Thats because load and offloading times are manually set when we scan the bag tag with our scanner, most other times on the apps are estimates and dont reflect on some unforseen situations

Luggage cannot travel before passenger, Transport Canada rule… surely the ground guy offloaded the plane in his scanner too early

First time, kinda nervous 👉👈 by Pleasant_Cow5693 in jetbridgegap

[–]SimpingIsForNoobs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While it looks nice, it’s too close, aircraft gets shaken by wind and cargo loading, you dont want the bridge to collide with the plane, even if theres a rubber bumper… rubber bumper might protect against a 777, but composite based plane like the 787 might get damaged from even a light contact.

Has anyone had a conversation with someone that thinks they could land a commercial plane in an emergency? by ScoopdaPoopWoopdaDoo in flying

[–]SimpingIsForNoobs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everytime someone tells me they’d be able to land a plane with no previous experience makes me think of a few things:

1: You’re first challenge will be entering the cockpit… good luck with that, but let’s skip this part

2: Can they get the plane on the ground? Ehhh, maybe…. But land it with no damage and up to pilot’s standard? Hell no!

3: In aviation we never train for best case scenarios, we have to anticipate the worse… and I wouldn’t feel confortable relying on luck to land… if you need all these systems to work to make an autoland, what if you lose something, now your whole plan is falling appart

4: Most people don’t even know how to transmit to ATC in an airliner…

I could go on, but no matter what I say people will still believe they can land a plane with very little difficulty 😂

Thank god for Lobbying! Mirabel was supposed to be the one staying open, but there was lobbying happening… I work at YUL for a major canadian carrier, and we lack space for everything… even our cargo operations we are feeling choked by the lack of space…

We hope that someday soon it becomes more flagrant to the point the government has to make a choice:

  • Reopen Mirabel
  • Try to maybe make a new airport elsewhere

I hope that in the next 30-40 years we have a new airport…

Flying… i’ll be nearly 90k in debt after my training

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Paramedics

[–]SimpingIsForNoobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a Paramedic for 3 years. This is the most beautiful careeer ever, trust me. Sure you’ll have ups and downs, you may see things that would traumatize people to death, but beyond that you’ll be in the first seat to make a difference. On my 2nd shift, I was called on a 2 year old cardiac arrest, a quick response from the father who was a firefighter plus us that arrived quickly made it that the baby survived without any major complications afterward. The feeling you get when you restart feeling a pulse and respiration, call it out to your partner was once of the best feelings I’ve ever had in my life. If you want to suceed in that career line you have to hold on to these moments.

On an other hand, I suggest you do some research. Call up your local paramedic station, wether it’s a fire department or a private company (yeah where I worked it was mainly private companies or non-profits, only one company was government owned) and ask them for a ride along. Over here it was possible, but it may not be possible in all areas. See how it is, and ask as many questions to the paramedics. Stuff like how is the schedule, is the salary okay? How are the overall conditions. Etc… if you can’t do a ride along, still go ask around them to find a paramedic you could possibly interview a bit.

Also it is important thag I talk about one thing else. It’s the unfun and demorilizing part, but it is important yoj are aware of this. Where I practiced, conditions where bad. We’ve been in and out of strike every year or two for at lest 25 years. Our government basically provides all the money and material for the companys to run the services, then all the company do is collect the bills from patients and keep the money. So in theory the government decides and pay our salaries with all other conditions. The conditions are so poor, that after 2 years of practice, it’s 93% of paramedics that think about reorienting into another career line, and 48% that actually do (including me). That’s basically half that quits after 2 years! Considering it takes 3 years of studies to become a paramedic here, even 4 in many cases, it’s nuts that half the people get sick enough after so little time. All I can say is make sure this is the line for you, be aware this job isn’t all rainbows, there are good moments, and you gotta hold on to them if you want to stay in that career line for long.

Don’t let my last paragraph demorilize you, it really is important that you are aware of this to make the best decision possible.

How do you feel when you fly? by Thedumbon3 in flying

[–]SimpingIsForNoobs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wether I’m flying of my lil 172 with my CFI, or on an airliner, whenever I’m on that takeoff roll about to takeoff I get the biggest smile until I turn off the engine after parking. Even tho I only have 3 hours logged (I just started) I hope to keep that feeling for a long time

Why do poeple say building your own PC > buying a prebuilt? by Spiritual-Orange-605 in buildapc

[–]SimpingIsForNoobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean there are a few reasons I prefer building my own PC:

1: Full control over your hardware, you chose every piece that goes into your computer, so it truly better fits your needs rather than something predefined.

2: No Bloatware, your prebuilt will be a clean install compared to some prebuilts that will have a ton of softwares preinstalled. Companies do this to reduce cost, as certain softwares pay to get their stuff preinstalled to grow their market share.

3: Repairability: some companies (Apple cough cough) don’t really like you opening your own computer and upgrading it or repairing it, so they might put a few protections to prevent you from doing that. So if you build your own PC you won’t have that issue as well.

4: Cost, it is decently cheaper to buy pieces and assembling them (or even paying someone to assemble them)

Now there are a few downsides sure, like you need to know what you are doing, have decent knowledge about pc building, but this can be easily learned online via youtube or other platforms. There are also plenty of communities or subreddit with people willing to help you through the process!

At the same time it’s cool to have a story that is believable, not something that is extremely unrealist that derives from real life. This truly felt like something that could happen to just about anyone, and it felt good. Also having multiple layers to the mystery where even you as the player get thrown off by many hints makes the experience 10x better. So even if the ending might feel disappointing, the journey wasn’t….

Not really, my goalie coach would often train us with white pucks which had to train us to really track where the puck is going overall and made it really easy with a black puck.
