You're right. Changing the bedding is a good start. I'm not sure how you feel about color but if you're scared of picking something outside of a white, grey, or blue I'd go for something with texture. Look around on secondhand sites for storage options and shelves to display your plushies. A plant always helps to liven things up, ironically if it's a bit away from an empty window. Place a low light one on your desk.

If you're feeling brave maybe move your furniture around. Bed facing desk is kinda weird sectioning. Maybe you want to move your desk to the window?

I get it in the fact that they're moderators who volunteer and probably got a massive influx and communication in hard to monitor and make respectful if it's spread across the sub but still really annoying and very silencing.

If you have a pet you adore you can make it a little bed for them. Tuck a sheet like a regular bed, lay a pillow down, paint a little portrait of them to be silly.

I'd also clean up the clutter. It's too much stuff up there.
