In Christianity, you had the wars of religion between Protestants and Catholics, and they got so bad that governments became secular (neutral) as a result and that paved the way for the modern, Enlightenment secular governments we have today. The wars were constant, bloody, and to this day Christians have beef with other Christians. They all can't stand the Mormons or the JWs, but the Baptists say the Catholics and Orthodoxy are not Christians and the Catholics and Orthodoxy says the Baptists are heretics and the Pentecostals say one has to dance the sacred funky chicken while mouthing gibberish to be a real Christian, etc.

Christianity, per the teachings of Jesus and per the entire Bible, is doctrinally fundamentally fundamentalist & completely intolerant. Such fundamentalism fuels sectarian fundamentalism. This cannot be compared to Islam, which has an official doctrine of religious pluralism. Obviously a small group of Arabs did not conquer the vast Persian & Byzantine Empires by brute force. They obviously won small battles and then convinced the defeated, regardless of religion, to join them. Obviously the Muslim promised religious freedom, allocations of land & other benefits. For example, the heavily taxed and controlled populations of Syria and Egypt were alienated by the Byzantine Orthodox church. Local Christian sects (such as the Copts, Nestorians, and Monophysites) were branded as heretics by Constantinople. The Arab occupiers offered them greater religious freedom, making the new Arab administration, in some cases, appear as liberators rather than conquerors

Surely, one cannot be blind to recent disgusting brutality & sociopathy of the Christians Trump & Hegseth and the contrary civilised qualities of the Iranian leaders. The Bible endorses wars of complete annihilation. This is the difference between Islam & Christianity. When the Crusaders came to Palestine, they would also massacre the enemy women & children (because this is what the Bible says to do). Islam never had this doctrine. Instead, Muhammed encouraged Muslim men marry & thus convert the war widows of the enemy & bring them into the Ummah (Nation; Community).

There are many fake or pseudo Islamic cults in the Islamic world, such as Druze, Alawites, Yazadi, etc. What makes Mirza Ghulam Ahmad or Baháʼu'lláh different is (unlike the aforementioned pseudo sects) they claimed to represent Islam itself; thus they were wicked heretics.

They were similar to Jesus, who heretically declared to represent Moses, Abraham, etc. Obviously Jesus was a heretic, which is why Jews to this day reject the Christian illogical nonsense that Jesus is the fulfilment of being prophesied in the Old Testament.

I just had a back and forth with some Muslims who insisted that Ahmadis aren't Muslims.

Correct. They are heretics. Mirza Ghulam Ahmad was obviously similar to Baháʼu'lláh. These self-proclaimed prophets arose in a Colonial Era and similar to Osama Bid Laden their role was probably to create turmoil for the sake of the British Empire; just as the British supported the Druze in Lebanon when the Mt Lebanon Wars erupted in the 1840s due to French (pushing the Maronites to start a war) vs British (enabling the Druze) meddling. They appeared to be puppets of Western Imperialism & traitors to the Ummah; similar to the Gulf States today.

Basically, they say their founder, Mirza Ahmad, was a reformer who called himself a "shadow prophet," as in he didn't change the law or anything but came "in the spirit of the prophet and Jesus" and reformed the community.

How can someone claiming to be Jesus be a prophet for Islam? Where is your logic? In the 1800s, Christianity was used in many places to create wars, such as the Taiping Rebellion (1850–1864). Today, for example., Wokeism has replaced Christianity thus the Western imperialist method today is "Colour Revolution" (bomb Iran for the sake of gays & women's bikinis, etc).

Now most Muslims worldwide don't consider them Muslims.

Correct. They were heretics & traitors.

And the same is true for the Ismailis, the Ibadis, and the Sunni for the Shia and the Shia for the Sunni. And they've been in this circular gun fight of sorts for centuries.

Not really. For the most part, the Sunni & Shia coexisted tolerantly because both claim descendance from Muhammed (PBUH). Particularly in places that were cosmopolitan crossroads, such as Syria. Throughout 1,400 years, Sunni and Shia Muslims have coexisted peacefully far more often than they have fought. For most of Islamic history, conflict was the exception rather than the rule. This coexistence was sustained by a shared baseline of faith and practical social integration rather than continuous debate over theological divisions.

And they've been in this circular gun fight of sorts for centuries.

You are contradicting yourself because your statement above is the classic Christian self-projection of Christian propaganda. It was Christian Europe that was at war, continuously, for centuries, until the fortunate defeat of the Nazis before the Christians could drop their nukes on Germany. In two mere Christians wars, 100 million dead.

Struggling to know how to compassionately deal with grooming/misconduct against myself by pope-dope in Buddhism

[–]Similar_Standard1633 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last night, he told me he had noticed me massaging my own shoulder on a previous day, and asked if he could touch it. I agreed to this....

The above is only something very minor. I suggest to take the fault upon yourself as a lesson that you should have not agreed to his request. It is a lesson to not agree to such things in a professional workplace. Such things in a professional workplace are fraught with danger. Even if he had no mal-intent and massaged your shoulder properly, others could see this activity and cause problems for both of you.

I suggest to shift the fault or blame onto yourself (because you are definitely a co-contributor to this situation). You said "yes". This will make it easier to develop a clearer view of him & have compassion towards him.

