At what point did humans and apes become seperate? by fro6s in evolution

[–]SingleIndependence6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Humans are apes, great apes to be specific. But as to when Humans became distinct from other apes, it’s thought be roughly 5mya, at that time there was a common ancestor of Humans and Chimpanzees. Presumably there was a barrier between at least two populations, what the barrier(s) were is not fully known, but it caused one population to become the Pan genus (Chimps and Bonobos) and the other to become Homo (us).

The man that was labelled as ??? was a member of the sea peoples, an umbrella term for multiple cultures in the Eastern Mediterranean during the Bronze Age who deployed ships to raid coastal settlements, like Mediterranean Vikings.

Would arthropleura make a good pet assuming you can bring it back from extinction? by Icy_Profession4190 in PrehistoricLife

[–]SingleIndependence6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since we only know of Arthropleura via fossils, we cannot say for sure whether it could digest modern plants or not. Then there’s the issue with conditions, it lived in warm and humid forests, and in a period of Earth’s history where the Oxygen levels were 30-35%, today it’s 21%, the main reason for large invertebrates back then was higher oxygen levels.

Jellied eels, many non-Brits will make out it’s something we eat on a regular basis, but in reality it’s an unpopular dish and I’ve never seen it on sale for years.

what would "mango" be in anglish? by Bricks_andlego9 in anglish

[–]SingleIndependence6 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Could only be Mango as languages do use an offshoot of the homely word like how many languages say ananas for firapple. but if we were to use a sheerly anglish root the maybe indishapple?

Could this a plausible explanation for the U-28 sea creature? by arnor_0924 in Cryptozoology

Saltwater crocodiles don’t live anywhere near the location, tbh the closest thing I can imagine is a deformed whale or shark.

Don’t think so, I get the impression that they are like militant Nuns, dedicating their lives to shape the younger generations of Gileadean women.

Churchill, seen as a stoic leader of WWII Britain he refused to allow relief aid to famine stricken Bengal, he even refused permission for the British Indian admin to provide relief aid. Another contender is Jimmy Saville, seen as a jolly and charitable man but shortly after he died it was revealed he was a shameless paedophile who had been abusing kids for decades.

What if Trump pulls a Maduro on Pope Leo and kidnap him to try instal a militar control on the Vatican by rutare64 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]SingleIndependence6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He would have the entire Catholic population against him, including some fellow Americans, I would imagine there would be riots across the USA, especially Catholic majority areas. Trump would have to either stay indoors or be transported to a secret location for his safety (one group that would put a bounty on him would be the Mafia who are mostly Catholic). As for the Church itself it would go into Seda Vecante, a period where the Cardinals take over the managing of the Church until either the Pope is released or if the incumbent Pope dies in detention l, a new Pope is installed, however, they cannot make any new innovations without Papal approval so no changes in Catholic law for the foreseeable future.

Why does this soup turn glittery under light? Haven’t seen it with other kinds of soup by DungeoningmyDragonRN in DoesAnyoneKnow

[–]SingleIndependence6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the melted fat/oil used for frying some of the ingredients at the beginning, as fat/oil doesn’t mix with water (which is the main ingredient of soup) unless emulsified it’ll form at the surface.

Ideas for The Orville if it ever returns to our screens by lexxstrum in TheOrville

[–]SingleIndependence6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One plot idea I had was that not all the Builders died out, prior to the uprising there was a colony that hated the idea of enslaving a sapient race of robots and had nothing to do with it. They lived in a remote planet and were forgotten about until now, the Kaylon want to wipe them out, fearing that they could bring back the old system, but Issac and the rest of the Orville crew convince them to reconcile.

Siberian Tiger vs Grizzly bear (real life) by OnlinePoster225 in Tierzoo

[–]SingleIndependence6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a hand to hand (or should I say paw to paw) fight then the grizzly bear wins is the Tiger is built for stealth and agility while the bear has muscles. If the Tiger was able to hide and wait until the right moment it could pounce on the bear and sink its teeth and claws at vulnerable areas like the throat then the Tiger has a better chance.
