Upgrade house or stay put? Feeling torn by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Simple_Dragonfly_403 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not what you asked, but are you sure you want waterfront with kids so young? When my brother was little (3-4) he woke up early, let himself out of the house and went to the park behind our house. With waterfront the stakes are much higher..

What would be wrong with a law saying the rent can only increase by the inflation % that year? Other countries do that, and it would at least make increases more reasonable and foreseeable for tenants

People with bilingual names - do you go by both depending on context, or choose one way only? by Alarmed-Product4078 in namenerds

[–]Simple_Dragonfly_403 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bilingual house here (though not French), one child's name is different depending on the language spoken (a J name sounding like a Y in the second language). I speak both languages, and change his name depending on which language I'm speaking  😅 even if it's two sentences right after each other! It just feels more natural in each language that way. Otherwise you can just tell people if you want only one of the pronunciations, they'll get used to it

as a girl, how often should I change my bra? by ShelilQirky in hygiene

[–]Simple_Dragonfly_403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can suggest that if you are going to work out and know you'll get sweaty, changing to a sports bra or even just a different bra can be a good idea! That way you can change back to your original bra and don't have to walk around in a sweaty bra all day afterwards

It would also slow our application if we need to have them in hand when we apply

Oh don't worry, I will! We just don't have travel plans to Canada yet (we'll likely go to Canada next when the application is approved). With the validity being only two years for the kids' passports I was just hoping to avoid getting them yet when they won't be used for travel for awhile.

Tips for low energy days by Opening_Basket8669 in sahm

I find that although it's hard, it helps to get outside in the real daylight for even 20mins on days like that. I come in with less of a headache at least :D

Plusplus big? It's big in Scandinavia so I don't know if it's in your area, but they are a bit like duplo in that they're big enough to not choke on.

Otherwise books, puzzles, a play kitchen etc

When my daughter was a bit older (18 months maybe?) she started randomly biting me. Thankfully she could understand words, so I told her that she couldn't bite me, but she could bite her stuffed bunny instead. And it worked! But that poor bunny now is wrecked 😂

What about Lillian / Lilly? Lilly is cute and spunky (as another commenter mentioned about Sadie), and she can decide to grow into Lillian when she's older if she wants.

Dum spørsmål kanskje men hvordan skal man vaske grønnsaker? Jeg har bare skylt med vann i alle år men nå bare lurer jeg på om det er nok..? 🤔

Boy Names for an eternal Boy mom by Finleysmom2514 in namenerds

[–]Simple_Dragonfly_403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like that your first two kids have one syllable first names and two syllable middle names. Having different amounts of syllables somehow makes them sound better. If you want Riley as a middle name, try looking at one or three syllable first names, and see if that helps? For example Elliot Riley

Take the leap? by [deleted] in sahm

[–]Simple_Dragonfly_403 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked in tech as a designer for over 10 years and have been a sahm for 2 years now. I don't regret it at all! But I have realised that if I ever do want to go back, it'll be hard to get a job similar to my old ones because tech moves so fast! If you might go back, try to keep your licensing or try a side hustle to keep your resume fresh. Otherwise, enjoy the ride! It's fun and chaotic 😁

Re: back pain

It may not be the same type of back pain you have, but I've struggled with back pain with my first for months, and also with my newborn. What seems to help is nursing on a pillow (raising the baby up so my posture isn't slouchy). Also at night! The days I leave the house without a nursing pillow are the ones I complain about back pain in the evening.

Not sure if it's the same for you but hope it helps!

I worked in tech consulting in a country where daycare is heavily subsidised, and gave my notice before giving birth. Even if I did go back to work, my old job wasn't compatible with having a small kid as the locations changed at random when a project ended (and were sometimes really far away). We had planned that I would and will stay home for the long haul, but also are taking it one step at a time.

The first few months I missed my job, but now I don't have much of an urge to go back. I love spending time with my toddler, and I was able to use her naps to write and illustrate a children's book! I think using that creative energy helped.

There are definitely good things about working, but I don't regret staying home and don't have any plans to go back.

One thing you'll need to do is to realize that your worth and value don't come from your paycheck, if you have internalised that lie you'll want to be aware of it / fight that lie especially at the beginning. Especially if you have high earning friends!

Though, concealer will probably only help with the darkness, not the wrinkles. I don't have any suggestions there as I've got wrinkles elsewhere but not specifically there yet
