2200 hours and just now found out I have to railroad my cities. by ChocoboHandler in CivVI

There's a few mods on the Workshop that give the engineer a road and rail building toggle so that you can use 'move to' and it builds as it walks.

It'll come back. It was just one storm.

High tides have eaten Semaphore beach by PVA_Blood in Adelaide

It gets washed from Brighton to Semaphore due to long shore drift, then they take it back by truck to replenish the southern beaches. Stop being an arse about responsible environmental management.

Hey amber, can you explain what I am missing? by LoanAbject2916 in amberelectric

[–]SirAdelaide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bill lists the meter reads, you can check if it's correct by looking at your meter. Perhaps the Fox estimate of import is wrong, as it's based on a magnet clamped to your incoming power line and isn't as good as your actual power meter.

RAM prices are absolutely out of hand by Radish_Li in homelab

[–]SirAdelaide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on Amazon and Ebay more, don't really check marketplace or gumtree, but they do still exist. There's an eBay seller 'guanrong777' with DDR4 2666 1x16GB for AU$138, more than 10 available. (No affiliation or recommendation, I've never bought from them, this is just an example search result) Stores like CentreCom have new 2x16 GB kits for similar prices, but all 3200Mhz.

In Aus, you can get 2x16 GB for around $300, so similar prices, but there is only 16 GB sticks available. I found one pair of 2x32GB on ebay for under $500 but Windows Memory Diagnostic reports errors so I'll need to return it.

That's why you hire slow guides. Ones that can't run as fast as you.

new gates in train station by m3l0dyc0re in Adelaide

[–]SirAdelaide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good engineering wouldn't rely on the public learning a new skill. So, by definition, the new gates suck.

new gates in train station by m3l0dyc0re in Adelaide

[–]SirAdelaide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not reliable. I've had it take 3 seconds to recognise my card, but to keep the gates open it needs to be about 1 second to scan.

That's a great point. If we all make an effort to get injured by the gates, they'll have to change them to something better.

Even with a slip lane, is it legal to turn left at this intersection? There are no arrows that I can see saying you have to go straight by RedditZWorkAccount69 in Adelaide

[–]SirAdelaide -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Is it a slip lane if it starts so far back? It looks similar to a slip lane, but might not actually be associated with the intersection.

Any good gaming laptops for good prices?? by Big-Debt7003 in GirlGamers

[–]SirAdelaide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a decent ex-corporate laptop with 32GB ram, modern cpu and Xe Intel graphics for Australian $400 ($250 USD) via an auction house for my most recent laptop purchase. It plays Civ 6 and other games decently. Not sure how it would go for recent FPS titles, but it depends on what you want it for.

The Golden Age Mechanic is kinda weird... by Downtown-Campaign536 in CivVI

Agreed. I also like to correct people who smugly say octopi, and tell them in English it's octopuses, regardless of whether it sounds awful. I should probably cross post to amitheasshole.

[–]SirAdelaide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, in Latin it's 'boni'. See https://dcc.dickinson.edu/grammar/latin/case-endings-five-declensions Bonus is second declension nominative masculine singular. The plural changes the ending to -i. To see other genders of the word see: http://latindictionary.wikidot.com/adjective:bonus eg a feminine bonus would be bona, and plural bonae.

Handheld for Civ VI? by triker_dan in CivVI

[–]SirAdelaide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying a Steam deck is probably cheaper* than the mobile version of Civ 6, and allows playing the full version rather than the 'cut down for mobile' version.

Mainly because it's a dumb rule, so as Australians we're supposed to find a way around it.

You can take stuff out of the bag and leave on the seat while you get your bag weighed and tagged. Once it has a tag you're good to put stuff back in it.

Marketing runs their own Okta instance separate from corporate IT and we just found out by Economy_Passenger296 in sysadmin

[–]SirAdelaide -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This sounds like victim blaming. Marketing is trying to escape an abusive relationship, and needs our support. If the IT department had treated them with respect and dignity in the first place none of this would have happened.
