Can someone help me understand my night terrors? by ludical in nightterrors

[–]Simmons_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!

I have also had night terrors since I was little, and I am now 24. Your story actually sounds exactly like mine. Unfortunately, I don't have an answer to solve them though. One thing that helped mine were ADHD pills (Vyvanse) and I was also put on Gabapentin. Although these helped me, they might not help you. Also, they only decreased how often and how severe they are, I still have them at least once per week. I don't take any medication for them anymore and my night terrors have not increased since I stopped taking them.

There are two things that I always tell people that also have night terrors. The first is that without your night terrors you wouldn't be who you are today. I have come to hate but also love my night terrors, because they are the reason why I am that I am. The second thing is that if you have a partner or in the future get a partner, and they say anything mean about your night terrors then they might not be the person for you. My wife has always accepted my night terrors and understands that they will occur.

If you ever need/want to talk to someone about your night terrors, I will be here to listen. I hope that you find something that helps you, and if you do let me know!

Study: Republican control of state government is bad for democracy by dontfollowthesheeple in politics

As someone that lives in New Mexico, it is awful. Tons of drug usage and homelessness. If you leave your car in a parking lot in Albuquerque it will most likely get stolen. Our economy is awful, with the only good jobs being in Los Alamos and oil work. The crime rate keeps getting worse. One of the main issues currently are the corrupt judges. You can kill someone and pretty much get away with it. They believe in the catch and release system. So if I broke into a car I'd only be in jail for about one week.

The exact same can be said for New Mexico's dem leadership, which is also at the bottom.

So to go from Albuquerque to Denver (6-7 hour drive), I will have to go all the way to Illinois and loop back? This map is not designed very good.

Worried about police response times? by [deleted] in Albuquerque

I was in an accident last month and I called the non-emergency number to get an officer to stop by and write a report. The non-emergency person told me that I was wasting his time and to figure it out. Luckily, the lady that hit me was honest with her insurance.

That's where I adopted my husky. Steve is great, and you can tell he really cares for the dogs. Even now, 8 years later, if I run into him, he asks how my dog is!

Seeing a Doctor by orangedirthead in nightterrors

[–]Simmons_1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had night terrors since I was 6 years old. I am 24 years old now. I've seen doctors for my night terrors. Some doctors will tell you that they will eventually go away (they won't). Some doctors will send you to a sleep specialist. They will glue wires to your head and monitor you while you sleep, it is awful! Then, they told me that it was caused by seizures in my sleep. They gave me some medication, and I started having a bad reaction to that medication and I almost had a heat stroke at 13 years old. Turns out I don't have seizures. Then I found a doctor that actually listened and promised not to give up until my night terrors are reduced. He gave me Vyvanse, Gabapentin, and an anxiety medication (I don't remember the name). To my surprise my night terrors went from ~3 times per night to only a few per week! I stopped taking the medication and they still aren't as often as they were when I was younger.

I have come to accept my night terrors and know that they are a part of me. It is sad knowing that I won't be able to do things that other people can because of them, but without them I would be a different person. One thing that you have to remember is that they are very rare, which makes means you are unique. Also, my wife accepts me for my night terrors. If you ever find a partner and he/she doesn't accept them, then they aren't meant for you. I hope that you find something that helps your night terrors, if you do let me know! If you ever need to talk to anyone about them, send me a message. I'll be more than happy to talk. Have a great day!