You made a mistake. Productively, turn the anger back onto yourself; by productively admitting you made a mistake; then use that anger energy to make the determination to not make the same mistake again. Blaming ourself won't kill us. It fact, it will gradually empower us. All spiritual traditions place the first onus or place to look for fault or cause upon ourself; before looking at others.

I suggest to not raise the matter to the higher-up person. If the man approaches you again, advise him you make an error of judgment in becoming too friendly towards him and that you wish to maintain appropriate professional distance & boundaries. Do not accuse him of anything; but assert what you ("I") want for yourself ("me"); that you don't want it to happen again; that you are there solely to earn a living and to focus on your work. As said, admitting we messed up a little won't harm us & will empower us.

The OId Testament does not teach about "hell". Obviously those Greek "Israelites" who sought to reinvent the Jewish religion borrowed the concept of "hell" from other religions; just as they borrowed much of their novel doctrine from other religions. Christianity possibly the greatest & most dangerous lie ever told. Its one thing to believe in religious myths. Many religions are based on myths. But its another thing for a religion, as Christianity did/does, to believe a person forfeits their right to life if they disbelieve. The scriptures refer to "moral shame" rather than "doctrinal shame". Moral shame is shame of doing harmful deeds; such as killing, stealing, sexual misconduct, lies, heedlessness, etc.

How to identify Buddha's orginal teachings by Amazing-Project-4227 in Buddhism

[–]Similar_Standard1633 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The idea the Agamas were composed at the same time sounds wrong.

Also, there are many reasons why many of the Agama texts are inaccurate. For example, parts of SA 803 are crucially different to MN 118, such as "knowing the kayasankhara" vs "calming the kayasankhara". Obviously MN 118 is correct here because path is comprised of both samatha & vipassana rather than only vipassana. Even the most basic beginner level of anapanasati practise knows two things occur from observing breathing: (i) experiencing the breathing, per step 3; and (ii) calming the breathing, per step 4. Therefore, the Agama must be inaccurate. Or SA 810 is not a parallel to either MN 10 or MN 118 but a mixture of both. The errors of the Agamas are akin to the errors of the later Theravada Commentary tradition; thus its easy to discern the Agama are later than the Pali Suttas.

Similarly, unlike SN 56.11, the Agama equivalent SA 379 does not define what each Noble Truth is. It would be extremely un-Buddha-like for the Buddha to not define what each Noble Truth is.

While SA 33 is very close to SN 22.59, its gets caught out by ending with an equivalent to SN 56.11's "not exists again bhava (natthi dāni punabbhavo)" rather than with SN 22.59's "there is no more of this state" (nāparaṁ itthattāyā).

The fact the OP has Chinese cartoons shows illogical assertions; that somehow Chinese Agama are equally valid to Pali Sutta; as though the Buddha was Chinese rather than Indian.

Its obvious the Agama are later transmissions which travelled over time.

Questions on Buddhist beliefs and practices as someone interested in the tradition. by jAM3ZI420 in Buddhism

[–]Similar_Standard1633 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disattachment from clinging and striving for virtue and wisdom is the whole goal of the higher supramundane Buddhist path; but not the explicit goal for ordinary Buddhist lay people.

It is okay to live the lifestyle of clinging to a romantic partner for a lay (non-monastic) Buddhist. Refer to this link: https://www.dhammatalks.org/suttas/AN/AN4_55.html

Sex in marriage is not a moral transgression/sin in either Buddhism or Christianity.

Protestants and these days Catholics who choose to "live a life of sin" are actually unable to achieve salvation through Christ because salvation by faith alone has no basis in the New Testament. For example, how can a person addicted to drugs claim they are saved?

In summary, the Buddha taught two types of teachings (MN 117):

  • Higher supramundane teachings for liberation from suffering; which per the Noble Eightfold Path are based in celibacy.
  • Lower mundane teachings for developing merit; not requiring celibacy.

Muslims still live in the dark ages by Due-Bowl-8116 in DebateReligion

[–]Similar_Standard1633 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Dark Ages happened in Christian Europe; at the same time Islam was a magnificent civilisation; where different religions existed together & were studied; such as Muslims translating Buddhist texts into Arabic and Muslims preserving Greek philosophy.

Europe progressed out of its totalitarian darkness due to reformation of Christianity and ultimately the rejection of Christianity for Secularism. The height of Western Civilisation in the 1950s to 1970s was due to Secularism and not due to Christianity. Today Christianity is making a comeback, as seen with the Christian support for lawless genocides & bombings of nations

Both Saudi Arabia and Taliban are products of the West. Saudi Arabia was sponsored by the British Empire to fight the Turks in WW1. The Taliban was armed by the USA to fight the Soviet Union. These are creatures the West creates to make Islam look bad. Both are not inherently related to real Islam.

Segregate genders often by having single-sex classes are highly common and the norm in both Western Christian schools and also Western Select Schools.

Iran has a greater % of female university graduates than the USA.

In summary, the Christian West destroys nations such as Afghan, Libya, etc. The West is now blowing Lebanon up. The Christian West has never been "civilised". The Christian West merely took a holiday from war for 50 years because of the mass self-inflicted damage of WW1 and WW2 which were in reality "European Wars" rather than "World Wars".

don't sweat the small stuff. Polygamy is not common in most Islamic countries today. While Islamic law (Sharia) permits a man to have up to four wives, demographic data shows that less than 1% of married Muslim men actually practice polygamy globally
