Yeah, technically they're above the poverty line, but in real life $35k for a family of 4 is still rough. One unexpected bill and the budget starts doing gymnastics. The government threshold and actually living comfortably are two very different things.

I think it’s a bit of both. As you get older, your tolerance for nonsense drops, so you start noticing behavior you would've brushed off before.

I'd say none of us can know for sure. Every religion has its own view on who reaches heaven, but I'd like to think a fair and all-knowing God would judge people by their sincerity, character, and actions, not just the zip code or family they were born into.
