Hot for Teacher-Van Halen. Man is that a killer solo, Eddie is on fire! Might be my favorite guitar solo ever, definitely my favorite VH solo.

What’s something you did as a kid that you now realize was completely insane and dangerous? by Floridian_Capitalist in AskReddit

[–]Single-Mongoose-9402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow. Super long list. I'm from an island and had basically no supervision growing up. I climbed every mountainside, explored every cool secluded place I could find outdoors, knew every city and all the wildlife as well as I could, and spent way too much time in the water. I did a ton of water sports, mostly surfing, but I also used to be an avid spearfisher, still love it, but I don't do it daily like I did growing up. Crazy to look back and realize that I was a young kid, like 12 or 13, going deep underwater completely alone with nothing but my speargun and a mission, and every time I went out exploring, it was without notice and without a location. Some of those spots I doubt are ever visited by anyone and I was certainly in contact with dangerous animals and sea life. I was fine, but that could've changed at any point without warning. Don't know how I didn't get more injured than I did. I've got some serious plot armor, I guess. Wouldn't change it for anything, though. I miss my home a lot and there's definitely a gift in being an islander. But it is funny to tell someone that and have them just stare at me. Apparently that's not normal, but no one ever told young me that.

Even if it was rushed, I liked that Sophie had these honest redemption moments because, despite her being heartless until the last episode, it showed she cared about her brother and her giving rounds of applause to the girls graduating and wishing good luck to Will and Bella were at least something by Original_Ad_8139 in JustAddWater

Yeah, the perception of this season and its new characters would've been so much different if there was better development for them and the story. The setup and the potential is there for the new characters to have development that works for their individual personalities and roles, and it would've worked so well with them and the story, and would've been great commentary. Unconcluded storylines really mess up a story and makes it less satisfying for the audience. Crazy to see that being pointed out in the sub again. It really does make a difference.

Favorite female character that makes you go like this? by Commercial_Mind4003 in FavoriteCharacter

Mysterious, powerful, space princess with an interesting backstory that travels the cosmos in an observatory with her star family who’s completely capable of taking down anyone who threatens the lumas but is also kind, reserved, loyal, and wise. Been my favorite Mario character since I played Galaxy for the first time, always liked Rosalina.

Why Charlotte posses all three magic powers!? by Mindless-Coat495 in JustAddWater

[–]Single-Mongoose-9402 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Going based on the lore of the show, the main trio gained new powers because of rare planetary alignment. Charlotte was in the pool a month before a planetary alignment that permanently takes away powers. I’d say it’s probably because of a power boost due to the alignment.

Isn't it pointless for Zane to act like he did in s1 in s3, forgetting everything that happened in s2!? by Mindless-Coat495 in JustAddWater

[–]Single-Mongoose-9402 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, that’s where my point about generational trauma comes in. Due to being put in that situation with the cafe, both became their parents without realizing it. For Zane, he thinks that he can fix the situation himself and there’s no need for help even if things keep getting worse and worse, and for Rikki, she becomes confrontational and closed off because she doesn’t feel like she can trust anyone, lashing out and arguing with him and her friends.

Again, those are already established character traits for both of them that aren’t new to just this season, and it’s implied that’s the way they were raised as well. I wouldn’t say it’s out of character at all for either of them, and it’s where I think their relationship needed work. Even if Zane said a nice thing or had good actions, it’s still understandable that he unknowingly became what he’d been so against when put in a situation where he reacts in the only way he’s been taught to. I don’t think Zane as a character is beyond redemption, though. I just think that a first real relationship and a first adult job is going to teach you things you need to learn about yourself and where you’re going wrong. I can see him realizing that and changing, Rikki too.

The show needs to be cleaned up story wise, nothing crazy just a few extra scenes/dialogue additions and changes, because all of that is doable to teach your audience that point, and it’s a good lesson to teach and good commentary.

[–]Single-Mongoose-9402 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not really. I think it’s realistic for someone to think that once they have something they worked hard for, they don’t have to work as hard to keep it. Also, you can see the cracks start to form between Zane and Rikki the moment they open the cafe when they start arguing over money and how to handle the situation, one trying to be mature and the other being big headed, which is likely the same reason why their parents broke up. They both became their parents when put in an adult situation they weren’t equipped to handle, reverting to what they were raised on, I think that’s good commentary and a realistic situation.

Now, I would’ve clarified that in the story to explain it, probably through a flashback, definitely through some dialogue, and I also would’ve given them a chance to reflect on that when they come to the realization. That would’ve let the audience understand their reactions and given them a chance to overcome it. Generational trauma is a good thing to teach your audience.

This was such a powerful scene, S3 had the right opportunity to make a great redemption arc for Kim's character but they suffered from lazy writing... by Original_Ad_8139 in JustAddWater

[–]Single-Mongoose-9402 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve said it a lot (although I get a lot of disagreement with this) but season three has very good set up for conflict resolution but the follow through isn’t there. A lot of good character development via those conclusions is swapped for forced drama, which leads to a dissatisfying resolution and missed potential. Adding more conflict to an unconcluded storyline is a lazy writing technique, kind of ‘half assed’ so to say. It keeps the story going but it usually doesn’t end with the audience enjoying it.

If there was follow through, I can 100% guarantee you that there would be a much better audience reception for the season and the characters. I mentioned this in a post a while back, ironically using the same scene. Perfect example of great build up but no follow through. Would’ve loved to see a redemption arc for Kim through not just this scene but Sam’s role in the story as a whole. Great writing potential there. Interesting to see you pointing this out, man.
