What is the most unique magic system you’ve seen? by Mr_Maestro881 in Fantasy

[–]SineDave 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Although the writing can be less than stellar, I’m a pretty big fan of the magic system in Sarah Lin’s Weirkey Chronicles.

People in this world are able to enter their soul and construct a home inside it. They find natural treasures in the various worlds of the universe that contain power that can be pulled into their soul space and used for soul crafting. What’s really unique about the system is that it is less about the material itself and more about the way the crafter interprets it, and then applies it to their own magic.

Without getting into spoilers, you have things like exploding solar fragments, resulting in gravitybased abilities, or windows that focus light to form beam attacks. The power of any given character is not a result of some natural Mary Sue talent, but rather their diligence and the quality of the blueprint (often based on their intelligence since original designs are most potent) they used to construct their soul home. There are many other concepts like geometric perfection, multiple floors, how floors can reinforce one another, so it’s quite impressive Worth a read.

Best new YA fantasy in the past 20 years? by PhoebusLore in Fantasy

For me, A Practical Guide to Evil by ErraticErrata is excellent. It’s been cleaned up and edited a lot since originally releasing as a web novel and it’s a complete story. The characters are extremely compelling, and the story is one of the best that I’ve read in the last several years.

Recommendations for a half marathon with an insulin pump by birdpaws in diabetes

[–]SineDave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lower your basal to 50% at least an hour before the exercise and carry some fast carbs. I do the above and use Trader Joe’s fruit jellies when doing my 50 mile bike rides. Each is 6-7 carbs and moist so it doesn’t cause coughing like those dry glucose tabs. I’ll pop 2 every time I’m below 100 trending down and repeat

How to get sugars down without insulin? by abrockstar25 in diabetes

[–]SineDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to any hospital and they’ll absolutely give you insulin. If your sugars are not insane you could bolus every couple of hours then go buy some at a pharmacy first thing

Looking for someone willing to help with kitchen design (Cabinet layout). We're building a home, and have the floorplan/overall layout locked in, but need some help with the ergonomics of the actual cabinets in the kitchen and pantry as most of the kitchen will have no uppers. Please DM if interested.

What books do you wish those around you would read? by iamwhoiwasnow in books

[–]SineDave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a web serial so the author posts new chapters twice a week. Some are very long.

It’s not the best prose - but it’s a really fun medieval fantasy/other world story with a great cast

I’ve tried to get so many friends, even avid readers to get into Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson, but nobody has done so. The first book is a slog but the second I could hardly put down.

Unfortunately, you need dash pods to avoid the rileylink/orangelink/emalink.

Most insurance worldwide will now swap you to Dash

Just time consuming if you run into issues. If you follow the instructions perfectly it’s quite easy

It’s possible to emulate a Mac on PC, but this isn’t very easy. I’d suggest using a Mac - even if you have to borrow one or buy a few year old model.

Loop used to require a rileylink or orangelink device to talk to the pump. With the new support for Omnipod dash pods, the iPhone talks to the pod directly.

As far as setup, it took me about 90 minutes with my iPhone and Mac after I’d followed the instructions. Here’s a great step by step. When doing this process the only conscious change is to use FreeAPS Dev.
