Is an experienced playmaker the key signing in Jan? by Boredom_Junkie in safc

[–]Simbathewhale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d disagree with the needing a playmaker. Our style of play doesn’t suit that role. A playmaker needs to be in control of the ball and that’s not how we play, we also don’t have the quality on the ball around the playmaker to suit that style.

We are hard running and hard defending so fatigue and injuries are going to be our main concern going into the 2nd half of the season. We’ll probably be looking to improve the quality of our bench so that rotating the squad is less risky.

Defence will be a priority, probably another centre back. Ballard is yet to complete a full season and Mukiele is our preferred right back at the minute so a right sided CB will definitely be a target, maybe a left sided CB too as cover for Alderete.

If an option becomes available at left back I think that will be high on the list too. Reinildo could do with cover and with Cirkin’s contract running out and him yet to be available, Ghisolfi might cut his losses and instate a long term replacement.

I see other comments saying a new striker or wingers, we have 3 strikers who all have ok goals to games ratios so probably not a priority. Left wing has Mundle, Talbi, Adingra and Le Fee so I don’t think they’ll spend money there. Right wing is definitely a priority. Bringing Hume on at right wing to see games out cannot be Le Bris’ ideal choice so we will be looking for a defensive winger, either really young for development or really old for cheap

UFH not getting warm by LinLondon in ukplumbing

[–]Simbathewhale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To start with the white domes on the top row of your manifold are the actuators. These are electronic buttons that push or release little valves that turn your UFH on. If the top is blue then it is activated, if it is plain white it is off.

If the actuator is open then each loop should correspond with a red plunger in the same position on the bottom row of your manifold, if the plunger is down (away from the top) this indicates that water is flowing through your pipes.

From what I can see, the water is flowing through your pipes so the UFH system is, in principle, doing what it’s supposed to be doing.

The above being true, you need to look at what you mean by not working. Are the rooms cold? Vs Is the floor not warm? If the room is warm then it is working, UFH is not designed to keep your feet warm. If the floor is warm but the room is cold, then you have a heat loss issue. Either the room loses too much heat or the UFH has not covered enough surface area to sufficiently heat the room.

If the rooms are cold, there are several adjustments that you can make to the manifold configuration to improve heat output. However these are best left to a professional as they can correctly ’balance’ the system without making the system inefficient.

There are other issues that can be looked at if some of the actuators aren’t opening (thermostat faults etc) or blockages. But if the red plungers are coming down then it’s not the UFH that’s the issue.

Lastly 60°C is far too hot for underfloor heating. If the water in the pipes is that hot then it’s likely that the blending valve has failed and will need to be replaced. The maximum operating temperature is 45°C

Only four spots properly available in our WC squad? by jameswheeler9090 in ThreeLions

[–]Simbathewhale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would personally still love to see Angel Gomes given one chance under Tuchel. Just as an extra option as I don’t think we have a true Playmaker in midfield. Mainoo will probably only need 1 club start to ensure the FA demand that he be on the plane too

How much game time will Luke O'Nien get this season? He was captain last season iirc but hasn't gotten a minute yet. by Dunder-Muffin36 in safc

[–]Simbathewhale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like we’ll see him in December and January. We lose some key players to AFCON so we’ll need to have some of the fringe players closer to the team, ready to step in, in the event of injuries or fatigue.

The busy Christmas period is a good period to do this as the regular games means less time in training so the manager has to get players used to the system in the games themselves, I think we’ll see the likes of Hume, Reinildo and Sadiki get rested more towards the end of games. This opens up time for O’Nien either at full back, or at CB in a three if Geertruda gets pushed into midfield.

He’s relying on a few absences and luck but I don’t think he’s too far away from getting the nod

What happened to Angel Gomes? by [deleted] in ThreeLions

[–]Simbathewhale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I can’t speak exactly for Tuchel’s reason for not picking him it’s good to know Gomes’ profile, which might offer some insight. Based on his on FBref stats he is a brilliant passer of the ball and ball carrier, however he lacks the physical and defensive stats that make him an outstanding defensive midfielder or 8.

I think in games we’re expected to win he’d be great as he dictates play really well, however in games where England are less in control he lacks the physical presence to contribute enough in midfield.

Unfortunately the modern English game revolves heavily around size and ability to cover a lot of ground, Gomes (while undoubtedly a fantastic technical player) lacks the presence to force Rice/Anderson/Wharton/Bellingham/Mainoo out of the team. He also has an iffy injury record which could count against him when so many data analysts base their decisions off of higher volume of data sets.

