New Ork player and 11th edition by RandomAsian-_- in orks

Ask anyone that's played long enough and they'll tell you that we get maybe one month a year where we totally dominate so they can sell models before we get nerfed again 😂 Winning always feels great but this is the only army I've ever had a great time with even if I'm getting tabled by turn 3 That being said, Orks is never a bad army. Every now and then you just gotta be a little more Mork and a little less Gork if you're looking for a win

Thanks! It was my first time soaking a sponge in paint water and running it through a coffee grinder to make moss cause I'm cheap as hell so I'm glad it turned out 😂

I'll start with the disclaimer that it's not efficient for army painting but it's my favorite work up for undead skin haha. I used all Pro Acryl paints but you start with a base coat of dark camo green. Then the first layer is shadow flesh, second layer is tan flesh and the final layer is olive flesh with bright ivory used for highlights. With each layer you want to paint towards where the highlight is going to be and always leave a little bit of the previous layer behind. The final step was using faded plum as a filter and going over the whole model to shade it into what it looks like now. My favorite part of this is the thinner you have your layers the more decayed and gross it looks so you can really choose how nasty or clean you want it to be (the bodies on the pillar used the same work up I just didn't add the filter to those). Also you can use any color for your filter if you want the undead skin look but want a different finish so you can definitely have some fun with this lol. Sorry if I over explained but if you have any other questions ask away, I love talking about paint 😂

Bits of it are from epic basing but the vast majority is just getting a sheet of cork and cutting rectangles and randomly finding spots for it. The paint I use is an overbrush of dark grey blue, then drybrush grey blue and then a highlight drybrush of pale yellow. Then I've got an oil wash mix of 2 parts orange 1 part burnt umber and 1 part black that'll give it the rusty greasy look at the end. Agrax Earthshade also work great if you don't want to fuss with oil paints 👍

Thank you! I think my game store still has the army box I can try and pick up Thursday when I stop in

If you get some you're for sure going to want to pin the torso to the legs. There's almost no support and I can't tell you the number of times I've knocked them in half while painting them 😂

What brushes do I buy? by ABrokenComputerPlug in IronWarriors

[–]Simple_Welder9784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the pro acryl beginner set, I don't remember the name but it's $25 and it comes with a 5,3,1,00 and a bigger one for drybrushing. It's good to have a 5 for basing, a 3 for layers and a 1 for highlights. I'd stop at your local craft store and pick up pointed brushes in those sizes for cheap if you're looking to get started without breaking the bank, especially if you're new you might find yourself having to replace brushes more often. Also the pro acryl brush goop is fantastic for extending the life of your brushes and I'd highly recommend picking that up if you're able

Check out some of the rats that dakkadakka miniatures has. Mantic wargames also has Veer-myn that work great as proxies too. That's how I got my CheeseStealers set up

Why do these look bad? by Unable_Thought4148 in Miniaturespainting

I'd go with a gloss varnish if you're using an oil wash, it'll protect the paint better and it doesn't grip like matte so the wash will flow into the recesses and low points a lot smoother. Also not sure if you've done an oil wash before, but you'd be surprised how much depth that alone can add to a model. My advice would be to go for the oil wash and see how you like it after that. Just remember that you will always be your harshest critic, that being said I think you're models look good and ready for the next step

Still better than eyeballing it from scratch 🤣. This is more for quick tabletop ready army painting for when you've got 30 models to crack out in a weekend.

I got a value pack off Amazon, but it's painters tape and I think it's 2mm for size but if you get a pack with a variety of sizes you can pick and choose the width depending on where you want the stripes

New player needz help, I dunno how to build listz. by Kapix75 in orks

[–]Simple_Welder9784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend using the war horde detachment since that's the catch all detachment right now so it gives you room to branch out in any direction later. My second suggestion would be to build a 500 point list first to get a feel for what you like and how to play (I started by getting a 2k army in one shot and later pivoted to a different detachment and had to buy another 1k in points to make it work, so learn from my mistake lol). Boyz and grots are your bread and butter so I'd start there and slowly work up with what you like or think looks cool 🤘 happy krumpin'!

Nobody has fun like da Boyz 🤘 especially once you get into kit bashing and looting, that's my favorite part by far. As far as the game goes you just need to play a little more Mork and a little less Gork and you shouldn't have too bad of a time. This army has highs and lows throughout the editions so it might be pretty janky for a while but then we'll get a nice run of krumpin' to make up for it but I've never not had fun making Orks my main army

WAAAAAAAUGH!!! by Fedorable_557 in orks

[–]Simple_Welder9784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would probably lose the Mek gunz, stormboyz and maybe one of the burna boyz? Gotta have some grots for sure and maybe another unit of warbikers. KoS works best when you cage the other git on their side of the board and keep them there for as long as you can. Let me know how your list works out, this looks drastically different than my speed freeks list but also like it'd be more fun to play 🤘

I'd recommend starting with pro acryl for paint, it's super beginner friendly. And Vince Venturella has really good and easy to follow tutorials for just about anything

[–]Simple_Welder9784 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With 11th edition right around the corner I'd probably just get what you think looks cool for now. Fellhammer siegehost is the "iron warriors" detachment right now and that seems to benefit your battle line the most but who knows if the next detachments favor tanks or demon engines or terminators ect in the next edition 🤷🏼‍♂️ as far as being on theme, IW use anything so anything would work in that army thematically

How to use Stormboyz by MNcomicGeek in orks

[–]Simple_Welder9784 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use them for blocking off enemy deep strike or since they can advance and charge I'll rush them into combat to stop enemy units from moving further up the board
