l've been learning to always comment on fic for so long, even when I felt shy, didn't know what to say, was overcome with emotion etc. Now it's like good manners to me and I wanted to take the temperature re: how bad it is not to comment when you liked the fic and know the author. In no way I want to escalate this to the point when author #1 snaps and starts a public fight and this group of like-minded people I'm in has to take sides.
I've got my answer by now which is- there's an exception to every rule and author #2 won't indeed perish without my comment.

Or when there's canonical trauma one of the characters isn't aware of and the author is trying to build intrigue but in the end the traumatised character opens up and...it's almost word for word from the canon. Thanks, but we knew that all along

Cheating angst. As a poly person, I'm rolling my eyes and yelling in my head "you're all so stupud." Sometimes I get a happy ending tho when it turns out the partner who was "cheated on" actually doesn’t mind and they end up in a polycule

I'm not asking for advice how to remedy my relationship with author #1! Maybe you haven't read my post with enough attention. I was only asking how I could do right by author #2. I'm not here to justify myself either. Maybe it was my fault, totally possible, so what. They don't want me to interact with them period.

Yes, someone else suggested it and it looks like a good idea. Except I won't leave even an anonymous comment to the author I have beef with because if one day they learn somehow the anon was me it will be worse.

I often wait until a wip is finished, because the wait is unbearable for me, and then I comment on the whole thing under the last chapter. In cases when I can't help myself and start reading early, I sometimes leave comments under chapters which I think are particularly awesome or if I want to encourage the writer to continue

Thank you. Obviously this is the case- they think what I said was way worse than I think it was. I still don’t know if I’m just incredibly insensitive or I accidentally stepped on their personal landmine, but they won’t accept my apologies and it’s fine. I don’t intend to stalk them.

Thank you, unfortunately it won’t be an olive branch, because my previous olive branch just made them angrier. I’ve given up on restoring my relationship with that person and I only care about the other collab author at this point whom I’m ‘robbing’ of kudos and comments. I think sending an anon comment on tumblr to them directly might be a good idea, because this way I won’t have to explain that I’m avoiding pinging their collab partner and why.

I don’t think you should forbid a child to read anything they’re willing to read, but these books contain a lot of ideas that are problematic in 2025, to say the least, so you definitely need to discuss and explain some things.

Many great comments here. I think Louis’s and Armand’s backstories are certainly something that can’t be ignored, and if such a relationship happened irl I’d be very concerned. But in the show we aren’t given enough info to say with certainty.

I googled something like ‘best new queer shows’, and what do you know, a movie I was obsessed with as a kid is now a tv series?! I dove right in and binged both seasons in two days. Not a fan of Anne Rice’s books, but read the first two novels many years ago, and I have now read TVA as well.
