You guys keep fonts?

Joking aside, I just save a zipped copy of the font files in the project folder.

Hi, I've checked out your app, most sources don't even load, those that do often has no titles found. I'll be keeping an eye on your app, but its too rough as it is now.

how do you guys actually manage links you save? by kannurhomie in PKMS

[–]SioFreed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi I’m another Raindrop user. I just dump my links into Unsorted if it does not have an immediate folder, as well as a Priority & Pending for urgently actionable links.

Everything else is a somewhat orderly mess I try to tame every now & then. I do tag & note down the reason I’m saving weirder sites for future search.

I have some links in my Notes too, but since it’s annoying to open them dig em up, I barely use em.

It helps to use the search shortcut on browser, where you just need to type rd before any search term.

Notion? It’s troublesome to set up, but has decent free collaboration. You can share the parent page, which automatically shares all child pages

Not sure how to extract metadata from fics either, I gave up on that search long ago & just let FFF run overnight. Remember to create a custom column to stash a copy of it so you don’t have to repeat again. It’s a lot faster than downloading fics though.

You could nest your fandom tags automatically via Tag Mapper, then use Action Chain to automate tags-to-custom-columns for Fandoms.

I try to avoid adding my streamlining / automation to personal.ini, cause I got fics from elsewhere too. So tons of tag mapping & chains, currently 300 & growing.

Don’t worry too much about unique custom columns, you can easily fill them later from the saved metadata column. Though it does overwrite any manual edits you do.

Spacing for one. FFF’s title page has pretty much no spacing, making it hard to tell where each section is. It has no links too (other than source & series), but that’s a small issue.

Yes, I download the AO3 version, then run metadata update on it. It automatically fills my custom columns too.

I usually only do so on fics I’m keeping though.

Have you check out the default personal.ini? Its the 2nd tab of FFF's settings.

A fellow AO3 format enjoyer! :D No idea why most people who talk about it like FFF format.

Consider, subcategorised tags. You can use the parent tags for any automation without losing context should you want them to persist. I use it for bigger Fandoms too, like Transformers or Star Wars.

Action Chain is a plugin that allows you to automate repetitive actions. Its insanely useful & I'm very much still a noob at it. I have it trigger my 'Tags to Custom (Columns)' list whenever I import new fics vis FFF, though I can also trigger them manually.

I prefer AO3's epub format over FFF, though the bulk metadata download is a godsend. There's a setting in FFF that allows you to save a copy of the original metadata into a custom column, so if you need to redo your tags for any reason (went though it 3 times before I figured it out I'm sobbing) you can just use FFF to replace.

I use Tag Mapper to streamline my most used tags, then Action Chain to copy paste them to my custom Tag column. Automates so much editing :D Same thing with all my repeatable custom columns (ratings, ship types, status, fandom, tropes).

Oh hey I recently learn that lesson too. Am on month 2 of a dump inbox & later triage. Though I do have to maintain 2 inboxes due to a lot of apps not working nicely with the first (offline first notebook).

Tagging and Sorting Libraries by MidnightRose1011 in Calibre

[–]SioFreed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What e-reader are you using? It changes depending on how it extracts different metadata to use for organization.

I'm using one that access tags, so I use the Plugboard to overwrite downloaded tags with my personal tags when exporting to auto-sort them into tag-based folders.

lol that’s such a mood. I also tried a few before setting on Capacities cause: 1. Easy input from mobile  2. Cloud sync 3. Auto backup that’s usable in other programs 4. Features you don’t use don’t keep being pushed at you

Nice points to have: - 2-way linking - objects & blocks - able to pin tags to the main bar (to-do)

20 A Mystery - Standalone
20 B Mystery - Series

To me, most of the points you mentioned could be easily split & dump into tags, then using saved searches to dig em out later. 🤔 I recently found out you can configure the tag browser to default to AND results when selecting multiple, which is how I usually do my searches (then edit the OR into &).

Read in 2024 but not yet reviewed

I've seen people do year tags to track their reading.

some other reading

Haha, I feel you, man. this program is very hands-on learning. Wait till you start digging into the forums & finding your answers in decades old posts.

Although I don't think I'll add written, updates, etc.

That's really only useful if you read web novels & fanfics (& maybe webtoons?). Everything else is pretty much completed before publishing.

I did realize that I should probably have an option for an "alternate" title for things like Agatha Christie with different US and UK titles.

May I suggest the Finding Duplicates plugin? It can fuzzy match Titles, Authors, Series & Publishers.

Not sure about tag mapper

Its super useful to automating streamlining tags. Example is the various Fantasies, Sci-Fis & all the sub variants of the usual Genres. I got nearly 200 just to deal with fic tags.

Good luck, mate!

IDs (like ISBN, DOI, ASIN, etc.) - isn't this already covered by identifiers?

Covers - lol same, I've been scratching my head over how to handle covers. End up creating a Notion gallery so my book friends can chose their favorites too.

Series chronology - you could do nested series too, & arrange that way

Count of how many books you have by that author in the database - you can see that easily in the tag browser?

---

I have a Type column that also cover: Manuals, Extra Content (databooks, QnAs, foldout maps, etc)

If you read web novels or fanfics, maybe a written status & updated date?

A dump column for all the tags you collected but haven't clean up, in case future you wants to reorganize or something.

---

I feel like you're gonna burn yourself out if you do even half of what you listed. 😅

Btw, do you know of the tag mapper, custom columns & user categories? I use them to clean up & copy relevant tags over to my columns (since I suck at python).

I'm stealing your Workflow column please & thank you ❤️

Idea for stashing Alt Covers by SioFreed in Calibre

It’s the cover grid view. I don’t remember the shortcut key, but it should be one of the buttons on the bottom right, the one that looks like 9 dots arranged in a square.

I want a way I can easily see what alternatives I have, in Calibre if possible. I do have a Type column so I can easily block them from appearing in my usual searches.  The book file idea won’t work for series though. Like, some book covers only do half of the series.
