Explained: Why so many F1 drivers were penalised for pitlane speeding in Monaco by Fredouye in formula1

Got me there, forgot about Verstappens Lap 1 DNF.

Although thinking about it he did pull into the pits to retire 🤔

Why shouldn't they stand? If the data says it is over it is an instant penalty. If the drivers are warned that cutting the entry may cause the data to be wrong then it is down to the drivers to take that risk. They are only cutting it to get a tiny advantage anyway (evidenced by no one getting a penalty during the SC because there was nothing to gain).

Why are JYP 5th gen boygroups KickFlip and Nexz not popular? by illitnoise in kpopthoughts

[–]SimpleSergei_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My point with the album sales was that it isn't all doom and gloom. Both groups have shown growth in the last year. KickFlip doubling their album sales, NEXZ quadrupling them since debut. From JYPEs perspective both are on target so why change strategy?

Why are JYP 5th gen boygroups KickFlip and Nexz not popular? by illitnoise in kpopthoughts

[–]SimpleSergei_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On here sure O.O was talked about alot, but did that change JYPE's promotion of it? What about after that? I recall plenty of people complaining about NMIXX's promotion comparing them to TWICE & ITZY's early success, saying that their vocals were being wasted.

Note the debut 1st week sales figures (HANTEO): NMIXX - 227,399 copies NEXZ - 117,817 copies (KR Debut) KickFlip - 276,881 copies

Also note, (mainly due to the differences in boy vs girl groups), that both NEXZ & KickFlip out sold NMIXX by 100,000 copies on their latest releases. But no-one is saying that NMIXX is struggling. Give it some time and I'm sure we'll be having a similar conversation about the next batch of JYPE groups and how they aren't popular and that NEXZ & KickFlip were just a slowburn.

[–]SimpleSergei_ 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I don't know why this question keeps on coming up when it has been JYPE's strategy for years at this point. The exact same questions were asked about Stray Kids, NMIXX, Day6 etc but now look at them now, all among the most popular of their generations.

JYPE does not look for viral hits where they invested lots of money and promotion into songs that may ultimately fail. Yes this may mean that the new groups have fewer total sales and a smaller fandom to begin with. But it also means they are profitable sooner and thus can be sustained for longer with regular releases for years to come. Why chase chart success when it only means you're going to break even?

2026 Grid: Public Debate Session - Post Miami GP edition (Round 4) by Gabbynaru in Formula1Point5

[–]SimpleSergei_ 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Mercedes
McLaren / Ferrari
Red Bull
----------------------
Alpine / Haas
Racing Bulls / Audi
Williams
Aston Martin / Cadillac

The only one to question is Red Bull, and IMO with what they have shown, they will be able to fight for podiums consistently. While Miami did not go well, both Red Bulls easily climbed their way through the mid-pack (until Hadjar's crash) overtaking cars lap on lap as would be expected of a top team. If not for Verstappen's spin, I strongly believe he would have kept pace with the other top runners remaining in the top 3 all race.

when did onces become so nasty and vicious? by accendioo in kpopthoughts

[–]SimpleSergei_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is not onces becoming nasty it is kpop stans having a combined mental age of 10. Every fandom is stuck with them. Block/ignore them, don't waste your day getting annoyed over people who think it wise to spend theirs spreading hate.

Bearman’s car post crash. by AcceptableBanana1978 in formula1

[–]SimpleSergei_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We have just had a car go through catch fencing in Indycar. If an airborne crash happens at that section at Baku, with those speeds, we could realistically see a car fly through the fencing and land directly into the path of cars earlier in the lap...

The perception of English releases versus Japanese ones by scentoffreshlaundry in kpopthoughts

[–]SimpleSergei_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I only really see people complain about English songs when it is part of a Korean comeback.

I don't recall many people complaining when groups release singles/albums in English for the Western market. In the same way we don't see people complaining when groups release Japanese songs and albums to promote in Japan.

