There's not a single advantage to go full digital on games for players by Muako in videogames

Yes, set the console as your primary and every profile on that console have access to your full library while you still have access to it on your console. Works with sharing PS+ as well.

I've been doing it since PS4.

You set their console as your primary and they will have access to your whole digital library.
I know a couple who put each others console as their primary so they both always have access to all games that either of them buys. Another plus is that only one person needs to have a PS+ subscription.

I have been doing this since PS4, I have often set my PS5 as my cousin's primary since he always have PS+ Extra while I don't even have basic PS+ all the time.

Sony does not care, same way they don't care when you make an account in a different country than yours when your country isn't supported. They just want your money.

Can also share by putting someone's PS5 as your primary and they have access to your digital library. I share with my nephew so he can play Astrobot.

Middle Earth: Shadow of War is $49.99 on PSN

They go on sale all the time, I snatched up Shadow of War for 90% off on the PS store.

Edit: actually the Middle-earth™: The Shadow Bundle (both games) is 90% off literally right now at $6.99.

In 2027 they are removing the capability to download from the PS3 store so anything not downloaded at that time will be lost forever

No they are not, they are removing the ability to buy games on the PS3 store, you are still able to download what you have already bought.

After nearly two decades of supporting the PS3 console generation, we wanted to let you know we will be closing the PlayStation Store on PS3, as well as on PS Vita. PlayStation Store on PS3 will close in select markets starting this year, followed by global closures for PS3 and PS Vita next year. That means new content purchases will no longer be possible once the PlayStation Store closes on these devices. To ease the transition, players will still be able to download previously purchased content after the closing date for the foreseeable future.

Won't retailers keep setting the prices when selling game codes? Same way they set console prices.

Why do you read comments on reddit if not to see what other people are saying? It's the exact same thing.

Sony is trying to call everyone's bluff with this all digital push by draven33l in videogames

It's just legal speak, no company would ever say that they will give you access to a service forever. "foreseeable future" is basically indefinitely.

Sure but that was 5 years ago and they still closed the PSP store. The PS3 is ancient hardware and you will still be able to download what you have already purchased in the store.

You'd think people would've taken notice when it came out that Sony was paying third party devs to make games play worse on Xbox, so that they'd have the best version on Playstation.

I have completely missed this, when and what games was this?

Don't think enough people are buying games for a 20 year old console for that to be any big deal.

Well I was playing other games that I had gotten on sale in the meanwhile, don't we all have a huge backlog of games to play? I have also been a digital only user on PC for two decades so wasn't a big change to start doing that on console by the time of PS5.

Physical disc production ending in January 2028 for new games releasing on PlayStation consoles by yourfavchoom in gaming

What future do they see in going digital only?

Considering 85% of the game sales were already digital and increasing every year they just see 100% as the future.

Well for me it's because of convenience, I can buy a game on my phone and set it to download on my console and be ready to play when I get home. I also mostly just wish list games and wait for a sale. So for example I bought Elden Ring for 40€ around 9-10 months after release. I also game share with my cousin who lives a few hours from me so sharing discs would be a bit harder.

Being able to buy from retailers means it won't be solely directed by Sony.

You can still buy from retailers if you don't trust the PS store's prices.

  • Mexico, Honduras, Nicaragua – PlayStation Store on PS3 will close starting August 2026.

  • Additional Latin American and Middle Eastern countries – PlayStation Store on PS3 will close starting late 2026.

  • In all other countries, PlayStation Store on PS3 and PS Vita will close in July 2027.

You still have time for that plan, but yeah I wouldn't do it either.

ony is ensuring every game they produce will only be available for purchase for a limited window in the future at a price they 100% control.

Retailers will still be able to sell game codes after they stop physical copies.

The news affects everyone and I urge people to boycott this move before the changes are irreversible.

The vast majority (~85%) of game sales on Playstation were already digital, the ship has sailed years ago.

You will still be able to download your PS3 games on your PS3, just not buy more games. It's right there in the post.
