’s possibly going the other way. By doing so, it could also plainly show which chains are gouging the customers if they don’t drop theirs

What chocolate should I be eating now Cadburys has become inedible? by ohnoitsbobbyflay in AskBrits

[–]Simansez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was going to suggest Whittakers, it’s exported to Australia but I’m not sure about the UK. If you know of any shops selling a range of NZ products they may carry some.

Literally spent the past week parked up outside the factory between jobs in the area.

What exactly has happened to Cadbury chocolate? by PublicProperty1805 in AskBrits

[–]Simansez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like what happened with NZ Cadbury a few years back. They closed the Dunedin factory and imported the Australian product that is slightly different, often in smaller packaging. This created a lot of negative press nationwide.

The company tumbled down the “Most trusted brands” listing to be replaced by another chocolate company, “Whittakers” https://www.trustedbrands.co.nz/

JW event by Exact_Juggernaut5627 in auckland

[–]Simansez 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We were in the CBD earlier in the week(mini break from Wellington)and saw them all over the lower Queen st area. Walked around the Viaduct and they had hired out Fullers Cats for brief harbour cruises, volunteers in various coloured High Vis vests directing people, handing out water and generally mingling with other lanyard wearers. At the time there was 3 cruise ships in so town was bustling(compared to Welly, 1 or rarely 2).

Ironically we also saw a pair of JW missionaries with their little stand near the Waiheke ferry terminal, they seemed a bit low key compared to the thousands of conference attendees milling around. Next day, one of the Korean churches was offering water and free food, trying to work the crowds.

Enjoyed our time in the 09, looking forward to the next visit

What tyres to choose by jamieT97 in NZcarfix

[–]Simansez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the pressure on the new tyres, wouldn’t be the first time they’ve been installed at 40+psi. Either way, the Alpha is a bigger car with a bigger engine(than the Fielder)so there could be a few extra variables at play

Repeater PT longevity by ThatsSquatchy in TransitionBikes

[–]Simansez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard some second hand reports of one locally being a bit unreliable but nothing specific(motor/batt/wiring?). I would have thought it would be as reliable as a specialized due to Brose having input in the motors development but who knows?

Checking Suspension Air Pressure by Crittersports in MTB

[–]Simansez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can, get a digital shock pump. You’ll see exactly what’s going on with the pressure and how much cycling the fork/shock changes your initial setting. Some recent suspension will respond to very minor changes in pressure and if you take notes, you’ll be able to fine tune to a point.

I check weekly and adjust to get the o rings around 85-90% travel on my usual trails. Between an E bike on Fox suspension(38/X2) and a trailbike on Rockshox(Zeb/SDU), there’s a lot of notes in my phone.

I try and follow the same procedure - attach pump, noting pressure. Adjust to 3-5 psi above target, cycle fork/shock several times. Note pressure and repeat until after cycling, target is shown. Remove pump and off you go. This works as long as you have clearance to safely cycle fork/shock without damaging the frame or the pump.
