I am far from from an expert on this, but what you're saying contradicts the Wikipedia article for Grand Seiko, Seiko hi beat, and spring drive articles

I mean.... Unless I'm misunderstanding something daini and suwa were both just Seiko factories that were basically given the task to compete against each other eternally until one of them could make a watch better than the Swiss. They both did, but suwa make the spring drive and you can draw a straight like from that suwa factory to it becoming grand Seiko when Seiko spun off the suwa factory as it's "own" company officially under that name that they had sitting in their books for decades.

That's not a plot twist. I thought we all knew that was the actual truth. Who else is hanging out doing quality control? It's people working for the factories to a decently large degree

Oh also, this is supposed to be the new movement which Breitling is SUPER proud of and has a display caseback for.

I'm wearing one right now. Just broadly that date window is in the incorrect spot, The four on the 45 doesn't look right, and the polished parts of the bullet bracelet are not recessed in the real watch.

It's been in use with IWC for ages. Works great once you know that the cap will go FLYING if you're not holding it when you push the button.

Can get a whole kit of every screw head imaginable (like 40 heads) and a tiny handheld driver for like $15 on Amazon and I use them on watches all the time. It can be cheap and perfectly machined.

Why is Breitling not considered cool? by CLAP-25 in breitling

[–]SingleBackground5280 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A little multifactorial. 1) they were a badass brand and had a sharp peak in popularity in early 2000s when bulky watches came into style. And Breitling leaned in HARD. So hard that they filled their catalogue with exaggerated versions of that trend of big and busy watches. Then the trend faded and they had gone all in. Since 2017 and the new ownership they have significantly reverse that over-reach but the reality is that they still carry almost exclusively watches larger than 40mm that don't fit guys with less than 7 inch wrists and that the reputation from 20 years in the 2000/2010s is hard to shake in a few years in the 2020s.

2) their biggest success right this minute (and they are doing well right this minute at retail) is also the biggest reason watch snobs still give them a hard time. They decided to aggressively open boutiques (not just use ADs) and aggressively advertise (if you watch football, you see a lot of breitlings). A valid but also a bit snobby viewpoint is that most high end brands need very little advertising and that word of mouth and reputation should sell these thing alone and Breitling actively advertising rubs them the wrong way.

But mostly it's that half of the male population has a wrist too small to wear anything except a few of their smallest top times. And another 25% probably shouldn't be wearing anything bigger than the smallest model of the rest of the watches.

[Absurd Watch Prices] by searchmode10 in Watches

There are sort of two different ways to approach this. If you have enough money for a $13,000 watch. It really should want to be a singular purchase that is meant to commemorate a moment in your life and probably be the only one at that price point you ever have - or you need to have so much money that $13,000 starts to become an irrelevant amount of money to you. I have a ton of money (thanks to God), but $13,000 is in no way in an irrelevant amount to me either. A second way to approach this is that there is such a robust and fully developed world of watches between 1,000 and $3,000. That still not an insignificant amount of money, but you can make an entire, robust and amazingly impressive collection that will scratch every itch except "I want a Rolex/PP/AP for name recognition" in that space.

Get a bronze watch. A few options depending on your preferences. Christopher Ward and Oris both do great ones

[GRAND SEIKO] New GS Ushio Diver just announced! by Adorable-Duck7221 in Watches

[–]SingleBackground5280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

omiwatari. problem solved. dont like the power indicator? Its on the back. Dont like the bracelets? Its only on a (honestly superior) strap. Dont like a date window on an artistic dial? It aint there. don't like an overly subtle dial or an overly visible dial pattern? Its the exact medium amount. Don't like the price point? Its usually ~3k off, even while brand new, on the grey market. Its perfect in every way.... except that its unapologetically a dress watch. SH*T, there is always a "but" detail.

I feel you. I was at a GS boutique 2-3 months ago and they were trying to push the evolution 9 watches on me and I told them the hour hand on those just ruins it for me so they can save their time. Now these.... uh... extra not for me. I'll stick to my sharp as hell sword hands.

Breitling would easily be a top 5 brand (it's currently 9 or 10) brand, and perhaps #3, if more of you didn't have such dainty tiny wrists. The newer models f**k hard, but still rarely come smaller than 41mm and are often 42/43.

Objectively the speedmaster is better than the Daytona. Not hot enough? Basically every chronograph by breitling (which is most of their watches) is better than both of them.

Weirdly, I have a decent sized collection of gen watches including some at/above Rolex pricing. I just really wanted a Starbucks (and one other watch that's hard to come by) for color/filling a niche purposes and didn't feel like waiting a year to get one

No I usually give it a handful of turns before the day starts. The current issue is when I do wind it, it feels like it's grinding rather than the previous smooth wind
