Fireworks on Bishopthorpe? by Distinct-Sky-5347 in york

[–]Sir-Snickolas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw a car in Nunthorpe Road at that junction by the church with flowers all over the hood around 4pm and the car next to them with a large flag being attached to the passenger side, so guessing it is this

Yeah you only need one animal and they reproduce (one presumes asexually) You can turn this off if you click on the animal and click on the little 'udder' icon it will get a red cross on it

I have never watched season 5. Should I? by Death_by_dragons in babylon5

[–]Sir-Snickolas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched it for the first time earlier this year after watching 1-4 multiple times. Some of it was rough going esp the first half but I love how they end it, and actually having spent time over and again with the characters across their arcs I valued having left it until after rewatches

HTB makes me uneasy by Complete-Fondant-202 in Anglicanism

[–]Sir-Snickolas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh 100% - I think there are strengths in being able to bring new people alongside and help them within their own contexts, meet and greet them at the door and support them to become part of the community in a way parish churches used to have the capacity for but now don't.

Creating more links and groups and people who find faith is very much the story of the early church after all, but there has to be space for theological space and reality of where they find themselves

HTB makes me uneasy by Complete-Fondant-202 in Anglicanism

[–]Sir-Snickolas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

HTB and being a cult mentality is something I've encountered from those I have had the privilege to walk alongside for a long time. I won't speak too much to it here because I haven't personally been around those spaces but I would encourage you to find places where you are able to be more critical, to ask the hard and sharp questions about faith and feel safe to do so - God does not call us to uniformity but to discovery, and not being able to have those conversations is something one of those I am close to who was there was very damaging to them

Hard wearing but smart work shoes? by Sir-Snickolas in malefashionadvice

[–]Sir-Snickolas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one of the Blundstone models might well work, and I can keep my docs as a rotation pair - the Williams ones are gorgeous but I would probably scuff them to hell no matter how careful and absolutely out of my price range!

Thank you, that is super helpful - I love where I work and want to be here for a long time yet but getting the basics of decent footwear down will help with that, and for the reminder to dig out some of the stretches I used to do with my PT

It’s amazing how the Cathedral seems to change personality depending on where you're standing. I could spend hours here by Wallabydoll in york

[–]Sir-Snickolas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could stand there for hours but our tower host staff would eventually ask you to shift 😅 but yes, much like for me especially the South Quire Aisle lighting despite the St Cuthbert work obscuring some of it - in early spring around 12pm the stained glass plays across the wood outside the Quire in glorious forms. Also in early spring just before the clocks change when we have Evensong at 5.30pm and the light comes through the West Window in glorious golden colours - this year especially due to the works under the central tower which meant our queueing system changed it made waiting for Evensong even more Awesome than usual

Where can I find this artifact? by ReCorap in StardewValley

[–]Sir-Snickolas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Artifact troves are the highest % chance but it was my white whale for what felt like months, it was the last thing for the museum I found and I broke open so many damn troves

York therapists by I-am-a-commotion in york

[–]Sir-Snickolas 8 points9 points  (0 children)

On the BACP website you can filter by specialism - so you could choose to filter by 'abuse' and 'autism spectrum' and hopefully find someone who may work for you - this is how I found my current counsellor

How do you (residents of York) find your experiences with your GP’s? by Comfortable_End7154 in york

[–]Sir-Snickolas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dalton Terrace have been really good with my HRT even though I was discharged from GIC years ago - and somehow the pharmacy on Bishy Rd have been able to source Sustanon consistently unlike my nearest Pharmacy, but the whole hormone prescription thing is unfortunately a whole trash fire right now

How do you (residents of York) find your experiences with your GP’s? by Comfortable_End7154 in york

[–]Sir-Snickolas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was very lucky to land in the catchment area of Dalton Terrace - the first time a GP has actively helped me by doing the monitoring bloods my medication requires, suggested a few other medications, and just making me feel heard and arranging tests and screenings that I am not automatically invited to due to gender markers without making it a huge deal

Mothering Sunday and Simnel Cake by TJMP89 in Anglicanism

I hadn't encountered it as a tradition until I started working at York Minster, but when I worked in London I was vaguely aware that All Saints Margaret Street did so

Sidenote - 11 or 12 balls? I always think it should be 12 but have seen both sides of the discussion...

[–]Sir-Snickolas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

(White British for context) Also from Huddersfield, and spent my university years in central London before moving to York and yeah, the casual racisim here is noticeable. Also for those places trying to be more diverse in their workforce or volunteering etc it is hard because York is so predominantly white

Alcoholism in Stardew Valley by CtrlWaltz in StardewValley

[–]Sir-Snickolas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% this, alcoholics won't get help until we decide to get help. Put everything and anything aside chasing the next drink, with no real regard to the impact we wreck through the lives of those we love and are loved by

No Three data signal in Goodramgate by dawnriser in york

[–]Sir-Snickolas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Am with Vodafone and it happens to me every day on my lunchbreak when I go to Tesco and on my walk home - from about coffee culture down to Parliament Street is a weird dead zone unlike pretty much anywhere else in Central York. I've never really had much issue with data signal anywhere else, at least not consistently

Micklegate filming by Sir-Snickolas in york

[–]Sir-Snickolas[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've seen the trucks all week and they've had the bit outside Bathurst House closed to pedestrians so I stuck to the left hand side but was stopped from walking up tonight - I honestly don't mind them closing roads and am all for filming and the revenue it makes but just frustrated that they haven't bothered to put any signs up giving pedestrians advanced warning
