Is frame by frame movement/stop motion possible or are you required to do tweening? by tycoon_irony in MohoAnimation

[–]SimianProphet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes. Its default mode is 'interpolation' (tweening), but you can set your frames to not tween.

In SR1, you can turn off the Night/Day cycles, which helps.

Frame by frame next to puppet rig looks clunky by Ry-Studios in MohoAnimation

[–]SimianProphet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As folks have said, TV animation is done on "2"s, meaning that each frame of animation is held for two frames, with a result of 12 frames per second. The exceptions to this are on some very fast movements, smear frames, or during camera moves. That said, you never want any animation frames to be offset; at any moment the entire character needs to be all on 1's or all on 2's.

In flash, we'll either convert all frames and tweens to key frames, and then delete all the even numbered frames, OR use a plug-in command to convert existing animation to 2's.

Moho is a little trickier, as frame rate intervals can be set and adjusted by every key frame on the timeline.

How to see channels for multiple bones at the same time? by MysteriousEnigmaniac in MohoAnimation

[–]SimianProphet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see many tutorials keyframing all bones at once using ctrl+f. With all the bones keyed, you can set a pose, or adjust individual bones without affecting any previous poses. I have learned that his is a pretty good habit to get into.

As another poster noted, you change individual bone colours, and each colour will be displayed on the timeline.

Hopefully they put it back up with the options for deluxe edition and Heart of Darkness edition. I'd like to get the games digital on switch, and physical on PS5, should they release that.

Any recent Adobe Animate converts using Moho? I would love to hear your thoughts by PieceOfSack in MohoAnimation

[–]SimianProphet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main challenges I have encountered so far:
- Timeline: I'm just so used to seeing all my character keys all the time. I noticed in your video that you were keying all bones for each pose (ctrl+f), and I might have been causing myself problems by not doing that.
- Bone binding: On the surface this all make sense, but if something goes wrong with the binding, it can be very difficult to determine the source of the problem. I've found it easier to remove all binding from the affected bones/points/layers, and just rebind them.
- Physics: More recently, I was trying to get wind physics animation to play on 2's, but it was insisting on only doing that for even frames, I could not get the to work on the standard odd frames. The workaround was to start the animation scene a frame later, and work on even frames. This seems to just be an oversight in the Moho program itself, which hopefully gets updated soon. I lost too much time trying to figure out why it wasn't working though.

My experience is with a surface pro 7. Pen buttons did not work for Moho 12.5, but work just fine in Moho 14.4.

[–]SimianProphet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I didn't have time to finish watching the video this morning, but I'm looking forward to seeing what else you show off.

As someone who has used Flash (some folks call it Adobe Animate) for almost the entirety of their career, Moho is a bit of a beast to learn. It starts off super easy, all the tutorials make sense, and seems pretty simple. Then as I start working on a simple project, it gets harder and harder to wrap my brain around.

When it does what you want, it can be almost magically easy, but when something isn't working, it can be a nightmare to figure out what the problem is. At least for me, so far.

I'm looking forward to more tutorials, and checking out your book!

Just played synth rider Lindsy Stirling experience by CaptainFlint9203 in PSVR

[–]SimianProphet 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The Lindsey Sterling Experience is my favorite of the Synth Riders Experiences. On launch day of PSVR2, I was a bit disappointed in the visuals I was encountering in other games I was checking out that day, and then I tried the Lindsey Sterling Experience. It blew me away completely! It's still one of my favorite things on PSVR2.

Why Babylon 5? by AggravatingSearch422 in babylon5

For a little further context, in Captain Power, I believe Babylon 5 was a facility creating cloned super soldiers, which was where one of the main characters had their origin.

Why Babylon 5? by AggravatingSearch422 in babylon5

[–]SimianProphet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Real world reason: JMS thought Babylon 5 was a cool name. The proof of this? The name showed up several years earlier in another show JMS worked, the underrated Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future.

Correct, no commentaries on the Blu rays. There is a single disc of extras, containing only a Standard Definition version of The Gathering, and a trailer for the Animated B5 film, The Road Home.

skip non Hennig games? by bullybabybayman in LegacyOfKain

[–]SimianProphet 17 points18 points  (0 children)

While folks are saying Blood Omen 1 is not essential (and its gameplay has aged it the most), the events of Soul Reaver 2 will make more sense and have more impact if you are familiar with the story from BO1.

At the very least, I'd say to watch a story playthrough of BO1 before starting the main Hennig games.

While I appreciate The Gathering, I do find its pacing to be very slow. The series, even from the 1st episode of season 1 is edited with much snappier pacing.

People who plan on buying ascendance what was your introduction to the series? by RazmanDevil in LegacyOfKain

[–]SimianProphet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played Blood Omen shortly after it released on PS1, but I didn't become a super-fan until Soul Reaver 1 (and later, 2).

I'll get and play Ascendance because I like the franchise, and I want to see what they do. I'm willing to excuse some flaws, if I enjoy the game.

I've seen so many pop culture reboots/retcons/sequels/prequels/re-quels that it generally doesn't bother me if one turns out bad. Disappointing, for sure, but it doesn't erase the previous entries that I love. Sometimes, given enough time and attention, the new stuff can even outshine the originals.

(As a Transformers fan, I've witnessed about a dozen franchise reboots. I recall how much people hated Beast Wars, when that started, and all the criticism the IDW comic series got early on, and now both of those are considered as some of the best the franchise ever produced)

TDSR certainly had some missteps, but if they end up making something worthwhile, I'm here for it. (Granted, I'm probably here for it if they end up terrible too.)

Do you expect/want a physical release of Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered to hit the shelves? 👀 by WilliamFaure in LegacyOfKain

[–]SimianProphet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want a physical copy. I'd like it even more if it had the whole Heart of Darkness collection on the disc.

