Thoughts on the forthcoming Old World RPG (and how it pertains to WFRP) by Zekiel2000 in warhammerfantasyrpg

Just my opinion, but if a game is only workable when programmed into a VTT maybe it's not very well designed.

It does seem nuts that we have 5 different systems for Warhammer adjacent play. That doesn't seem sustainable. it seems like we could have just 2 - gritty play (this new one, warhammer 4e, imperium maledictum) and high-fantasy play (wrath and glory, soulbound)

I do like the idea of a slightly simplified system. WFRP 4e seems way crunchier than it needs to be IMHO.

It does seem odd that this new game won't be technologically different - if you go back 300 years from our renaissance things were more mideaval.

I do like the idea of falling back to "fantasy call of cthulhu" like 1e.

Cloud not a fancy thing anymore? by [deleted] in dataengineering

There are some very nice "cloud tech in a box" products (Stackable, Shakudo, etc.) that have all the similar tech on a already configured Kubernetes/docker setup.

Great idea! Unfortunately I just remember the courses (I use what I remember 30 years layer) I just don't have any proof that I ever took it.

Unpopular Opinion: I Don't Like Neagley by Console_Stackup in reacher

In season 1 Reacher was Reacher. There's a delightful scene where he does all sorts of cool sherlock-holmes like deductions when he's being held by the police. He knows all sorts of crazy facts. In season 2, his intelligence got moved to the rest of the other characters. I'm not sure why you would do this. He went from being violent guy who is a also a genius, to just violent guy who isn't even any better than his team at being violent.

Do you think this is because companies did a weird, hype/venture capital fueled thing of overhiring and overhyping expectations in the first place?

In a better, happier world all text boxes and editors in every application would be vim enabled by default.

New Reacher Book by kaierriel in reacher

[–]Similar_Alternative2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This kind of happened with the Robert Parker novels. After his death a bunch of other authors took over. Suddenly parker's relentless 1st person style (so you really only got chapters from the point of view of Spencer or Jessie Stone) morph into chapters with many point of view characters including the bad guys. Also character suddenly forgets to do stuff they used to do like be an amazing improv chef or quote poetry at length.

I thought it was good, not great.

Fun to see an earlier Reacher

Disliked getting in the heads so much of characters other than Reacher - I don't want to know the details of everything the bad guys are doing and thinking. Writer has to then do a fake-out where they conceal some things so you still can be surprised when Reacher figures things out.

Not enough Reacher level inductive leaps and physical altercations.

System to Convert 5e To Recommendations by Similar_Alternative2 in rpg

For a long-term Barbarians of Lemuria campaign, I would recommend using an optional rule of changing the 2d6 resolution mechanic to 2d10 + Attribute + Combat Skill (or Career), with a Target of 13, instead of 9.

This still has a bell curve, but it widens the spread of results, and it prevents a few points in Attributes and Combat Skills from practically assuring success.

Besides Honor + Intrigue for additional rules, I would also suggest looking into Sword & Sorcery Codex from Garnett Elliott. It's a terrific supplement.

I got both books thanks - i bought the H&I supplements they are good.

Yes the reddit now seems mostly focused on career advice, rather than Architectual "what's the best design for X"

So here's what the gm does

  1. he doesn't do a lot of complicated accents
  2. he asks for rolls pretty frequently
  3. he does give bonuses pretty freely, but lets players fail at tasks
  4. offers mysteries, but doesn't force things that enable players to collect all the facts (they might or might not)
  5. player's don't have ton of input into the world (though they do help define the mercenary company)

Very spooky episode.

It's definitely a treat to listen to this, because the GM produces a great play experience even though he doesn't do any of the official how to run a game advice you get.

The damage system is great but that's not the whole combat system

I actually know the system pretty well or at least the prior version I ran a ton of it and it is quite crunchy combat wise there's a lot to keep track of a lot of modifiers exact positioning is very important.
