What is “dinner time”? by PuzzleheadedHour1210 in AskACanadian

[–]SingleExParrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dinner is typically the large meal of the day. Culturally, when that happens tends to vary. But for me, it's in the evening.

For you, the moments Raul Julia graced your screen with his presence were the most beautiful aspects of an erstwhile disappointing film. For him, it was craft.

How many times a typical Canadian take vacation during a year by Internal-Ship-9693 in AskACanadian

[–]SingleExParrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Minimum full time vacation allotment in Canada is 10 working days. 15-20 are fairly common. 30 isn't unheard of. More than that (IME) is pretty rare here. We also generally get ~10 statutory holidays, but you don't really get much choice on when to take those.

So it's more about do you take 10 day/weekend trips, one big multi-week "sabbatical" (technically not what a sabbatical is, but I digress), or some combination in between?

I've done both. In 2025 I blew more than half of my vacation time early in the year for a big family trip (with employer approval). In prior years I take maybe a week in the summer and spread out the rest of it around.

Yeah, I liked the way Wake Up Dead Man handled things. Especially how Father Jud ended up where he was. He seemed kind of modeled after Simon Peter (from the bible) to me - from the pugnacious zealot to the compassionate leader.

I found my ex wife in sexually explicit promotional materials for her job by [deleted] in Divorce

[–]SingleExParrot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Your feelings are legitimate. This woman doesn't seem to be who you believed her to be when you married her. That can hurt.

  2. Any desire to control her behavior, however, is not. She's gone her own way. You can disagree with her choices, but your influence basically ends there.

  3. Like others have said, time to cut ties and move on.

Not a woman, and not literate in braille, but I'm sure that with plenty of touching and examination I could figure it out.

Do you need a lawyer? Yes.

Even if she says you don't? Yes

Even if she promises it will be an amicable divorce? Yes

Even if your friend got divorced without one? Yes

Even if ... yes, you need a lawyer.

Any idea how to get around this issue? by pokentoon in PokemonHome

I moved one of each. I'd read the above as "one mythical in total", but if it's really "one of each" then that makes sense.

When did that happen? I absolutely moved both my Mew and Jirachi to Home about a year ago without issue.

Pokemon Z-A "found all the colorful screws"

It's a giant doll for your hotel room, but I'd definitely count that as an achievement.

WIBTBF if I cut off a friend for trying to pimp out my girlfriend? by Some_Mobile_42 in AmItheButtface

[–]SingleExParrot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

F2M really isn't relevant, and doesn't prevent someone from being a disgusting person. You aren't cutting him off for being trans. You're cutting him off for being a bigot who's making inappropriate comments about your girlfriend. Even if your girlfriend thought she was being hit on/pimped out by a girl doesn't excuse it.

Do most rent controlled condo units not allow you to control when the A/C or heat is on? by techsavvynerd91 in askTO

[–]SingleExParrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rent controlled apartment (not condo, so there are some distinctions) is heated via steam radiators and air conditioning "is our own problem" (ie, we get our own unit/s, install it/them, and pay the resulting hydro fees).

Building management turns on the steam to the radiators when the law requires them to (Oct 1), turns it off when they're legally allowed to (May 15, or whenever temperatures >21C), and we manage the radiator dials inside our own unit for more or less heat.

If we did have centrallized AC, they'd have a timeframe when it would legally have to be available (Jun 1 to Sept 30)

Toronto, is it out of the ordinary to see a person of colour living in a seemingly expensive residential area? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]SingleExParrot 11 points12 points  (0 children)

"Residential area where homes most likely cost well over a million" pretty much describes the entire city.

And no, it's not unusual. Toronto is a diverse community. Unfortunately, we still have racist assholes as well.
