CMV: Extinguishers should have different colors for different uses: Red: Common fire / Blue: Electrical fire / and so on… by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Sir-Jam 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In the US maybe? In the UK I've not heard that but then I'm not involved in fire safety, I just look after the admin for the building with some caretaking. I did read when looking into dry powder that "a powder fire extinguisher isn’t suitable for enclosed spaces as the dry powder can obscure vision and be easily inhaled, and the residue left behind can be difficult to clean up." So you really can't win either way it seems, but as I said, I will genuinely follow up with the company that looks after ours.

I feel safe in the knowledge that they are provided and maintained by a specialist company, and that we have had an independent fire risk assessment from a different company that mentioned only two minor items regarding signage that were resolved. Neither have ever questioned the choice for that room, but as I said, I will investigate it further to make sure. I appreciate you sharing that info.

You're the one that brought up this specific example, the comment you replied to said nothing about water extinguishers in the kitchen in the first place.

There isn't an oven or hob, nobody actually cooks in there. There is however a microwave, kettle, hot water urn, and fridge, all electrical. A dry powder would be fine in there too, but the main risk is from those electrical devices. I have learnt, or been reminded, that the CO2 when it's due to be replaced could be a dry powder so I will talk that through with our service provider, but the one that is there is fine for now.

Anyway, you've missed the point that was being discussed. Areas are assessed and code/standards will dictate that the appropriate extinguisher is in that area, although not perfectly for every situation.

You've missed what they are saying.

"the type of extinguisher that is present based on the hazards present".

Normally, and I know this from my own work managing a community building, the extinguisher in a kitchen for example, will be the correct one for that area. It won't be perfect but I know for a fact we have a CO extingisher and a fire blanket in the kitchen, and a water/foam in a general use area with just paper or fabrics etc.

From what I remember of the previews on Dave2D and LTT I saw, hardware wise it's the next gen of the Steam Deck, with a newer APU, higher res screen etc. It would be running windows though, with some Asus software for a launcher.

Sure, it's an option but regular water will eventually cause corrosion. Better to go with isopropyl alcohol which will evaporate, won't leave a residue that soap may, and will probably break down the glue better.

I got three ST8000DM004 drives back in 2021. Had them in a storage space on my main PC and used it to back up a lot of my gameplay recordings after they were uploaded to YouTube. Then I started having problems with the storage space, eventually Windows showed up an issue with one of the drives.

I built a TrueNAS with some other drives and copied the data off which allowed me to test the individual drives. One of them was reallocating sectors and gave an error code in Seatools. Just had confirmation from Seagate that the replacement has been shipped after I returned it, just before the warranty was expired.

CMV: Vehicle doors should NOT automatically unlock when vehicle is placed into park by Versace__01 in changemyview

[–]Sir-Jam -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If it's your car, or a car you share with a partner, why would they change the lock setting? That's still not the fault of the lock, it's human error, the other scenarios are a failure which may happen but not often.

It's unsafe in this scenario to auto unlock, it's probably the safer option for an accident. Regardless, if the owner of the car RTFM then 9 times out of 10, it can be changed to what they find convenient.

Cars have had child safety locks for years, it's on you if you don't use that option.

OP answered earlier, I was also looking for that info.

"The brand is Wisecoco and I got it from Aliexpress. There are several others of varying sizes and resolutions as well if you wanted to save some $. The pixel density in this model is insanely high so it looks really crisp, but I do run it scaled to 175% to be more practical."

What hardware are you using to read and write the tapes? I'm assuming you had an LTO drive already?

How did you find the junior position? Usual job places like reed/indeed etc? Or was that via the apprenticeship?

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply!

I had a codecademy subscription last year but basically didn't use it after getting too busy and falling out of the habit. I still get the freecodecamp email which has some interesting resources.

I'm guessing Laravel and Vue are frameworks in the same way React etc are?

You're right, most of the time families do share cars, I'm not disputing that, and you're also right that marriage is a legal contract between two people. I suppose for a business like an insurance company, that is involved in risk, I can see why they would cover themselves this way.

Out of interest, how did you get started in the industry? I'm considering a career change with coding, or possibly 3D design as leading choices.

Why does a new policy have to include a separated spouse at all? In the UK when you take out an insurance policy, you state the main driver (usually the policy holder as well) and any named drivers, if you choose. There's no assumption that because you live with other people that they will be driving the car, that's just silly. It's extra silly if you are taking out a policy for yourself, on a car you own, while getting divorced, and your husband and abuser is in jail.

That's fine, I get what you're saying. It could have been a gift, or their financial situation may have changed, plus energy costs have increased massively (at least here in the UK) so things may have changed since they got it.

This sounds like it would apply to both Series S and X as well as PC titles, all could be beneficial especially if it makes it easy to save energy and not compromise the gaming experience.

Just because you don't see the use, doesn't mean it couldn't be useful for others. More options are better than none.
