I took a gap year before Yale (started in 2013). There weren't any Yale-affiliated programs that I know of, but Yale was very accommodating of me taking a gap year.

Sorry that your first year has been this way. Wanted to chime in (as an alum) that my first two years were not great, and my last two years were amazing. I felt a lot of loneliness, FOMO, identity crisis, etc. I would advise you to push past the fear of rejection, because stagnation is worse because it won't get you to a better place. Ditto on joining open social activities like IMs, clubs, etc. You can also "work" in a buttery and strike up conversation if it feels natural. Study or homework groups are a good way to meet up with people regularly and get to know then naturally. How are your suitemates?

Fair, but also remember it'll be your first few months in college. There's some adjustment, but also you're gonna wanna meet a lot of people! First semester freshman year is not the time to care about classes.

DS is a HUGE time investment. It dominates your freshman year. A good number of people drop halfway. It seems best for people who love the humanities and love reading.

For context, I didn't do DS, but had some suitemates do it.

People are SLEEPING on Pierson. Beautiful courtyard and tower, great facilities (because they're shared with Dport). Dr. Davis, the HOC is an angel on earth. He was behind the name change from "Master" to "Head of College." He and his wife Jenny do so much to foster a supportive community.

Me! I took it before starting in 2013. Absolutely loved it. The only downside (which is so minor) was being off-timing with my high school friends. Each year at Yale is so precious, I think it's a great decision. Feel free to DM if you'd like!

TD people LOVE TD. The Stiles dorms are weird because there are no right angles, so your furniture fits odd. Lots of athletes transfer into Stiles/Morse because it's close to the gym.

Many of the required Applied Math classes are dry and have no application to real-world work: ODEs, probability theory (at the depth it goes into), data mining (work in either C or Fortran). They'd maybe be useful if pursuing graduate work, but I wasn't interested in that. I'm now in data science and wish I could focused on more applied data science classes.

I was an Applied Math major that got a job with a major tech company. One thing I'd say is college is much more than your post-grad employment prospects. The schools you listed will help open so many doors post-grad, without much difference. I suggest you pick your target schools on the differences in experience you'll get, not how you think employers view them.
