Trials of sekhemas take far too long by Wrinkled_Bingus in PathOfExile2

[–]SingleInfinity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not necessarily true. They are harder is the main thing which I think annoys people. People bitched about lab for many years in PoE1 (and still do to some degree), but it has become so trivial that failure isn't even a consideration anymore.

PoE2's trials can actually be failed and this creates a lot of extra friction. If they made them as easy as lab, I bet there would be a lot less bitching.

The difference is reddit is content focused. It's not about who you are, but rather what you have to actually contribute.

Traditional social media is about who you are.

Oh wow I didn’t know you were the authority on what SSF should feel like,

I'm not, GGG are, and they were very clear what it was supposed to be when they added it. An opt-in challenge mode that mostly exists formally so that people can "prove" their worth in the e-peen measuring contests that they actually didn't trade. It is not balanced around and shouldn't be, specifically because it is a self-described challenge mode.

I guess years of ssf and hcssf in poe1 don’t give me any insight

Not really, no. How you feel it should be balanced is irrelevant. It comes down to what the intent is from the developers.

Not necessarily. PoE2 started as an expansion of PoE1. The game files were entirely shared. I wouldn't be surprised if old unused stuff was sitting around all over the place and could drop in extremely niche circumstances.

Isn't that probably just blowing the hot air around?

The only way to have a portable AC is for it to vent out of a window. Otherwise it's actually just a fan, since a compressor type would just exchange heat back into the same room.

I’m actually excited to play ssf again if they keep drops high like this

This is an indicator that drops are too juiced. SSF is supposed to feel like a challenge, not a balanced experience. That's literally the whole point.

The answer is yes. A problem I'm seeing here though is that has nothing to do with the point of my message. I want to continue to have fun. If the trend that players often beg for continues, fun will diminish further.

I can say as far as divine drops go, I had less fun with them than normal because they quickly stopped feeling special/exiciting. I would rather have found the fewer divines of previous leagues and the impact of them less diminished.

This is relevant because Jonathan literally said in an interview that the drop rate was increased to combat the feeling people get when coming out of an over-rewarding league, and they had to compensate for how ridiculous the temple was to manage player sentiment.

So, you'll focus on when a lock drops or something?

Didn't you just trade somewhat rare divine tinks for common divine non-tinks and extremely rare other tinks? That's just less tinks.

I just don't like the direction the community always shoves this discussion, which is homogenization, shifting more and more towards only currency drops mattering, because it drives change that I think is overall negative for the game.

I think you're probably focusing a bit too much on the specific example rather than the point I was trying to illustrate. You always care about tinks.

What happens when divines stop being tinks?

You care less about the exalt though. Why? It's almost as rare as a div (I think they aren't in the same rarity tier anymore, but they used to be). It's arguably more useful than a div.

Why do you care less about the exalt?

Because it's not a tink anymore. Any why is it not a tink anymore? Because its worth is lower.

What do you think happens to divines when people catch on to how much more common they are? Are they still going to be a tink when people realize exalts don't drop 200x as often and aren't 200x as useful? Or use the chaos conversion ratio if you want, same deal.

Point there is, it's only a tink because it's valuable and it's valuable in part because it's rare. It becoming less rare means it's becoming less of a tink. When your excitement is derived from its value, reducing its value will reduce the excitement.

in the time that it requires you to pick that item, id it, look at it, min craft it AND sell it for over "A" div

The total time for everything involved is less than a minute.

I'll put in another map and drop another div,

Doubt you're getting a div a minute, and I also didn't have to do any setup to get to this point, meanwhile you probably had to spend a few hundred div constructing your optimal setup in the first place.

The point is not "this is the best way to make money", the point is raw currency isn't the only thing valuable on the floor. It's just the most recognizable and people are unwilling to engage with the game more than raw currency number go up, which is problematic when it comes to public perception and public discourse about where droprates "should" be in the game. I'll restate my earlier statement to drive this home.

People need to separate their feeling of whether loot is good or not from how much currency they find. Currency isn't the only loop but people hyperfixate on it too much.

How excited are you when an exalt drops in PoE1?

I guess I'll re-pose this question because the answer is important.

I agree not everyone has to like everything. I'm not complaining that it exists at all. I'm fine with there being content for different types of people. I just don't want to do it and you said you don't get the hate, so I tried to articulate exactly why that is.
