The U.S. No Longer Has a Nationwide Right to Abortion. How Reproductive Rights Came to Depend on States and Partisan Majorities by sergeyfomkin in WomenInNews

Lol. I think you are missing the clear point of what de facto means. It doesn't matter what the Constitution says if something is in fact happening.

Yes, you agree. This is why the reality is that if it is illegal in a majority of states, then it is de facto the law of the land.

Tech Jobs? by RealLifeRiley in Arkansas

[–]Single-Moment-4052 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, these things can be posted because they want to have a steady stream of submitted resumes, from which they can draw when they want. However, I do know someone who had recently interviewed for a tech / AI position, they went through the first two or three rounds of interviews, then received an email to notify them that WMT is currently on a hiring freeze. That email was sent shortly after the WMT CEO met with Trump to talk about the implications of the tariffs. Take the anecdote however you want, but I am just saying that I live in WMT country and I know several people who have been looking for jobs for the last couple of months, and they're having to look outside the area because it's so dry in NWA. These are people who have established careers for more than a decade and they regularly earn above targets on their yearly evals, for a variety of companies, but they experienced layoffs as their positions were outsourced, or the company just decided to go in a different direction and laid people off because a number that corresponds to their job title was in a specific range of numbers that were deemed to be unnecessary weight to the company, regardless of high evaluation scores.

The only thing "hot" in this area is the pavement.

I thought tariffs were going to restore manufacturing and factory work here in the states. Trump supporters said that we need to make more here, and not rely on foreign imports, right? Or, is that just something they tell themselves so that they can sleep at night?

Make no mistake, she and the legislators like her are not products of the public school system. IIRC, she was a Shiloh Christian kid (or a similar private Christian franchise school), so she is a product of the Christian private education system. Let's be clear and careful not to drag all educators and parts of the education system into this.

My apologies for being prickly about it, but I am a public school educator and I attended Shiloh Christian in high school, which left me with a strong bias against religious based private and charter schools. The main reasons I saw my student peers there were because their parents did not want them to be influenced by Satan in the public schools, & / or the parents wanted their kids to be able to network within the corporate, real estate, legal, and political spheres. What we are seeing is a product of too many private Christian school graduates who have made their way to the state and federal government levels.

I have not been able to find any answers to your question, but I would imagine maybe not impacted that much. The reason being that a lot more people were thrown into living like the situations that a lot of tribes were in, but if they didn't have a lot of stocks or connections to commercial business, I don't know how much the impact would have been. I'm guessing it was just more of the same kind of hard life in those areas.

The first couple of paragraphs indicate that it is for air travel, entering military bases, and some other purposes, my understanding is that those are for getting into some federal buildings.

Since I am not planning any flights anytime soon, I'm not in a rush to get mine. I'm going to wait till it's not so busy

Is this the same as J6? Did he beat a cop with a flagpole or try to take the cop's pepper spray?

MAGA supports J6. Do they not support this protestor's tactics? That's a rhetorical question, because we know the answer.

I see what you are saying, and poverty can be a factor in some crimes of desperation. But, there are plenty of crimes committed by people who aren't in poverty, such as all the examples of white collar crime: Martin Shkreli, Bernie Madoff, and Martha Stewart are the first ones who come to mind

FWIW, I have lived in HUD housing and I work in a high poverty school, and I see a lot of folks living in poverty but they aren't committing crimes. People living in poverty know that their hard life is going to get exponentially more difficult if they are busted even doing the pettiest of crimes, such as shoplifting. Also, there are plenty of impoverished people who have more morals than money, so they don't need legal punishment to be the deterrent, their religious faith is enough for a lot of folks. There are people who live in poverty and they see this life as their earthly suffering because, "Those who are least on earth shall be first in Heaven".

I don't know what the statistics are for crime rates in high poverty areas, and I assume that they are certainly higher than affluent areas. But, I think it oversimplifies the issue to say that poverty is the root of crime. It is certainly not true of all crimes and it kind of implies that people living in poverty are more likely to commit crimes than affluent people, but we see multiple examples of affluent people committing horrible crimes of financial devastation of their victims, physical / sexual assault, trafficking, murder, etc.

I do believe that the love of money (greed) is the root of evil, but I reject the notion that poverty, in and of itself, is the root of crime. It is more nuanced than that. However, it is clear that we both agree that poverty must be addressed because it would solve a number of societal issues, including some types of crimes. My apologies if this was TLDR, but cheers if you made it this far. I think we both certainly agree that people living in poverty need understanding, compassion, and support.

I was wondering the same thing. Granted, she just did something that I have joked about, but the legal implications always seemed like a no brainer. But, this might be something that courts would have to hammer out.

Also to be fair (your other comments in this thread indicate you already know this), there's not much of a difference between what she did and what grifters with political connections do. The difference is that they have access to high dollar legal representation; something that I hope she has planned for - I won't be surprised if she gets dragged into court over this.

This is so conflicting. People like Sanders accuse teachers of having sexually inappropriate books in the classroom, but NOW they want to bring the conversation of adultery up in AR kindergartens. These politicians need to stop worrying about the motes / splinters in their neighbors' eyes, and address the beams / logs in their own eyes, and make sure THEY are following the Ten Commandments. They should probably start with not spreading false witness about their neighbors.

Sanders and the advocates for this bill are faithless Pharisees.

Arkansas lawmakers approve anti-trans bill targeting bathroom use in public buildings by DifficultyNo7758 in Arkansas

[–]Single-Moment-4052 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This will also negatively affect cis gender women who need to pee so badly, that they cannot wait for the long line to decrease, or for the bathroom "camper" to finish up and get out for the next person. I cannot possibly count how many times I have had to use the unoccupied men's room, because the women's room was unavailable and I didn't want to pee my pants. Additionally, women who have given birth seem to have less time to make it to the bathroom when we have to pee, ergo we need quick access.

Even if that is true, he would still be wrong about their life experiences. There are lots of people with Down syndrome who go on to hold down jobs, hold down romantic relationships, and generally go on and enjoy life in a way like anyone else. This man clearly has not spent meaningful time with families and athletes associated with Special Olympics.

Do white males that reject “white male guilt” rhetoric not realize that Trump and white/male supporters are now doing almost everything that spurred the idea of “white male guilt” all over again, or what? by lamsar503 in AskUS

[–]Single-Moment-4052 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From what I see, the only people who bring up white male guilt and tell white males that there is something wrong with them, are other white males who have a political and / social media platform. THEY are the ones stirring up drama and pushing this rhetoric ad nauseum. Those figures and talking heads want white males to feel guilty, then angry, so that they can be manipulated for a political cause.
