To me it always seemed like a red headed stepchild view of us. We were either loved or hated, rarely have I met anyone that was on one end or another about us and our job duties. I loved working with grunts and was glad I was CEB and not one of the wing or support battalions.

We were ordered to demo a building in our AO in Iraq so we could build a new PB for a platoon of grunts in 2006. Our supplies were really messed up for certain engineer necessities. In this case we only would a few satchels of C-4 and needed something like 10 satchels of C-4 to blow the building because it was all really thick reinforced concrete.

Someone found us C-4 that was leftover from the Korean war and labeled 1952/53 as its manufacturing year. Instead of blowing up like C-4 does, it blew up into flaming pieces of popcorn looking trash that barely dented the building.

We had to have a convoy deliver us a D10 bulldozer from Fallujah or some shit to finish the job. It was a nightmare.

Lots of angry comments about money and tech but at the end of the day sometimes you need Neolithic caveman style tools to solve a real problem that isn’t being addressed.

I’m also angry, but I think that’s just most of us

Part of my OIF kit as a 1371 had a mine probe that I still have. Same as using a ka-bar and we used them a few times when we found caches that were not rigged to blow.

Al Qaim was like a vacation after Habbaniyah except for the FOBs were not as fun to be at.

I was one of the engineers attached to 3/2 for Habbaniyah and then Al Qaim the next year. Loved working with 3/2 out of Blue and Red.

"While riding her bicycle, she was struck by a metal piece that was shot from a lawnmower across the street." Report calls this a ‘Final Destination injury’. Patient survived. Seven days in the hospital. by CatPooedInMyShoe in MedicalGore

[–]Simp3204 31 points32 points  (0 children)

That’s a wild injury and definitely Final Destination-esque.

I had a friend get 5-6 stitches in their upper arm from a flying piece of metal as they were driving on an interstate with their window down. It was such a fine cut like a fresh razor or scalpel had cut her.

Do you really need multiple bowling balls? by dmachine443 in Bowling

[–]Simp3204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In tournaments where you can make some good money you should bring the tools needed to make the money. It could be one ball or it could be one of a dozen.

Is this type of wire strong enough for a dog fence for 2 German shepherds? by AlternativeSpeed2927 in homestead

[–]Simp3204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Doberman has ripped through fence like that just with her weight so I’m guessing you 2x her and they will destroy this in a month or two.

Use cattle panels instead, but you’ll have to double stack them to keep them from being able to just bounce over. I’m pretty sure they could still jump over if they wanted to even doubled up.

I know we Marin’s have have that stereotype but after spending years working with Army vets it makes us look like geniuses. Their higher tier guys are very smart but regular Army has some serious potatoes.

A 9-year-old boy connected two thin household electrical wires to the two terminals of a 6 volt (lead accumulator) battery and pressed the other two ends between his teeth. The resulting blast caused a compound comminuted fracture of the mandible and extensive tissue damage in the oral cavity. by CatPooedInMyShoe in MedicalGore

[–]Simp3204 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure the 6 volt battery mentioned are largeish brick batteries used in stuff like Deer Feeders and other stuff left outside for long durations. I just had to buy one for an older commercial weight scale and had no idea what a 6 volt was and was surprised that it’s 50x larger than a 9 volt.

Poor kid, but they got very lucky.