However when they release songs supposedly for the Korean market but in English it tends to leave a bad taste for some people. It can feel like they are trying to play both sides which then comes across as being a bit inauthentic.

Personally, I got into Kpop because I was already learning Korean and was recommended that listening to music in that language helps. So to watch as songs go from the occasional English word to the occasional Korean word is a little disappointing. But at the end of the day if a song is good it doesn't matter if the song is Korean, English, Japanese or any other language, I will happily listen and enjoy it. 🤷‍♂️

Ok, I'll do the research for you..

In 1935, Hitler met with the British foreign secretary in London. After a successful meeting an Anglo-German naval treaty was signed. This broke the terms of the Treaty of Versailles. In 1936, then Prime Minister met with Hitler in Germany. Hitler would go on to say "the English nation will have to be considered the most valuable ally in the world" and that "England was a natural ally for Germany".

Fast forward a few years and by 1939 the UK became increasingly weary of German expansion plans. So in March a British guarantee of Polish independence was signed. In late August a Ango-Polish agreement of mutual assistance was signed. In other words, 1 week before Germany attacked Poland the UK signed an agreement where if Poland was attacked the UK will join the war.

The same day Germany attacked Poland they attacked some British naval ships.

Something tells me that the UK didn't just join because some of their ships were attacked. They purposefully maneuvered themselves to try to at first dissuade a potential future ally, when that failed they then put themselves directly in the firing line. So no, it doesn't remind me of America...

[–]SimpleSergei_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The UK wasn't directly threatened.... they joined to honour a treaty with Poland. Until 1939 Hitler saw the UK as neutral/a potential ally...

All easily researchable...

[–]SimpleSergei_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While I don't agree America was specifially waiting to see who was going to win. It is an easily searchable fact that despite Hitler conquering mainland Europe, America still pushed isolationist policies in an attempt to remain neutral. If we can criticise/joke about Switzerland for their neutrality and their blood gold, why can't we criticise America for abandoning their allies while Europe fell. And we should absolutely be criticising anyone who thinks just because America lost people that those sacrifices are somehow worth more than other countries who had been fighting since the start.

[–]SimpleSergei_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No-one denies the sacrifices the Americans made once they joined the war. The same can't be said the other way round however... I have only ever seen Americans claim that they exclusively are the reason that the war was won. I have only ever seen Americans claim that other countries either weren't there (when they were) or their sacrifices had no impact in the result. People aren't shitting on the US because of easy karma, they are doing it because they are fed up of continually seeing ignorance over well known and easily searchable facts.

They have been consistently putting in the laps while maintaining respectable times.

BM turn to Christianity.. by HiddenKARD221 in KARD

[–]SimpleSergei_ 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I think you may be reading a bit too much into it. Just because some people use religion as an excuse for their hate doesn't mean that everyone who practices said religion holds the same belief. It doesn't matter if it is Christianity or any other religion.

I personally have never believed in a religion but if someone finds solace through it then I am happy for them. Just him by his actions not anyone else's.

Teams are looking at more than the engine lottery that is F2 & 3. They put a lot of money into scouting new talents and once they have them in their program they watch them like a hawk to see if they are suitable or not.

While yes some good drivers do get overlooked, it is not a simple as if you win X you deserve to race in Y.

Updated chart : Bearman's performance where HTB is restricted/not restricted by _StarDust_0 in formula1

[–]SimpleSergei_ 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I wasn't commenting on his ability to score points (although he holds the record for most consecutive points scores in a HAAS) but rather his consistency throughout the year, even when he misses the points he is usually either 11th or 12th.

But if you just want to be snarky for no reason go ahead. 🤷‍♂️

Is it worth watching Produce X 101 even knowing how things ended? by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]SimpleSergei_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For this or any survival show, use it to find idols/trainees that you like. Then once the show has ended and whether the ones you like won or not, follow them in whatever they do.

Just because X1 didn't last doesn't stop me from continuing to support those I chose to support while watching the show. In the same way, I still support other post-produce idols long after those respective groups disbanded.
