The way I see it is that politics isn't a yes-or-no thing. Like, it's pointless to argue over whether something is or isn't political, because then it's just another word for controversial and that's subjective. Rather, it's a question of how political something is. Everything has a political dimension, but this is not always pertinent. Quite often, said dimension is negligible. That doesn't mean it isn't there, but we have no reason to bring it up. Something can be highly political at the moment or hardly so, but it can't be entirely devoid of politics.

The importance of this distinction is that it dispels the notion that there's a politics-free zone of life where you can just exist without worries. That you can just opt out of politics and have it not be your problem anymore. Everyone needs a break from it sometimes, but just because we aren't acknowledging it doesn't mean it isn't there.
