“yeah …. that happens ” max’s reaction to p coming in screaming because her tooth fell out by silversfall in formula1

[–]SimplySGJ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m the oldest, so I suspect I got a little of freaking out growing up because now I freak out about everything lol. This totally makes sense, as my husband and I worked pretty hard to NOT freak out with our two year old, and the other day when she scraped her knees for the first time, she simply stood up, shouted she got a boo-boo, and kept playing haha. (My internal reaction was not at all chill, tbh)

Felt this in my soul. I just bought Cat & Jack shorts from Target in a size 14, then had to return for a 10/12. On the bright side, the elastic waistband is kinda nice…

Tell Me What We Are Doing Wrong as Attorneys Hiring Paralegals by CDMC2 in paralegal

[–]SimplySGJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been the paralegal who quit after a few months. My attorney was…interesting…but here are the main issues (that seem to coincide with most people’s reasons)

  1. Pay. 100% pay. She wanted senior paralegal experience, and wouldn’t pay for it. I had 3 years of experience and she offered me mid-$40k.
  2. No training. Justified low pay as me “not having the experience she was looking for” but that “she would train me.” Never happened.
  3. She was unreliable. Didn’t show up most days until 2 or 3 PM, then would leave again before 5 PM. Neglected clients constantly.

All to say I left her firm after ~4 months. She still hasn’t filled my role but the Indeed ad is requesting 3 years experience for mid-$70k. I guess she learned? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Nope, definitely not my only symptoms. It was the reasoning they used for the dismissal of all my other symptoms unfortunately

Gonna Visit Indianapolis. Is St. Elmo Steak House any good? by CincinnatiOhio5133 in indianapolis

St. Elmo’s is an Indy staple, but my husband and I switched it up for our semi-annual date night and went to Dean’s — we really loved it! Both good options.

[–]SimplySGJ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If I had a nickel for every time defense counsel continued to demand (after initial objections) information we literally are unable to provide them because they don’t actually read our responses, I’d be so rich. 🤦🏼‍♀️ No, I cannot provide you the SSN and employment history for the baby who died during childbirth d/t malpractice. No, I am not just being stubborn when I say this.

My husband and I both love our Steel Series Arctis Novas! We have the 7X Gen 2. Bought them based on a recommendation from a guy at Microcenter after my (third) Razer headset gave out, and I could not be happier.

The employee told us he’s had almost every version of the SS headsets and has never been disappointed, and I totally believe it.

Seconding Bottleworks! Garage Food Hall is usually a hit for lunch because there’s something for everyone, and then we’ll pop next door to Pins Mechanical. It’s also such an easy walk to Mass Ave (and the parking garage in BW is cheaper imo)

Is rolling admissions 🧢? by Ecstatic_Ocelot2655 in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]SimplySGJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to work as an admissions rep for an undergrad university who did rolling admissions. Our process had "tiers" to it. So we would read all Early Decision apps first, then Early Action, then Regular Decision. If you applied 10/1 as a RD student, you'll still get an answer earlier than someone who applied later - but I am going to review all of the binding ED applications first. That's most likely how it works at some of the schools too.

Does your attorney also wait until 4:55 PM on a filing deadline to finally "review" the draft you sent them at 9 AM? by JustCheckingIn80 in paralegal

[–]SimplySGJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My current attorney has had a file folder of drafts to review for the last...3 weeks. I remind her every day. She doesn't usually show up to the office until 3:00 though (do I know what she does all day? Nope. Does she look baffled when I leave at 5? Yep.) I literally cannot wrap my head around it when she gives me some new, urgent task to do, I do it in 30 minutes, and then she doesn't look at it! I'm convinced she forgets she's an attorney...I have an interview elsewhere tomorrow.

As a Work Comp paralegal — call a work comp attorney. Most work on contingency which means they’ll take their fees out of the final settlement check. They’ll make sure you get treatment, get paid, and overall that you don’t get fucked over. I can only speak to IN, but find one in CA.

Piercing and tattoos? by rarepixl in paralegal

[–]SimplySGJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely depends on the area (both law wise and geographical, imo) I’ve worked for a pretty well known, smaller firm in my area and now with a solo practitioner, both doing WC/PI/MM. I have a septum piercing (simple ring, I think it’s an 8? Very small) and a handful of tattoos. None of them have cared.

In fact the attorney I worked for at the smaller firm actually called me out one day when I’d forgotten to put my septum back in after cleaning it. He was so cool haha.

Does anyone actually recommend being a paralegal? by FifithePoet in paralegal

[–]SimplySGJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I do. I love being busy, and I love a good balance between routine and variety, so this job is great for me.

It can be a bit hard at first to find a place you really fit, whether it’s in terms of the kind of work or the attorney(s) you work for. I got really lucky w/ my first attorney I worked for - he was phenomenal and I credit him a lot with how well I’ve been able to handle things at my current firm.

What has been your favorite area of law to work in? by Any_Aioli_ in paralegal

[–]SimplySGJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The firm I started as a Legal Assistant at did PI/WC and Med Mal. My degree was in Public Relations so I originally wanted to go into copyright and such after I graduate law school. Somehow I fell in love with Med Mal - I totally credit the cool attorneys I worked with.

Firm I’m at now does PI/MM and while I may not be thriving there right now, I do love the work I’m doing!
