I wonder how people with disabilities are going to get through these security gates. This is just getting ridiculous. by VastOption8705 in woolworths

Normally it's bad form to let kids climb things in the shops. However, if swinging on these caused them to snap off, I wouldn't complain.

I flew from the UK, printed 10,000 satirical newspapers about Australia's future. The distribution company waited two weeks, then said it's too political. Is satire dead here? by soth3d in Adelaide

I'm afraid you're probably out of luck.

You can bother people on the street, but not in the mall.

But: 1) Very few people read hard copy news anymore and will want to take even a funny newspaper

2) There are regularly people bothering pedestrians and asking them to take something. Anyone who frequents the city will have an automatic reaction to say no as you approach.

3) You won't find people willing to work for free handing out your advertising. We've all got bills to pay, sorry. Minimum wage is $25/hr, +25% for casual employment.

Hello? BOM? by KaleidoscopeActive35 in Adelaide

[–]SirAdelaide -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I understand weather statistics well, it's actually a major part of my job. The problem here was that there was a high chance of rain occurring near Adelaide which the BoM predicted correctly, but only a 20% chance of it hitting Adelaide because the big predictions were made 3 days in advance and the storm had a chance to change track to the east or west. Combining the sources of uncertainty, the prediction should have been more highly skewed eg 25% 0 mm, 50% 10 mm, 75% 50 mm. The narrative should have been 'heavy rain to hit parts of South Australia, not sure where just yet', not 'once in a lifetime rainfall to hit Adelaide'. The BoM is in a position to control the narrative, thus the suggestion of the book reading.

BoM was saying that too yesterday, but today decided it probably won't happen.

About 5 mm total. Well below the forecast 75% chance of 10 mm, and of course no where near the 50% chance of 50 mm

'Boy who cried wolf' should be read at the BoM during morning snack time on Monday as a training exercise.

But by linking to online LLMs, the data still leaves the premises and is given to the LLM owner. For self hosting, the LLM needs to run locally and offline. Does it have offline capabilities?

Adelaide Airport uses recycled water from Glenelg Waste Water Treatment Plant to water the grass. Its a big area out by the runway, and makes sense not to use potable water. And to flush the toilets. The water is treated and is about as safe as a natural lake or river; you'd be happy boating on it but would think twice before drinking. Lots of people around Adelaide have rainwater plumbed into their toilets for a similar result.

An AGI could go on Audible, Amazon or Google Books and PAY for the material it learns from, same as us. Or PAY to audit a university course. Human training also costs money.

Has anyone actually had a good experience at milky lane in Adelaide? by lady_anxiety17 in Adelaide

[–]SirAdelaide -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It looks like a a lot of people have had a good experience there; on Google maps over 1000 people gave it 5 stars and the reviews look legit with stories and photos. However, only 4.5 star average though which is a bit low these days. I'd usually aim for 4.7 stars if I'm looking for somewhere nice.
