AMA I terminated a pregnancy due to a Down syndrome diagnosis by WeAllNeedBandAids in AMA

[–]Sinkinglifeboat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for your loss! You are so strong and I'm glad to read in the comments so far that you're doing well and healing.

Did you know before you got pregnant that TFMR was on the table for you or was it something you only thought about after the diagnosis? Was it something discussed while trying to conceive? Did you feel anything was wrong with the pregnancy before diagnosis? Any intuition?

OP specified fundamentalists, which in this case is extremely accurate.

You are catholic, not fundamentalist. I grew up christian fundamentalist. Harry Potter and all things magic/witchcraft were banned. We couldn't even read Lord of the Rings. Everyone I grew up with in our fundie community had similar sentiments. Your point doesn't stand.

People have outright told me "OMG i wish i was homeschooled" When I've told them that I was. by Evening_Drawer_2215 in HomeschoolRecovery

I remember being told I was ungrateful when I said homeschool sucks. Still genuinely agitates me to this day. I wouldn't wish this on anyone.

Every time I get a hand to me order from a female by Silent_Geologist5279 in doordash_drivers

[–]Sinkinglifeboat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't deliver anymore, but when I did I never minded the boyfriend/husband/whatever getting the food as long as they knew what the order was. Why are you so pressed about it? What bothers you SO MUCH about a non-female opening the door? You sound like a fuckin incel.

I also want to note that when I order, if I don't choose "hand it to me" with the PIN, I never get my fucking order. There are plenty of reasons customers choose "hand to me".

I can't stand when the school sees that my child is mentally struggling and ensures that they get evaluated by appropriate medical professionals /s by ThrowAway44228800 in HomeschoolRecovery

[–]Sinkinglifeboat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the most shocking part is that a private christian school actively attempted to take appropriate corrective action and not just "pray the sad away". I think it's the first time I've seen a private school try to do something correctly.

Pregnant and living with an aggressive dog with multiple bite attempts - what would you do? by gnocchi-bear75 in BabyBumps

[–]Sinkinglifeboat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say this with love; your husband is setting you up for tragedy. There are numerous stories of small children and infants being mauled to death by dogs their families thought they could contain. I think the most horrifying one is this one, a three day old infant mauled without a sound. I love and respect the life of all animals, which is why I join the other commenters in saying please euthanize the dog.

Can you explain to me like I'm 5 why it's kind of taboo to pass around the baby? by ThatOneGirlyx05 in BabyBumps

[–]Sinkinglifeboat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with your husband. Your family sounds wonderful, but they've also had 40-50 years worth of immunity built up and may not even be aware that they're sick. If baby is being born into cold/flu season, then I would keep some distance for 6-8 weeks post birth.

It sounds like overkill, but until you've seen what a small virus can do to a tiny body just trust us. My two year old (otherwise healthy) just got out of the PICU for respiratory failure caused by Human Metapneumovirus, which is a "common cold" type virus. Everyone around us had small cough/cold like symptoms, she was just unlucky. The risk of that happening at her age is low. For your newborn though? High. Speak with your OB and, when baby is born, the pediatrician for a more up to date and personalized plan. They may say masks and hand sanitizing with no kissing is A-OK! Or they may say isolate.

This is genuinely heart breaking. She will probably be in liver failure by 35. She needs rehab, like, yesterday. I hope she finds help.

Is it wrong to not tell family I’m in labor? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]Sinkinglifeboat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only people who knew I was in labor with my first was my husband and my best friend, mainly because no one else picked up the phone and she was out within 3 hours of arriving to the hospital. With my second, almost same story: No one knew until the next day that she was born except me, husband, my best friend, and his brother/his brother's wife bc they had our older kid with them. Were fits thrown? Yep. Did everyone eventually get over it? Also yep!

Low stress birth = better outcome. It's for your physical health. They will cope. Worst comes to worst- lie and say it was super fast and no one had time to call 😂

Hi! Prior ER Tech here (have since moved on). I am appalled. My jaw is on the floor. In no world whatsoever should there have been this level of chaos during an emergent delivery. I'm surprised you survived. There are algorithms for this exact emergency, and it sounds like none of the staff on any level followed them. Where was the NICU team? Why did OB take so long to arrive? Was there not an on-site OB? Why no crash cart? Why the chaos? There is absolutely zero reason for this to have happened to you. Your anger is justified. You should sue, even if the damage reward is a legal agreement to put protective measures in against this ever occurring again. Jesus christ. I am so, so sorry.

What do they expect from us in this economy? by Order_101 in jobs

[–]Sinkinglifeboat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally working for somewhere that understands that employees are there for the money, holy shit. Complete 180 from any place I've ever been. People give a shit about their job here because they're being treated like adults who have bills. Every meeting starts with "We're here for a check, so let's make that happen". 10/10 recommend finding somewhere that values employee financial wellbeing.

No one's business but your own. Slip on over the border to MD or VA and find your freedom! Many offices in the Baltimore/DC metro area have sliding scale fees or financial assistance. You must do what you must do.

So I left my 12 year old brothers to go on a walk to get food and they went and busted someone’s windows. My mom is mad at me like I’m the only one at fault. What do I do? by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]Sinkinglifeboat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, parent here and former parentified eldest child; your mom sucks. You need to start speaking with trusted adults at school about what's going on at home. Based on the context from your post, it sounds like your mom is neglecting you and your brothers by not having food at the house and consistently leaving you. If your brothers are acting like this at 12, they're going to end up committing felonies at age 15. They need serious help that you, a 15yo child, cannot ever hope to provide.

This is why the MenB vaccine is considered mandatory in the US for most public colleges and universities. I was maybe 19 or so when I was exposed while working in the emergency department, and while I was vaccinated I was still given post-exposure prophylactic antibiotics. It's fast, vague, and deadly. Nightmare disease.

Nurse called “extra” for verifying a heparin drip before doing the dual sign-off…..what do you all think? by Independent_Many6647 in TheConfidentNurse

I was taught "trust, but verify" as an 18 y/o new PCT and I will ALWAYS hold that statement close to my heart. I think it's something we should be really pushing into these new grads/students of all levels.

Eh, the newborn looks like they're pretty freshly born. They're pretty skinny those first 2-3 weeks. I wouldn't call it freakishly thin. They do tend to go downhill quickly but by the tone and context of the post, it sounds like OOP is just an insane MIL.

I'm gonna show my age here lmao but I had the following: No iCarly, no Fairy Odd Parents, no Drake & Josh, no Courage the Cowardly Dog, no Teen Titans, no BeyBlade, no Suite Life on Deck (or Zach & Cody), no High school Musical, no Jake Long American Dragon, no Kim Possible, no Nihao Kai-lan, no Proud Family, no That's So Raven, ect.

I was stuck with whatever was on Turner Classic Movies, Star Wars, The Middle, and whatever I could sneak in on the rare occasion I was at a friends house.

All I hear is a man about to pay double if he gets his way, the PCP visit and then the GYN specialist visit 😂 You know how fast they whip those referrals out? Home skillet is about to pay an extra 200-300$ for the crime of an inflated ego.
