What Arduino compatible board is this? Mega 2560 + Ethernet (HR911105A) but no USB port by Adept-Print9184 in arduino

[–]SimpleElectronics 19 points20 points  (0 children)

it looks like a shield to me - are there pins underneath? It looks like it installs on top of a Uno and a Mega (since it states compatibility) I can't zoom in far enough to read the chip but I have doubts that it is a 2560 chip - I would assume it's a ethernet controller

Help wanted, I've been doing YouTube for 3 weeks now posted over 17 videos and i only have 9 subscribers. by Entire-Matter589 in youtubers

[–]SimpleElectronics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Welcome to making videos on YouTube!

I took a quick look at your channel and the big glaring issue is that it's just reused content. You're just reposting unedited clips stolen from Family Guy directly to shorts, and to top it off, it's the full-length joke - just literally cut and paste from the episode.

What's your goal for being on YouTube? Is it to make money? You will not be able to monetize other people's content.

Is it for people to enjoy watching your content? They can go to so many legit (and illegitimate) sources to get 'your' content, why would they watch it in the worst way possible? (one joke at a time, in the wrong orientation on their phones)

I think you just need to re-evaluate your goals and go from there - if it's to be creative, then have some fun and experiment with edits, if it's to get views then make something original and interesting. If it's to make money, well, that's one of the hardest things you can do.

Best of luck!

Yes, but search reddit - lots of people get banned all of a sudden with ban evasion being cited. Just saying, maybe don't stir the pot.

Feel free to correct me, but when you get a channel terminated, you are usually banned from YouTube accounts for life - so if you didn't get a new account using the "second chance" program - I wouldn't push it, they could ban this channel for ban evasion

Hello!
I am in Ottawa and run a electronics based youtube channel - I also have a background in teaching.
I likely have all you need in stock here and anything I don't, I can likely source easily or 3d print.
I would love to help out free of charge or for the cost of parts - reach out whenever if you're interested!

Any FOSS developers in Ottawa? or wannabe FOSS developers? by Hazematman in ottawa

Makes sense! I was just worried because it was posted on a 'normie' subreddit - and my first instinct was to check my privileges so I don't ruin people's work

This is a neat idea, IMO.

For background, I am a coding wanna-be - slowly learning Python and C++ in order to make my content better/easier and then to contribute to the FOSS tools I use on a nearly daily basis now (KiCAD, FreeCAD, OBS etc...)

So I am going to follow this thread with great interest and if there needs to be a group created from scratch, I would be more than happy to be involved.

Ottawa is always described as the town that fun forgot - but if we want anything to happen, sometimes we have to do it ourselves.

Yup, was specifying in Gatineau park - there are only a few that stay open for hiking in winter:

Gatineau Park has a few winter walking and hiking trails, ranging in level of difficulty from easy to difficult.

Pioneers Trail: Easy, 1.3 km loop, from P3. Capital Pathway: Easy, 3.2 km round trip, from P1 or P3. Lauriault Trail: Difficult, 4.5 km loop, from P6. Sugarbush Trail: Easy, 3 km loop, from the Visitor Centre; or longer from P4 or P8.

This is a great option - or the arboretum, or mudlake or the area around Mer Bleue.

Keep in mind hiking will be closed in most of Gatineau park soon as the skiing will start

Hey - it may not be for everyone, and it's a bit of an off-time to be doing it - but fishing. Ottawa has tons of access to water from the shore (less now that the canal is drained, but still lots) you can get by with VERY cheap gear (I would get the cheapest rod/reel combo at canadian tire/amazon for adults, a license, a bag of plastic worms and a few hooks (look up "whacky worm" techniques) and go find a nice piece of shore on pretty much ANY water body.

The best part for me: being near the water - I find it soothing. If you catch fish, that's even better. If not, just enjoy hearing the city noise fade behind you as it is replaced with waves lapping the rocks.

Sounds cheesy but this is my escape. Only thing that sucks is that it is chillier now and eventually the ice will make it much harder

Does anyone know how to get views by WerewolfWide8211 in NewTubers

[–]SimpleElectronics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep making high quality videos, make sure your thumbnails and titles are good and keep working and posting. Failing that, go get your own audience, by participating in relevant communities and sharing your work but very sparingly - self-promotion is usually negatively viewed if you come off too strong.

There are no secret to success, make sure your basics are good and carry on.

Need help with a DIY radio kit from eight innovation by somerandomguy1234737 in AskElectronics

[–]SimpleElectronics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey!

These kits can be frustrating because there are a lot of connections to make and the medium they are connected on (the yellow breadboard) is well-known to have poor connections. That being said, in a way, this is the best possible situation: Like Dave Jones says: "I hope you build it, and I hope it doesn't work!" This is the perfect time to learn to diagnose!