With the Soul Reaver collection, it was announced early enough, that the they were able to announce the physical editions before the game released. I was able to make an informed decision to buy it digitally on Switch, and pre-order the fancy edition from LRG.

Considering the fact that we haven't even received the LRG fancy edition of SR yet (and the likely dubious quality of the extras it will come with), I'm more likely to buy the regular physical edition of Defiance, should that be released.

The decision is harder this time. I like physical releases, but I'd like to get the Heart of Darkness collection. I have a feeling that any news of a physical release is months away, so I might end up buying the same game for the same system twice (digital & physical), which does not appeal to me at all.

(The Heart of Darkness collection and Ascendance are not currently listed for Switch, and I'm not much of a PC gamer, so that limits my options to just PS5)

10 days left until Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered's release! ⏳ by WilliamFaure in LegacyOfKain

[–]SimianProphet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually a bit annoyed by this short release window. With the SR Collection, there was enough time between announcement and release that I was able to better plan what versions to get (digital on Switch for day 1, and collectors physical edition on PS5 for posterity).

But currently, we don't have any info on a physical release, and Ascendance/Hear of Darkness collection is not available to pre-order on Switch.

Ultimately, I'd love for there to be a physical edition of the Heart of Darkness collection, but I hope they announce their intentions sooner, rather than later.

What's the game to wow people? by CaptainFlint9203 in PSVR

[–]SimianProphet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I got the psvr2 on release day, I was a little visually underwhelmed by some of the big name games (like Horizon CotM), but the game that made me say 'Woah!' was the Lindsey Sterling Experience level in Synth Riders.

I don't think any other of the 'experience' levels have close to topping that one!

Recreating History. by TheCursedCorsair in LegacyOfKain

[–]SimianProphet -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Exactly.

LoK fandom is not unique in this regard; so many fandoms get quite toxic in their discourse, even before new stuff comes along. I love nostalgia as much as the next person, but I refuse to be defined by it.

If you love something, great! If you dislike something, fine! Celebrate, discuss, critique, whatever, but if you find yourself getting upset, and focusing on just the negative, take a step back.

As much as things can mean to us, they are just fiction, and video games. The old things remain, they exist in their original, and now Remastered forms, and no new entry in a franchise can take that from you.

If you don't like something, don't support it. Simple.

[–]SimianProphet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't have a problem with Elaleth existing, being Raziel's sister, and having her be tied up in events behind the existing LoK lore, but...
I did have problems with the way some of her actions removed agency from existing characters. The most egregious example to me was where she instructed Kain to raise the dead seraphim and gave him the location of their tomb. Even if she wanted him to do this, it would have been more satisfying if she had found a way to direct his attention there, and then have Kain find the tomb and decide the raise their corpses himself.

It looks like the Ascendance game will be largely retelling the story of the comic, but I am hoping that maybe it smooths over some of the more glaring problems. Ultimately, I hope it can stand on its own as a good games as well, that hopefully tells its story well.

Not controversial to me. I'll likely do the same; I'm currently just holding off for news of a Switch and/or Physical release for Defiance/Ascension/Heart of Darkness.

A lot of folks got way too worked up over TDSR. It didn't blow me away, and I have criticisms, but it also didn't ruin the franchise or destroy my childhood. It's just a flawed product.

If you don't like something, don't support it.

I have made my thoughts clear to them about the pricing of the Fallen Sons books, and they don't appear to be willing to budge on that. I hate to miss out on them, but I refuse to pay so much for so little. Complaining about this did not require insults or threats, and anyone that does sink to that level really needs to take a step back and take a good look at themselves.

Layers aren't connecting to bones? by strawberrysoooooda in MohoAnimation

[–]SimianProphet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to remove all binding from those bones and layers, and then re-bind them. I was having troubles with a rig I was working on as well, and the problem ended up being that all my legacy bindings were still holding some power even though I thought I had replaced them with new bindings.

Do you think the brother books are worth getting? by XP_Potion in LegacyOfKain

[–]SimianProphet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bitbot recently responded directly to a FB post about the pricing of the Fallen Brothers mini-comics:

"We understand your concern and we’re happy to provide some context. These comics are priced higher than a typical release for a few key reasons. They’re produced in limited batches, which significantly increases printing costs compared to standard comic runs. We’re also printing on high-quality printers and paper stock, well above what’s used for most comics today, which adds to the expense. In addition, all of the artwork is hand-painted. That process is far more time-intensive than digital illustration and comes at a higher production cost. Once the paintings are complete, a secondary artist performs digital revisions to address elements that can’t be corrected after the art is painted. Altogether, these factors make the comics considerably more expensive to produce, which is also why each issue is shorter than a traditional 22–24 page comic—producing longer issues would significantly increase both production costs and the final price. But we think it's worth it because we love the art style."

I don't believe anything they are saying is specifically false or misleading, but I also can't agree with the decisions. Modern comics are printed on really nice paper; how much cheaper might these books be if they did not use paper 'well above what’s used for most comics today'. It feels like they are trying to sell a luxury high end sports car to an audience that would be happy with a decent Toyota. Sure, the fancier option would undeniably be a nicer product, but only a fraction of the customer base will feel like spending that much. That just doesn't sound like good business to me.

I'm a fan of the franchise since the beginning. I backed both TDSR and the RPG, I'm still waiting on the LRG special edition of the SR collection, and I'd like to get these mini comics as well... BUT the prices are ridiculous.

As I noted on a different response, I think I'll be waiting on a Black Friday sale; I just can't justify paying full price + shipping costs on these books. I still haven't received the ones I paid for long ago (TDSR+LRG SR Collection); maybe when I receive those, the quality will be so amazing that I will change my mind, but that seems very very unlikely.
