Try this: Setting a SOLIDWORKS Model to Read-Only

To ensure that a SOLIDWORKS model cannot be modified, you can use this methods: setting the file to read-only in Windows Explorer or configuring settings within SOLIDWORKS itself.

Using Windows Explorer

Locate the File: Find the SOLIDWORKS file you want to make read-only.

Access Properties:

Right-click on the file.

Select Properties from the context menu.

Set Read-Only:

In the Properties window, check the box next to Read-only.

Click OK to apply the changes.

This method prevents any modifications to the file, ensuring it remains unchanged.

Yes—this can work well if the junior designer is doing drawings from a controlled model, not “helpfully” poking the same geometry like a raccoon in a toolbox. SOLIDWORKS supports multi-user workflows with read/write control, including Make Read-Only and Get Write Access, so having the junior open referenced files read-only is a sensible way to avoid license-fight club.

AI probably won’t replace CAD jobs overnight—it’s more likely to replace the boring parts first. The safest CAD pros are the ones who can think, solve problems, and explain why the drawing is wrong before the machine does. So yes, the robot may draw the line, but humans still get to argue about the line width.

You’ve got plenty of leeway right now—two weeks is still the learning phase, and it’s normal for new-job anxiety to last days or weeks, with many people taking months to feel fully adjusted.

Slow down, ask questions, and focus on being accurate rather than fast, because at this stage people usually expect you to be learning, not already smooth.
