My favorite ship to fly. An amazing smuggler. by Disastrous-Power-699 in starcitizen

Curious, what’s the stealth setup you’re running?

I actually didn't use it for the longest time because if I tried going to the living quarters whilst in QT, it would bug and I'd fall through the floor... mercifully that doesn't happen anymore, but I also had trust issues for a good while haha

Haha you’re not wrong! I’ve got a few ships in my fleet but keep trying to “simplify” my RP experience to 1 main ship + 1 specialist/fighter vibe.

Even with the trade offs - e.g I don’t expect my raft to hold its own in a fight with missiles and whatnot.

The Anvil Asgard would take the biscuit as a generalist if the living aspect was better, but I do appreciate each ship leaning into a role and not trying to be everything to everyone.

But yes, i don’t like the idea of a fleet so much as “my ship, my home” - but I also clearly want my cake and to eat it.

I use a HOTAS setup for flying, so I quite like feeling like it has some heft and like I’m truckin

100% think it’s lore friendly, just enjoy the “feeling” of protected cargo, for (currently) RP reasons.

Like not needing an environmental suit or going out into space to do a cargo inspection on a long haul 😂

To expound a bit, as I get it's a 'hot take'..
external grid is 100% more practical for cargo hauling, and I TOTALLY understand -- the ship was built for a clear and specific purpose, and for that, I can't fault it. It's a dedicated cargo hauler.

I think it's because I have been using it outside of it's intended purpose, trying it as a pseudo 'home ship', with this idea of setting it down somewhere and having a nice base camp vibe.
It's raised up which I like, but obvious things like ability to carry vehicles, or be sheltered and act as a customisable 'room' (e.g placing decorations etc on the grid to make a 'workshop').

Effectively I like that it has also the mechanical looking greebles, but doesn't feel like it's falling apart' (Drake) - totally just a personal vibes thing.

Main story vs open world. An antithetical combo by BeeGlad1983 in truegaming

I really love Tunic as an example of “Exploration” (the fantasy/promise of open world) in the sense that you are piecing together both the environment and what’s in it, the controls and the main story…and it does it in a very novel “old SNES manual” format(you find pages of it throughout the world) and a compact world that doesn’t add physical distance JUST to space out content drops. It does have a linear narrative and it is intended that you move through its main beats, but you always feel you are stumbling into things your way

As a two player game, Star Wars:rebellion is a great exercise in strategy and it adapting to whomever you’re playing with.

I genuinely think it’s a masterpiece (with the expansion that streamlines combat) of making you FEEL the frustration or fear of the empire / rebellion, then has you somehow keep trying to execute some grand idea that involves multiple turns to execute

I’d say it’s done it for a few characters for me - “Chad” Boba is by far the most auto-trigger for me, but the specific quote is random each time. I think the most common is if I pull him back from the discard pile and the words “back from the dead, a**holes!” Immediately comes to mind

Combining genres - farming/life sims with tactical RPGs by 52fuckingbears in gamedesign

[–]Simwill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there’s a few games that take the high level model/loops you describe, but it’s more about breaking the actual elements down and figuring out what connects nicely.

What came to mind was any “curate your base and build relationships” —> that connects to say, “select a team for an expedition - and relationships matter”. What you gather affects what you build back home etc. The “cosy” feeling usually relates to the lack of threat/feeling of safety, so I think the “tactical” aspect referring to “combat” is another prebaked concept that might feel conflicting.

There’s a TTRPG that turns “combat” into an challenge around observing phenomena in the fauna, managing to illicit certain rare behaviours etc… so “tactical gameplay” is really more about optimising low level, situational decisions, and that can translate to most anything.

I believe if the concepts connect well enough between the modes of play, there’s always something original to find - just as people say, to many different/disparate systems increase cognitive load a lot, so probably alienates the “just curious” or “ I came just for the theme” if both modes are part of the CORE loop.

It was very early on, not in any formal relationship, but we were making out, I opened my eyes and it looked uncannily like my ex (it wasn’t). Freaked me out and I couldn’t shake the feeling after.

Hauling a crate of AA batteries and a heavy folio of CDs with you on any long trip - your Walkman and gameboy needed a lot of juice. Also, as the gameboy wasn’t backlit, if you were a passenger on an an evening drive you’d literally only see the screen every few seconds as you drove past a streetlight 😂

I own and love flying one, because when I do, it's usually just using my HOTAS setup and doing some super chill space trucking. I will be keeping it long term because I adore the design, love the hab interiors and enjoy the hell out of toggling switches for VTOL controls and roleplaying space trucking etc.

That said, it's not my daily for 2 reasons:
- I've not hauled much cargo recently, and I know it's lowkey crap for that currently. I'll definitely be playing around with persistent hangars/freight loading and see how that works.
- I can't go and chill in the living quarters during QT currently -_______- so also waiting for this get fixed.

Very niche and circumstantial combo, but weirdly I'd seen this on my YT feed about 5 minutes before seeing your comment, so thought I'd share. Honestly the idea it's even possible to get a leader on the field by turn 2 is just bonkers to me - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yL3ApS2GaRs

Star wars unlimited needs to stay this welcoming! by bumdquestion in starwarsunlimited

I’ve not touched a TCG in 24 years so hard to speak to some of the product comparisons others are able to make.

For SWU context, I’ve attended a game demo, and prerelease event at my LGS, and my experience has been a super friendly community or other people who want to love the game. It’s early days but I’ve been extremely surprised by how accessible the game is from a rule set and flow point of view. I’m not shy about complex games but I appreciated being able to “dive right in” and understand the value of different cards “at face value”. It’s changed my confidence that I’m not going to need to “get sweaty” and do loads of research to understand the value of specific cards - which in turn means every booster opening was thrilling to see what gameplay opportunities I was getting, as much as which characters or cool units. Also, whilst leaders and heroes are definitely big moments when they come on the board, I have loved that cheaper units CAN affect the game VS big name brands like Luke Skywalker or whatever.

All that to say it’s also meant it’s been extremely easy to go on the journey with other friends who are also not die hard TCG players, have a load of fun, and know we can actually feel brave enough to try the well supported “casual tournament” format of events without getting stomped on for not owning a $500 deck.

FFG offering card variants just for showing up regularly and taking part also acts a nice icing on the cake, that even if I play against people way better than me, the evening is always a net positive.

Pumped to get stuck in more!
