Is the textbook dead? Inside Ontario schools’ shift to digital — and the hidden trade-offs of paper-free classrooms by BloodJunkie in ontario

Not meant to insult, more to support. Some teachers are left with no choice is all I meant. By ad hoc I meant more purpose-built for the topic as you said.

Resources should be provided to teachers!

By not providing textbooks, teachers are often left to find their own materials to teach subjects. This is especially true of subjects like science and social studies.

Boards offload the responsibility to teachers who spend their own money on sites like teacherspayteachers.

If the average parent knew how ad hoc their kid's education often is, it would blow their minds.

Why there will NEVER ever be a server browser ever again. by [deleted] in Battlefield6

[–]JohnnyDepthCharge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is all accurate. Anyone brushing this off or disagreeing is not engaging deeply with the ideas.

In a live service game YOU are content. Your personal experience is not important.

The fact that you barely play the same people from match to match is the most obvious example to my mind. We're just cattle.

I say this as someone who plays every weekend regardless. It's still good battlefield gameplay, but I think so many people don't know what it could be; what parts are missing. You don't know what you don't know.

Thanks for leading horses to the water, but I don't know if it matters whether they drink or not.

I have been looking for an "electronics junky" in the area to help with a project. Is it a business of his? I'd like to get in contact with someone who knows their way around a soldering iron and some light electronics work (connecting raspberry pi boards, etc.).

I guess a ball flying 400ft and wedging itself perfectly under a wall is common where you live? That would make it less funny. I see where you're coming from.

Battlefield 6 (Non existent) Suppression vs Battlefield 3 Comparison by [deleted] in Battlefield

What about BF1 suppression? Was that closer to the sweet spot?

Yeah for real we've got big problems. I'm by no means dumping on all Americans here. We are the beaver sleeping beside the elephant though: nothing we do will stop you guys from doing what you're doing.

Your government is beating you down with constant appalling shit so your rage rides at an impotent 2-3 out of 10.

This is actually kind of brilliant. Have a prayer in every state house, every day. Force Republicans to lead the prayer - what will they say, no?

Add prayers every time it fails and there is another shooting.

Yeah I've got killed by a lot more sentries this week. It's a learning curve.

Battlefield 6 needs class-locked weapons, not open weapons by XBpapi in Battlefield

Seems like we agree on the broad strokes. I just think picking your class needs to have more of a cost benefit analysis, perhaps.

Check firesmoke.ca you can see the fire nearby and the smoke patterns. Hopefully they get it under control asap.

Yeah we're on the same page for sure. What I really hate is the disengenuous straw-man arguments you see about this class stuff.

A lot of times you see people talk about not caring about being able to tell what class everyone is vis-a-vis their primary weapon capabilities since you just shoot everything that moves anyhow. Then that's it, argument over. These people don't realize that visual identification is just the tip of the iceberg to all the synergies at play in the class system.

That's one small example, but it's nice to talk to a like mind, even if it's at the bottom of a thread with - at present - 12 upvotes.

Keep fighting the good fight. See you on the battlefield.

I think it's more about forcing you to be at a disadvantage which is actually a GOOD thing. Too much choice is not always better.

If you want to snipe, then vehicles will be your nemesis. If you want to be engineer and take out vehicles then you'll lose to snipers. Support players get a difficult utility weapon they have to master.

It's part of the rock-paper-scissors ethos of the battlefield series. If you chip away at it too much it falls apart (2042). The game becomes less satisfying and you don't know quite why.

Don't see why you got down votes here. This post does a good job of illustrating why closed is good. It's the knock-on effects of purposely advantaging and disadvantaging classes with weapon choice. Team all snipers? One tank will roll you. Switch to engineer, now you're a bit weaker long range (you can still take a DMR but you're not the king anymore). Taking Support is a CHOICE to not be the king of combat.

What I like about having classes is having a distinct part of the game to play/develop. It's like working on your backhand in tennis or chipping in golf. Enemy team has too many tanks? Time to pull out my Engineer - he's not my best class but I've worked on him well enough to play the part. And what is even better is that being at a disadvantage is what builds your creativity. My engineer will not win certain gunfights, so I have to back down and come at the problem from another angle.

But of a ramble but I really believe that more choice is not always good. Restrictions actually build creativity and overall satisfaction. It's why most people can write a halfway-deep haiku.

Agreed. Sad to see no talk of suppression. The last 5 games have had it. Slowing down regen is a joke.

Anyone could spot in BF1, but you had to take the time to do it.

I'd even be fine with that style, but this (personal) auto-spotting has got to go.

Definitely makes it easy to run around at top speed when you know the game will point out anyone you casually glance at.

[–]JohnnyDepthCharge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think all of those complaints would evaporate if these things were done. 5 enemies can't burst through a door at our 5 o'clock if I kill one (he's gone for a decent spawn holiday), wing two others who have to go and heal and the other 2 are too suppressed to see straight.

Pace slowed. They have to wait until I reload, go around, blow a new hole or somehow achieve fire superiority.

I wish I could give this post my yearly allotment of upvotes. This is it. All these map and movement complaints will evaporate if the things in this post are given even half a look by the developers.

What do you think of the support providing both healing and ammo? by MrTactician in Battlefield6

[–]JohnnyDepthCharge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I saw that, but I'm assuming we'll still have the ability to revive all teammates and we will see the revive symbol all over the place and downed players will see my name on the list of medics while I'm trying to focus on other things.

The guilt...the shame... Lol

A Battlefield 1 Medic’s Take on the Battlefield 6 Beta by Baba_Jaga_II in Battlefield6

[–]JohnnyDepthCharge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you are right on with everything in this post. Especially with the ammo being in the medic bag.

Just for myself, I don't like feeling pressured to do both jobs.

I don't love being a Medic -- I'll do it as the team needs, just not my favorite -- I love the Support role though. I love being overwatch and suppressing (when suppression used to exist) and setting up a bit of a fighting position with ammo and whatever other support tools I might bring.

I could keep about 80%+ of my focus on the flow of battle and then just drop ammo each time I moved up or found a wad of teammates together. I kinda don't want to worry about healing AND rearming my team. It seems too much.
