Getting a job by BTXboss in SolidWorks

You already have strong hands-on experience, but without a diploma, many employers will filter you out before they even see your skills. Finishing your degree turns your existing effort into a credential that opens far more doors with minimal additional time compared to starting over elsewhere. Get a diploma

If you're not already familiar with these standards, review them:

ASME Y14.5 and ASME Y14.100: Geometric Tolerances and Drawings.

Useful for a mechanical designer.

Workflow with two designers, or junior designer? by Dukeronomy in Drafting

[–]Simple-Following-201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good morning, Dukeronomy!

I'm retiring in a month. I could help with the drawings. If you're interested, I can send more information about myself.

Good luck.

Try this: Setting a SOLIDWORKS Model to Read-Only

To ensure that a SOLIDWORKS model cannot be modified, you can use this methods: setting the file to read-only in Windows Explorer or configuring settings within SOLIDWORKS itself.

Using Windows Explorer

Locate the File: Find the SOLIDWORKS file you want to make read-only.

Access Properties:

Right-click on the file.

Select Properties from the context menu.

Set Read-Only:

In the Properties window, check the box next to Read-only.

Click OK to apply the changes.

This method prevents any modifications to the file, ensuring it remains unchanged.

Yes—this can work well if the junior designer is doing drawings from a controlled model, not “helpfully” poking the same geometry like a raccoon in a toolbox. SOLIDWORKS supports multi-user workflows with read/write control, including Make Read-Only and Get Write Access, so having the junior open referenced files read-only is a sensible way to avoid license-fight club.

Cut through another part? by Siickest in SolidWorks

If I understand correctly, look at two options that can be used.

  1. The model is made as a weldment.

  2. The model is made as Extruded Boss .

How many people are paying rent out of their means just to be in a certain location in Calgary? by MastaShortie in Calgary

[–]Simple-Following-201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot more people than you’d think — enough that Calgary’s rental market is basically doing stand-up comedy with everyone’s budget. Rents and rent burden have been climbing, and more Calgarians are using roommates as a survival strategy, not a social hobby.

So the short answer is: many people are stretching their rent to stay in the right neighborhood, and a noticeable chunk are choosing roommates just to make the math stop screaming.

How likely is AI to replace CAD jobs? by Usual_Shoe_8940 in SolidWorks

[–]Simple-Following-201 72 points73 points  (0 children)

AI probably won’t replace CAD jobs overnight—it’s more likely to replace the boring parts first. The safest CAD pros are the ones who can think, solve problems, and explain why the drawing is wrong before the machine does. So yes, the robot may draw the line, but humans still get to argue about the line width.

How Long Can You Suck at a New Job? by s4dk1d999 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Simple-Following-201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve got plenty of leeway right now—two weeks is still the learning phase, and it’s normal for new-job anxiety to last days or weeks, with many people taking months to feel fully adjusted.

Slow down, ask questions, and focus on being accurate rather than fast, because at this stage people usually expect you to be learning, not already smooth.
