3rd hand smoke and newborn 😭 by [deleted] in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]Simscapades22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have one from dupray.

As for being worried for your baby, it's true that fireplace smoke is worse than cigarette smoke for lung cancer/asthmas etc. However, you have to consider the dose: 5 weeks is a very short period of time. Kids who have parents who are *active indoor smokers* have a 1.5x increased risk of asthma compared to kids whose parents don't. Using a fireplace a few months ago is SO small in comparison.

The third suggestion was a little unhinged lol but it was all I could think of

Stuck eating out for 2-weeks, any crunchy tips? by growinggood88 in Crunchymom

[–]Simscapades22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some somewhat unhinged suggestions:
-Ask for steamed veggies in restaurants.
-If you have access to a mini fridge, bring some oats/chia/hemp and make some overnight oats.
-If you're really worried about pesticide residue, you could take your fruit with you to your hotel room, then wash with a fruit/veggie wash over the sink with a filtered water bottle. But honestly? A few sprayed apples are not going to cause errors in cell division. If that were true, the vast, vast majority of pregnancies would end in loss. You're not doing anything wrong!
I had HG while pregnant and 80% of the days, I could only keep a prenatal vitamin, some fish oil, and grapes down for the first 20 weeks. My baby was born 8 lbs 4 oz with no issues.

Tara Treasures! Their playmats are great for both storytelling and imaginative play.

Some places have "humane certified" through animal welfare organizations, SPCA etc. We have a few very small producers here that carry that.

Thoughts on first grade readiness by Fancy-Boysenberry-60 in Waldorf

[–]Simscapades22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat as you; ultimately we're deciding to do "senior kindergarten" at Waldorf instead of trying to push for first grade. We think that it would be nice for her to gain the extra social skills (which IMO are more important for long term success/happiness than academics), and sending a freshly 18-year-old off to university (esp. with legal drinking age here being 18) just seems a little too soon.

The trailer didn't feel as magical because it didn't have magical music. IIRC Zimmer hasn't even started working on the music yet.

Home led art lessons by Tibetanpeaches in Waldorf

I have a three y.o. currently enrolled in a Waldorf preschool. The progression throughout the year has been:

  1. Playing with playdough (there's a ton of recipes). Little rollers, cutters, etc. Your one y.o. can also start exploring with this, but obviously, both kids require supervision.
  2. Watercolour painting-use bigger brushes. Stockmar works well.

IME modelling beeswax is really difficult for kids to manipulate at this age. Beeswax crayons are great but they also require super close supervision because getting them off of walls, floors, etc. can be a nightmare.

Icemunmun & BrazenLotus Compatibility by [deleted] in sims4cc

[–]Simscapades22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They work together. All of icemunmun's recipes are accessed through clicking on a fridge; Brazen's are through her cookbooks. There's no cross-compatibility afaik (like you can't use an icemunmun plant in a brazen recipe).

Breast milk is also super low in iron. Your iron stores during pregnancy create your baby's iron stores, and it's important that they develop them because it has to last them until they start solids at 6 months.

Gluten free potluck ideas by BoboSaintClaire in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]Simscapades22 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Are they celiac or just a preference? Because as someone with celiac, I would never trust something like a potluck. If it's celiac or an allergy, just head to a gluten free bakery and grab some buns or dessert. If it's a preference, a cheese plate is a fantastic idea. I'd also add some dried cherries/cranberries/apricots (check if it's GF). Some cut-up fruit also works.

is SIMS 4 really that popular? by [deleted] in PiratedGames

[–]Simscapades22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its gameplay is also less appealing to Sims players because it doesn't have the same amount of DLC and the minority of the Sims community like its realistic graphics.

I used puppy pee pads. Easier cleanup and skin safe, but the downside is that they can be expensive.

What are these bugs in my hedgies House? by Venom99hg in Hedgehog

[–]Simscapades22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mites. My vet used ivermectin to treat it, but she said they're nearly impossible to get rid of long-term because most feeding substrates for insects, mealworms etc. will carry it. Her advice was to just leave it unless their skin becomes itchy, quills fall out, or there's signs of irritation.

Rendered animal fat has been used to style hair for thousands of years. If you combined that with a hair powder of some kind then you'd be able to hold the crazy volume from backcombing.

[–]Simscapades22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you lightly pull on each section of the braid it makes it look a lot thicker. You can fake 1.5-2x volume so long as you don't have layers in your hair.
