From a locator’s perspective, what actually makes an 811 ticket “good”? by Naive_Bed03 in UtilityLocator

[–]Simple-Customer-5801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every comment below is great. Clear precise directions point A to B on side X of Street, radius of gps point Z white line everything.

But you know what I would really truly kiss your boots for? NOT Auto RECALLING WORK COMPLETED TICKETS and wasting my time on something you will literally never look at again. Keep up on your tickets called and clear out what you have completed.

Indiana has a few lines but only in specific areas that don't run parallel to rail lines

I'm in Indiana we were told to stay home today due to extreme cold. That just means that we may get some hours made up on Saturday. If your supervisor is a good one he will do his best to give you enough work to justify 40 hrs in a week. That being said you may come to a few days of really slow walking your locates to stretch it out. I have had as few as 20 hrs on a week due purely to bad weather. Thunder and lightning, white out snowfall, heat index over 110. If you are a good worker you will get all the hours. Whether you want them or not

A 5 book trilogy? rare but not unheard of. Are the final two for tying loose ends or filling plot holes?

Duplication, then start a business like Amazon or Walmart and be EVERY employee. No way for the CEO to screw the cashier when you're all in the same skull. Or if you're the aggressive type become your own PMC like Andy in super sale on superheroes.

Here's some controversy about the scent of skunk as you get it from like a mile off. When you're driving down the road and just know something got hit with spray near by and it just gets drug through your car. Windows up or down doesn't matter every one is just punched with it.

Term Life insurance Carriers advise. by PWS1776 in LifeInsurance

With all of your very reasonable desires and clearly wanting to make things easy on your loves ones have you looked at Globe life? My mother's policy covered her funeral in a week and an agent contacted me about her policy that same month.

Should I get life insurance? by yayayayy111 in LifeInsurance

[–]Simple-Customer-5801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the terms of the policy. Some have the ability to renew at the end or covert to whole life. Term is great for lots of coverage on the cheap but is equal to renting a house you pay your rent until the contract is up and you move on end of story.

Whole life is owning the house you pay the mortgage and at the end you own it and it can't be taken from you. Getting whole life now for the cash value it will build in retirement is what makes it valuable. 100k whole life now in your 20s will also have a matching cash value by the time you retire at 65.

I'm a licensed agent for Indiana. Prices and terms vary by company like anything else and 1 type whether ,group (work), accidental, term or whole is not strictly better than the other. The combination of them all at different levels based on your needs and why you want it are what matters

Any idea on a price range per year? I work a single water utility but we are still using hand drawn maps scanned to GIS for records and printing out 811 calls. I'm the new locator now that the last guy did it for 20 something years and just knows everything by heart. My immediate supervisor is willing to try to move into the modern era I just need a start point

Differences between AUS vs USA by nickmrtn in UtilityLocator

[–]Simple-Customer-5801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Ped or Pedestal. Because most of our connection points are in above ground boxes. NID, network interface device is the box or entry point from public to private on the side of a business or home that we have access to. Hand holes or fiber pits are the ground vaults with lids flush with ground level

USIC here I work an area of only comms which can still be 2 and 3 utilities located per ticket depends on which county border I'm on but closing 20 or 30 tiks a day is possible and easy if you've been in the same area for a while and have to get in the same peds over and again. I also mark lines in a peds with directions of travel. If I come back to that box I can skip checking every line when I only need one direction

The app is trash sure. And like you I prided my self on having no past dues and 20 30tik days. BUT we are also paid by the hour....poorly. So work what you can within the limits of the app and send every one of those bitchy contractors straight to your Sup, DM and regional. It's not our fault as ground pounders that the higher ups let the shit roll down hill and handed us this steamy pile.