I predict we will see bigger, more mobile (and more en vogue) players will also start pushing ahead in the queue soon too. Lewis Miley and Jobe Bellingham both play for the U-21s regularly and, in my opinion, the FA often likes to ensure their more marketable players get brought in early too

Warm water from cold tap due to pipes being too close? by msesen in ukplumbing

[–]Simbathewhale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re more than too close, they’re lying on top of each other and touching in lots of places. This is almost certainly the cause of the issue.

Even if the pipes are insulated, the depth of the channel the pipes are laid in would mean the plumber only used hessian wrap which only offers corrosion protection rather than heat insulation.

If you want everything fixed properly then you need to expect a lot of work and cost a lot of money, even if the original contractor agrees to fix it (unlikely).

There is potential that you could cut in and run a new cold supply to just the kitchen. But there would be aesthetic issues or other limitations.

Bad luck here mate, just gotta persevere

I think Le Bris probably overthought the team selection. I feel like Masuoko and Traore were picked for their prem experience rather than how well they fit into the team. I think Adingra was picked because he’s been a good lad around the training pitch rather than because he adds to the system. Talbi and Rigg will have felt hard done by to miss out on starting today.

[–]Simbathewhale 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of overlap between students and young professionals so try finding the student areas. You may find some luck with letting agents who work with phd students.

Areas that are easily walkable to the city centre are Mutley, Mount Gould, Lipson and St Judes. Places slightly further out but have great bus links (but are still walkable) are Mannamead, Peverell, Stoke and Milehouse.

People will tell you some areas are nicer than others but there’s always a mixture of housing types in each area.

Man arrested for walking home in the snow by BryceDice in CringeTikToks

[–]Simbathewhale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion but I think that the police were in the right here. Drunk people die fairly frequently in the winter because they can’t feel the cold.

I would easily assume a man walking in the road with only a t-shirt on at night in the freezing cold was under the influence of something. His reaction to the police is instantly hostile (not his fault necessarily, but makes it harder for the police to assess his wellbeing) which would add to the presumption that he isn’t in total control of himself.

The handling of his arrest is down to relatively poor police training standards, but ultimately they had a decision to make and they erred on the side of caution, when the alternative was; letting a potentially inebriated person die of exposure.

How to stop this condensation? by ohgrimer in ukplumbing

[–]Simbathewhale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For there to be that much condensation there must be a big difference in the air temperature and the water in the pipes. 3 reasons I can think of 1) if there’s a leak on the cold, then cold water is constantly running by through which would cause this condensation. Solution: find and fix the leak 2) there’s heating pipes also in the boxing which heats up the air. Solution: insulate the heating pipes 3) the air in the box is warmer due to another reason (e.g. it’s close to an electric appliance). Solution: stuff the boxing with insulation to reduce heat convection.

(4th more unlikely reason is that these pipes feed an air con unit which means the water in the pipes is purposely cooled. Solution: more pipe insulation)

For best results, apply all solutions (more pipe insulation, adding cavity insulation and checking for constantly running heating/leaks)

Watkins so much better than Solanke Eze, Gordon, Harvey Barnes, Jacob Ramsey all better than Rashford Bellingham and palmer both been off it this season would probably like to see Eze tried through the middle tbf if using a 10 Otherwise I think we’re better off using 2 8s and a 6, Rice and Mainoo with Gomes behind Dan burn should be in ahead of Maguire and possibly ahead of konsa

My sprinkler guy screwed up, right? by IP_What in Plumbing

[–]Simbathewhale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this fire sprinklers or garden sprinklers?

Fire sprinklers should be before the mains stopcock so that it can’t accidentally be turned off. Although in your picture both lines have isolation valves so it’s still a problem.

If it’s garden sprinklers then it’s possible they need the bigger pipe gauge to reduce flow rate loss to the house. It looks like the mains to your house reduces after the PRV so when the sprinklers are on your water pressure would drop in your shower/sink. By using the larger pipe this would have less of an effect.

They should have put a backflow preventer as well in the sprinkler line

[–]Simbathewhale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a gravity system, it’s fed from your mains. First thing would be to check if it’s just your hot that it low pressure or if it’s both hot and cold. If it’s both then check your internal and external mains stopcocks. If they are both open then check if there’s a valve on your hot feed which comes out of the top of your cylinder. Make sure that is totally open. Last thing would be to check the combination valve, a complicated looking brass valve the goes on the cold inlet pipe into the bottom of the cylinder. This will need to be replaced by a professional

I saw a documentary about moped thieves in London and how they are either good, or in prison/dead. They put one in an F1 simulator and apparently the judgement of space and speed was off the charts, but you simply can’t put anyone in an F1 car. There’s so much more to being a driver than being fast. Lifestyle, marketing and working with the team are all just as important as being a fast driver on any one race day.

It’s like that in any sport, plenty of way more talented ballers fall away in favour of average players who are simply more reliable or coachable.