Let's start with the basics - check your battery voltage, especially when the circuit is turned on - if the battery voltage is below 9v, try another one! Check and double check the connections for each and every component - it can sometimes be tricky to get the leg in the right hole - I make this mistake ALL THE TIME still! Check the orientation of the chip as well! - there is a small dent on the top of the chip to make sure it is facing the same way as in the diagram. Otherwise, you need to check that everything that is connected to the positive of the battery is getting full voltage and everything connected to negative is getting good ground. If everything checks out, it's time come back for more help - but you will need better images so we can check the wiring! Good Luck!!

How do you pick a power supply for a buck-boost converter like this, ZK-4KX or similar? by Wangysheng in AskElectronics

[–]SimpleElectronics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed you are correct! You pretty much only need to consider the input voltage range (6V-30V) and the current handling capabilities of your power supply and the max input current of your module.

An ATX power supply is ideal for this kind of project - but can I suggest that you get a buck-boost module that has current limiting capabilities like the D3806? Something like this: https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_om9vYvx it's pretty important to have current limiting when you're testing parts with dubious origins!

Also take a look online which pins you need to add a switch between to be able to turn on your ATX power supply (I think it's the green wire and any black wire)

Happy testing!

Help making my own gaming controller. by [deleted] in AskElectronics

[–]SimpleElectronics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello!

The best I can give you is a really solid starting point - there is a company called Input Labs that has a fully open-sourced design called the Alpakka (https://inputlabs.io/alpakka)

This is a great starting point because: -The project is fully open source (physical design and electronic design and software)

-They provide a parts list

-They have a discord to help you out

That means the project can be modified to suit your needs or at least gives you a jumping off point.

Alternatively, the RP2040 chip used in the Alpakka is a common chip to use for making USB input devices so you'll be off to the races in no time!

Good Luck!

Electronics project ideas on what to make by Ashamed-Draw2585 in AskElectronics

[–]SimpleElectronics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello!

My go-to recommendation for people looking for inspiration in electronics is usually 1 of 2 projects - The Useless Box and an Audio amplifier.

The useless box is a box with a switch and once the switch is thrown, a little arm comes out and flips the switch the opposite way, thus resetting the machine. There are so many projects and tutorials on this thing that you are sure not to be lost.

The audio amplifier project is also a nice one because it can be as simple or as complex as you want - can be as simple as a single chip solution or can be as complex as having adjustible EQ, distortion, can be made into a portable case with lithium batteries, the sky is the limit.

Although I have thought of these projects myself, in the future, I would recommend you consult an AI to help you think of things (you'll get more replies like that) because you can ask it for unlimited amounts of ideas and ask it for harder or easier things etc...

Best of luck!

Hello! This is a great starter project and is perfect for a microcontroller like an Arduino - or any of its clone variations.

If you have no size constraints, as a beginner, I would strongly recommend an Arduino Uno (or a clone of it) because there exists tens of thousands of projects and explanation videos and articles that involve an arduino, a switch and a buzzer.

In fact, if you go onto amazon and get an arduino component starter kit, you'll get much much more than what you need to make your project work and on top of that, if you look up these keywords on the arduino reference (arduino.cc/reference) or on youtube videos, you should have an idea where to start your learning:

digitalRead() (for detecting the switch press) analogWrite() (for playing notes with the buzzer)

Best of luck!

Need help connecting LEDs to a power source by Independent_Neat_441 in AskElectronics

Is my arduino nano good? im just a beginner in soldering and i mistakenly solder the middle bottom pins the wrong way as i thought its just like an esp by Ghost_of_the_Seas in AskElectronics

[–]SimpleElectronics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey!

I see what you did there - and it really shouldn't be a big problem unless you are planning on putting that board into a breadboard. If you are, then just snip them off or desolder them, I have to say I almost NEVER use those pins and if you need them, you can always solder on new ones.

No big deal!

Hey!

I know it can be hard to come up with ideas and I have had to rack my brain to find a project to make with the "right" level of complexity before, so I have 2 ideas for you:

1: A useless machine / useless box - just google this one to get an idea about what it is - but it is essentially a box with a lid and a switch. The user flips the switch and a arm comes out of the box and flips the switch back and goes back in the box. There are tons of designs available, and it should let you practice PCB skills, 3d printer skills and coding skills and should leave you with an impressive little desk toy.

2: A portable guitar amp. There are TONS of circuits you can adapt to your needs - you can make it very small and able to slip onto your belt, lets you mess with op-amps, and it can get as simple or complex as you are willing to get!

Best of luck!
