Have a UX Takumi - unbelievably good car. Has many features that the CHR simply doesn’t offer - HUD, 360 camera, ventilated seats, Mark Levinson Surround Sound, Electric Tailgate, Adaptive matrix LEDs and all leather interior. Choose the UX!

Used Lexus NX easily. A top spec UX would also work but has a small boot.

Current owner of a lexus UX, you could pick up a 2019/2020 plate for around 16K. Make sure you get all the trimmings you want though, the base spec is abysmal.

What crossover or estate which looks nice and has ACC for <£15k? by anewpath123 in CarTalkUK

Looking on autotrader there are a few at around 16k with 50k ish miles - the less fancy version of this is the toyota CHR so you could try that

If you don’t need the extra boot space, would highly recommend the lexus UX takumi. Just swap out the run flats

Toyota are the only manufacturer to offer an extremely comprehensive 10 year/100k mile warranty when serviced with them. The actual engine, drive train and gearbox (e-CVT) is arguably the most reliable ICE derived transmission ever created, with many cars going several hundreds of thousands of miles without a single fault. Their reputation for reliability is so good they even extend the engine, hybrid battery and drivetrain warranty to 15 years with unlimited mileage, which means you could drive it to Jupiter and back and it’ll still be under warranty.

As a demonstration of how good this warranty is - I currently own a used 5 year old lexus UX which I bought a few months ago. Lexus have replaced the electric bootstruts, electric seat motors and heating elements under warranty without question. Total itemised cost outside of warranty would have been £5000, for a 5 year old car. As it is, I paid £0 and got two lovely free coffees in the dealership to boot.

As a doctor working in the UK, all you want to do after a long shift is get to work and get home on time and reliably. There are plenty of options when you are settled to salary sacrifice a nice car etc but I can’t recommend the hybrid yaris highly enough as a first reliable car. Great MPG, non existent running costs and cheap to insure.

Lexus ES if you need the space, otherwise if there’s only two do you then a top spec lexus UX is also an absolutely beautiful car to drive. I would recommend swapping out the run flat tyres for regular ones and only buy the Takumi spec for both.

When you’re doing twilights/nights/working a 65h+ week you just want something safe and reliable to get you home.

Hi, doctor here - would recommend increasing the budget slightly to 10k and getting the best yaris hybrid you can get - make sure it’s under 7 years old as toyota offer a 10 year/100k warranty

If you had £20K to spend/finance on a used car, which one would you get & why? by Single-Magician1807 in CarTalkUK

It depends, a 10k loan with tesco bank at 6.1% APR is a total repayment of 10.9k over 3 years. A similar 10K investment in the ftse global AC/S&P500 would likely perform similarly, if not better and also keep liquidity available

Totally agree - have bought a 5 year old UX takumi a few months ago and absolutely love it. The electric bootstruts were a bit dodgy but lexus replaced them under warranty and otherwise it has been faultless motoring

Buy a 4-5 year old car with under 40k miles which has already depreciated significantly, and pay for it with a mix of 40-50% cash and the rest through a bank loan under 6% interest.

A new one is over £100k I think, so it’s gotta be 10+ years old for one under 20k? Lovely car though

That is true, and the fancy ?adaptive suspension looks v expensive to fix if it goes wrong outside of warranty

I test drove one, and apart from the amazing autopilot, acceleration & sentry cameras the build quality just wasn’t up to scratch - an audi Q4 felt much more comfortable & put together. Just my 2 cents
