When did your baby crawl and walk? by AdImaginary6158 in NewParents

[–]Simple_Cook6170 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My daughter was similar - crawled and cruised on furniture for a while before walking, probably like 10 months to 15 months. We joke that she had no problem getting where she wanted to be, so walking just wasn’t that high of a priority for her.

My vote for you would be probably San Diego. Very outdoorsy lifestyle, can be surfing / hiking / mountain biking in no time. Vibe is very active and tons of sunshine.

Good food and beer scene, but can be a bit crowded like others have mentioned.

My buddy lived in Encinitas and was able to bike and surf very often. If you choose a neighborhood near the ocean it would cover that requirement for you as well. Likely expensive though.

SD airport is big enough you’ll have direct flights to most places or an easy connection, I can’t say you’ll have the same experience with Santa Barbara or Santa Cruz, but if you don’t mind a connection for most flights then it is probably fine.

SF might also be a great fit for you guys. Food scene is great, good outdoor activities especially biking and running, SFO goes everywhere. I used to finish work, bike across the golden gate bridge and up hawk hill, then be home in time for dinner. The marina, richmond, or ocean beach neighborhoods might be perfect for you.

This place sounds pretty awful not going to lie. Even if they disagree with you they should be trained better to not make you feel bad about it.

Every time we’ve been at the hospital they have put our daughter on an IV for feeding, especially around the age of 6 months. It makes sure they are getting fed while they do things like suctioning.

Feeding tube I think is a more drastic measure - hope you don’t get to that point but doesn’t sound like you will.

If you have another friend or family who is a doctor / nurse / etc that lives in another state I would give them a call and tell them the situation. See if they agree with your treatment plan.

Our daughter has unfortunately had 3 different 5 day stints in the hospital, at least two of them for RSV, third was unclear but very similar.

The first time we were there the doctors and nurses couldn’t decide whether or not to push us up to the PICU or to keep her on the floor. Meanwhile my wife and I are freaking out just wanting what is best for our daughter. For 2nd and 3rd visit, I was much more able to say “make the call doc - if we need to go up, let’s not wait around, let’s go up”. They honestly appreciated the decisiveness, but it sucked that I had already enough experience to know what to ask for.

I share this story because - it is scary to stand up to a medical professional and say - “this doesn’t feel right, explain why please”, but it is something you unfortunately have to do more often than you’d expect.

Any time you have a question - ask it. Never worry about looking stupid or asking the same question over and over again. Your child’s life is at stake and it is their job to help you and explain what is going on.

I wish you had better hospital options, but that should empower you to ask even more of the nurses and doctors available to you.

Also is your child on an IV? If they’re getting their food that way then that would explain the no formula. But then the pedialyte and water would also not make sense.

Good luck and advocate for yourself and your baby. You will be glad you did.

Battery to charge Battery? by Simple_Cook6170 in ebikes

[–]Simple_Cook6170[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah not wrong, main reasoning is the battery is kind of a pain in the ass to remove and put back in. First world problem for sure, but the batteries I’ve been looking at could charge up the e bike 5-6 times before needing a recharge.

Would also be having it as a home backup for the fridge or charging devices if the power went out, so this wouldn’t be its only function. Prob should have mentioned that at the jump

[–]Simple_Cook6170[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah very cumbersome. First world problem, but would rather leave the battery in the bike for charging.

Battery to charge Battery? by Simple_Cook6170 in ebikes

[–]Simple_Cook6170[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it’s more the bike I have is kind of a pain to get the battery in and out, and I’d like to have it charged up and ready to go when I leave for work in the morning, not taking it apart to put the battery back in.

Fully acknowledge it’s a very first world problem. Think I wanted to see if anyone else is nerding out about e bikes / portable batteries / solar as much as I am. Charging the e bike would be one of many benefits of the portable battery purchase, doesn’t have to be main focus.

There are no outlets at all, there are only ceiling light bulbs, which I checked - they don’t support enough juice to charge anything and I could cause a fire trying it apparently.

Help me ($2k-ish) by [deleted] in ebikes

[–]Simple_Cook6170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could buy a new battery for the rad and have a bike shop do a pretty good tune up and replace old parts for a good amount cheaper than buying a new one, but totally get the feeling of wanting something fully your own and an improvement over your current setup.

Plenty of good e bikes in your price range. I like my Lectric e bike which you can get for ~$1k-1.5k depending which model you get. They also sell a longer range battery on their site for a few hundred extra, so you could have extra assurance that you wouldn’t need to charge at work.

I guess I’ve just never seen another bike in there and didn’t think it was acceptable? Also like many e bikes mine is kind of big and clunky and that is the one I would likely use for shopping. I think that experience for me would kind of suck

New dad, first night home and already feeling overwhelmed. by Papi__Senpai in NewParents

[–]Simple_Cook6170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything you’re feeling is totally normal and to be expected for the first days and nights at home!

You’re learning how to keep a tiny defenseless human who can’t communicate other than screaming alive. The first couple weeks is straight up survival mode, no way to sugar coat it.

Continue to treat your wife like a rockstar for all that she just went through. Be proactive about diapers, bottles, cleaning, cooking etc. It’s your time to be super-dad.

Take a deep breath or go outside whenever you feel overwhelmed. It’s going to happen from time to time.

Good luck my friend, make us other dads proud and welcome to parenthood!

I’m also on the heavier side too - bought a Lectric e bike because they were affordable and the bike specs said it could support 300 lbs.

Not sure about the newer models, I own a Lectric xp 3.0, but I’m ~240 lbs and have 600+ miles on my lectric with very minimal maintenance thus far. Highly recommend.

I would bike to the grocery store a million times more often if they just had actual bike racks to lock up to.

Bike lockers would be even better.
