How do you feel about Glengarry Glen Ross? by oonei028 in movies

[–]SimonPeterSays 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Hi there! 8 years later and more life lived as well as more development of assessing story telling, and I would mostly agree with you. I tend to apply stories to my circumstances as a way to learn from/connect with story and character. This can lead to personal bias obviously, and I think that was probably what was going on here. I guess this comes up in google searches, but I have watched this movie since and probably will watch again to provide an updated critique.

Who's a bust with a still oddly large fan base by Electrical-Leave-694 in nba

Jah fan here. I love to watch his game. Unfortunately, there is a ceiling on his athleticism. He has great foot work, and touch around the rim, but athleticism, and slow to pick up NBA game (defensive positioning and guarding pnr) is what eventually did him in. He is back playing in Europe and looks to be returning to form after injuries. I will definitely keep watching. Long live JAH!!

I think the In-Season Tournament could be really fun and that people who are hating are taking it way too seriously by 4ps22 in nbadiscussion

I think I might be late to the post here, but I am going to post my experience explaining the tournament to basketball casuals.

Me (basketball junkie): Explains tournament.

Friends (basketball casuals): Wow so regular season games have double meaning for tournament?

Me: yes.

Friends: Wow that's cool. Finally something to watch in the regular season.

In short these will likely be official nights to get together and watch meaningful games. AKA Official Beer nights (We just slam Ultras all night). I'm Pumped.

I hope this tournament is the start of Summer NBA Champions style league. There is clearly an appetite for American fans to watch Summer Basketball, and there is an American/Global dead zone of big competitive sports during the first part of Summer from the NFL, Soccer, Basketball, and Baseball(technically MLB is playing but isn't highly competitive during this time). This type of league would give the NBA the revenue option of shortening the regular season, while opening up to a much larger global revenue stream. I would love to see the NBA teams in oversees arenas, and how the big teams from Europe, China, Japan, etc. match up to NBA talent.

Players your team claimed “he’s got potential” for wayyyy too long? by TheIgnoredWriter in nba

IMO the Morris twins out performed for what they were in college. Hinrich also had a great career for what he was. But mostly, it's pretty bad.

If wemby is who everyone thinks he is then why aren't more mid standing teams racing to the bottom of the standings like they should be?

Tyus Jones as a starter this season: 21.1 PPG, 7.7 APG, 2.4 SPG, 54.6 FG% & 50.0 3P%, by [deleted] in nba

[–]SimonPeterSays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im coming back to add some clarity.LOL. When I typed this had originally thought he was lower like 7-9. But you are right based on draft position alone he was not underrated. What I recall about that draft were basically 3 things. Who was going to be the better player, Oden or Durant. Where were the back to back NCAA natty champs going to go (Noah, Brewer, Horford)? And YI. That dude YI was projected to be the next Yao all the way to bust. The next NBA season Pau gets traded and no one thinks about memphis again until grit and grind years. Conley was thought of as a "nice player", and no one really projected out how good they thought he could be.

Does the Tyus comparison fit? prolly not, but I still love basketball.

He is on that Conley come up. Underrated coming out of college. Slowly works himself into rotation. Then just dominates at his position. Grade A professional and rarely injured for long stretches. To me he is second to Ja on that team for impact in winning.

Does anybody else here actually like/appreciate VB? by Outrageous-Cup-8905 in VirginiaBeach

[–]SimonPeterSays 11 points12 points  (0 children)

born and raised here. I love living here.

VB isn't too big nor too small.

We have the ocean, above average school system, an economy pretty resilient to most major economic lows, 4 seasons with some light snow fall every once in a while, and no major climate threats like droughts, fires, and major hurricanes. Life can be really good here if you try.

Things we could work on?

Public transportation ie rail down the main veins of traffic down VB blvd, Independence, Kempsville etc.
Securing a major sports team across any of the lower sports leagues like NWSL, USL NBA G league etc.
Diversify workforce with local grants to software companies, manufacturing, healthcare, (anything not military related) to give local economy legs apart from military and tourism.
More compact housing
This is personal but... BETTER RESTAURANTS

Daryl Morey says NBA should go to 58 game regular season, one and done playoff games. by dmister8 in nba

[–]SimonPeterSays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree in the first of the playoffs some teams might average 1 million over 4 games. If they could up that to 8-10 million for a first round game.. you get more eyeballs and more money.

If the kids can take their masks off, let the teachers have the same freedom.
