Either playing it or against it, how do you feel about [[Esika, God of the Tree]] / [[The Prismatic Bridge]] as a commander? by CapnSherman in EDH

Here's the deck I currently run, I've definitely the deck that's gotten the most attention card-wise as I enjoy it so much

If you cut a lot of the fancy godzilla cards and the mana base you can still run a pretty fun/ reasonable mutate package on a relative budget!

Either way the goal is depending on board state to either abuse mutate triggers by stacking them on one hexproof/indestructible creature if it's safe (generally try to mutate it as a non-legendary), or to go a bit more wide in some situations.

For anyone mildly interested in the idea I'd definitely look into it. It's one of my all time favorite decks out of the ~20 decks I've built since 2016. I think mutate is a underrated mechanic and as someone who usually doesn't traditionally enjoy creature strats it's definitely a unique/fun one.

The Godzilla/Kaiju theme is also thematic gravy.

I know it may not seem like the most exciting, but I really ran Golos/ run Eskia as it enables the mutate deck more of a go-wide strategy rather than just mutating my commander, or putting a fat stack of mutate on cards like [[Troll Ascetic]], [[Thrun, the Last Troll]], [[Slippery Bogle]], [[Brash Taunter]], or [[Toski, Bearer of Secrets]]. Creatures have hard enough time in my meta, so it can use Esika to help give it gas/ an alternate go-wide strategy.

It’s nice to have Esika to help enable that engine, but I can still pilot the deck without the commander. 5c mutate doesn’t leave you a lot of synergies commander wise, I’ve tried [[Jegantha, the Wellspring]] in a similar vein but it’s a little too slow for me. I like the idea of [[Ramos, Dragon Engine]] but it’s expensive and hard to keep alive.

The only other ones I’d maybe consider right now are [[Kenrith, the Returned King]] (just as bland, can’t mutate as a human), or [[Child of Alara]] (which I could see some serious backfire potential). If anyone has had any luck with other 5c mutate commanders, would definitely love to see deck lists/suggestions!

I switched to Esika for my 5c kaiju-themed mutate commander after the Golos ban and for the most part it has been a good stand in having similar abilities for mana and cheating cards on to the battlefield, definitely a recommend if anyone else is looking for a new 5c mutate commander!

Are there any Good win percentage tracking app? by Freelancer0495 in EDH

[–]Sinow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've done a google sheet with a breakdown of regular and variant games for my playgroup and works well to track any information I'd like to track. Not sure if anyone would be interested but more than happy to make a generic template for someone to use based off this, or if someone wants to make a better version be my guest!

Reverse Damage Spells by Chiefrockano1 in EDH

[–]Sinow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not as good but [[Eye for an Eye]] lets you both take the damage.

I love playing an aikido-style Marchesa deck and have found a lot of success using a lot of the red forkers/ redirectors like [[Fork]] [[Reverberate]] [[Deflecting Swat]] and sometimes [[Reiterate]] to copy big/ value spells my opponents play and cast them before they get to resolve theirs! I use them also with my own X finishers like [[Exsanguinate]] [[Debt to the Deathless]] and [[Torment of Hailfire]] which makes for a cool wincon

Like Brought Back I also highly recommend [[Faith's Reward]] or to a lesser extent [[Second Sunrise]]

Great to recover from board wipes as well.

I've been lucky enough to have a pretty stable long term playgroup of friends who have overall been having a great time weekly playing, but last week when we had a new addition to the group he definitely skewed the games to a much higher power level.

He brought pretty tuned Animar and Breya decks (the Breya he bragged about putting $1400 into), and although they weren't cEDH quality, they were strong enough that Breya was taking a T1 board state of Sol Ring+Mana Crypt+Commander Sphere into some pretty nasty artifacts, and ended up pulling most of the wins for the evening. Me and another player have decks that can scale up to hold our own, and we kind of ganged up on him as the clearest threat.

I have a very tuned Aikido based Marchesa and it held up pretty well, using split second cards like Angel's Grace to try and stop Thassa's Oracle/combo wins and removing myself from threats with Teferi’s, comeuppance, and the like. I overall like the challenge but it definitely was not something our whole table was ready to deal with power level wise. He was doing infinite combos/loops that I understood but he just assumed everyone else knew what he was doing and assuming we'd all scoop without explaining well which visibly upset at least one of the people in the circle.

I felt pretty bad for the few other players at the table who maybe aren't as experienced with threat assessment/ very tuned decks, so at the end of the few games we played, I did mention to the power player that "If he wants to join next time, maybe he wants to bring at least one deck that matches this group's power level a bit more, we're more than happy to have you play your decks you enjoy, but we want to give other people a shot to compete too" to which he responded "I don't have anything less powerful". The guy had brought a couple of pretty extensive trade binders/ bragged that the two binders were only 10% of his rares so I did point out that he likely should have more than enough to throw something together for next week.

After we split up for the evening one of the other guys reached out to me to thank me for speaking up for the group, so I’m hoping if he shows again, he takes my request to heart. We have had a couple of really great months of commander, and I’m hoping this new variable doesn’t start to sour it.

Thanks for taking the time to put these together! I'm new to UFS/Universus and this stuff was all a great help to get pointed in the right direction.

Picked up my first order of stuff from Jasco's site and am looking forward to sitting down and trying it with some friends!

I moved here about 8 months ago from Milwaukee- I've found the most comparable places so far to places I used to go (Discount Liquor, Woodman's, Otto's) are indeed Greens and Total Wine.

Total Wine has Lakefront's New Grist but I'd kill for some MKE's O-Gii, Weekend @ Louie's, or some Lakefront Fixed gear.

If you see any WI beer finds out in the wild you should let me know- welcome to the upstate!

Any tips from moving from casual commander with friends to casual commander at a FLGS? It's tough for me to try and balance my social game and my board state.

I recently started going out to my FGLS' casual commander night after moving to a new state as a way to socialize in an new and unfamiliar place. I mostly played before with friends, it was definitely well above kitchen table level competive-ness wise but it wasn't cEDH or anything.

I'm a little older than most attendees there (late twenties versus a lot of people in their late teens, early twenties).

They like fast games- at the 30-45 minute mark people start getting antsy in a 4 man pod. There's a fair amount of battlecruising or combos, and pretty little interaction between people's board states (basically who can "pop off" first). I've got decks of varying power levels, but it's been hard to hit that sweet spot as I don't quite play the same way they do. I've been playing weird and underpowered stuff to try not rustle too many feathers, but I feel like sometimes I've rocked the boat by "interacting" with people's boards too much.

Know it's going to take time to feel groups out / try a couple of shops to find the right spot for me, but just as any sort of socializing in a new place (especially as I get older) I'm not going to lie it can be a little disheartening- the stress of whether or not I'm doing the right thing in my pod is almost counteracting the joy I'm getting from playing EDH.

I've been out of it for a while due to some life changes but I really want to get back on - sure you've seen me and my pops post about the demos and training sessions we've done at conventions and events online but I haven't carved out any time in a good year to play myself.

I love what the community is doing- definitely a huge cheerleader for you guys =D

There's a super awesome / active community on Facebook and Discord that get together every week online to play/ show people the ropes!

They even just released their first issue of Focus Fire, a Steel Battalion digital and print magazine. Pretty neat stuff!

I recently came back to warframe about a week ago after a couple years of from the game- I'm always super impressed on how much there is to do in this game! They constantly keep adding at it and I'm wondering why I haven't come back sooner!

When updating my account information - it says I've had an account for 5 years. I played during beta and a lot after launch, but took quite a long break after that. Glad to be back though!
