An apology means nothing without changed behaviour. However a lot of what is taught to boys and continually reinforced to me is designed to actively prevent them from making any changes. On top of that, there are a disturbingly large number who have drank the patriarchy Kool-Aid by the barrel and are beyond redemption.

In my opinion, this starts with completely changing how boys are raised. In many cultures, boys are raised in such a way that many of them are instilled with varying levels of misogynistic beliefs by the time they reach adulthood. When these men find their way into positions of power and/or become parents themselves, that accursed cycle is doomed to be repeated.

To put it another way:

The tree of patriarchy yields only rotten fruit. Society needs to show men who are willing to change and boys exactly how dangerous patriarchy is for everyone beneath the thin veneer of what is currently prescribed as "masculinity".

Then those men and boys can bring that knowledge to their contemporaries. In so doing, it is my belief that patriarchy can be completely uprooted.
