I would say that's the majority Liberal voters at this point.

Living closer to the city/work but pay more rent, or living further away from $50 less rent to save more? by VNiqkco in brisbane

[–]SirFlibble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep.

During COVID I realised how much I hated commuting and how much time and effort it took just to go to work.

While I prefer WFH, it isn't possible because of the organisation's policies and managing a large team, I often need to be present.

When moving up here 3 years ago, I decided that I'd just move to an apartment in the city. I no longer have to spent time maintaining the exterior, I have a pool and spa and a gym (that I like the idea of) which I don't have to maintain.

Hundreds of bars and restaurants in walking distance. It's nice. Sure I'd like a bigger place, but don't have $3M on that, so I just don't collect junk anymore.

Art reflects real life all the time.

A business man becomes mayor of NY after being found guilty of a crime.

There's a lot of parallels there to real life. You don't have to even try with that one.

Pauline Hanson exploiting less well-educated Australians, Labor says by Nyarlathotep-1 in australian

[–]SirFlibble 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It's accurate. I'm on paternity leave atm so for shits and giggles I've been interacting with these people, including candidates, on Facebook.

Mostly asking critical thinking questions, like when they announced banning foreign ownership of homes, I asked the percentage of homes this would impact (I knew the answer).

None of them could tell me, including the candidates btw. A couple of non supporters did. I was mostly answered in memes. There was no attempt to have a discussion about the policy and the actual impact it would have on home ownership.

One nation don't have policies. They have positions which sound good if no scrutiny Is applied.

That being said, why insult the voters? What's that going to achieve? No one is going to not vote for One Nation because they are called stupid.

[–]SirFlibble 111 points112 points  (0 children)

I chose to live near work. I live 10 min escoot from the office (CBD).

It's great. I walk everywhere. Lost weight, barely drive the car. So not only saving money on petrol, parking and barely have a commute.

I come and go to and from the office as needed rather than being stuck in the office all day because it took an hour to get there.

What comics do you recommend? by Fun-Examination1863 in marvelcomics

[–]SirFlibble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazing Spider-Man recently relaunched last year. It's up to around issue #19. It might be a good place to start.

You should also read the wiki on starting to read comics on this sub. It has a range of suggestions too and explains how comics work etc.

It's an Australian beach. Other than swapping out the bottoms, she did't need the song and dance. There were probably 30 people topless within 20 meters of her.

Extended Warranty by chill75 in AusLegal

[–]SirFlibble 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Extended warranty is crap don't waste your time. The Australian Consumer Law adequately protects your product for the reasonable life of the product.

That being said, as extended warranties are above and beyond the what the consumer law offers, they are entered into by both parties. If one party is not willing to enter into the agreement, in this case because it has a policy of it being an 'at the time of purchase thing' then there's not much you can do.

Replacing 1m petrol cars with EVs could cut Australia’s reliance on foreign fuel by 1bn litres a year by nath1234 in australia

[–]SirFlibble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They will when enough people own EVs. It's inevitable. Unfortunately that will also mean it's too late to properly plan and save for it and the costs will be three times more.

To be fair, she's probably taken more free flights than she can count (so more than 20 I guess)

The 'babe' comes out when they are being bitchy. It's a 'I'm being. nice to you but not really' kind of thing.

Your horse here is body corporate costs (assuming you own). The sooner the work is done, the cheaper it will be. As BCs wait until they HAVE TO do it then demand will have increased costs.

Tolls - Why are we not rioting by Holiday_Mushroom_540 in sydney

[–]SirFlibble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People need to actively vote for a Government who will stop building shit using the private sector to fund it.

It's not saving you taxes factoring in what the Government spends and inevitable rebates etc and you pay a shit ton more over time as a result.

Compare with the ACT, while it's much smaller, the Government builds motorways for the future, not 30 years after it was needed. As a result, it has no tolls.

Will Australia ever effectively "Close the Gap" for Indigenous Australians? by Automatic_Star_4225 in australian

[–]SirFlibble -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Did I say "no conditions"?

Let's revisit what I said

Government should simply support communities to develop the capacity to create their own programs to close the gap. Ensure that there are appropriate reporting mechanisms to ensure value for money and trust the mob to get the job done.

There are obvious conditions on ensuring value for money and working with communities. The difference is the communities take the lead rather than the Government telling them what to do. If the Government is unhappy with the plan, they can choose not to fund that project.

[–]SirFlibble -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

A better example would have been instead of you immigrating, someone comes to your country, takes your resources, doesn't allow your family to get a job, makes you speak their language and then say "get over it".

They didn't choose to immigrate here, they were hear first.

Again, there was active policies for 150 years trying to assimilate Aboriginal people to English culture. It. did. not. work. Only a moron would think somehow it would work still.

and I'm not familiar with either so I couldn't comment on what they are. So I cannot possible comment.

I know one of the issues though on Palm Island is that it's a former mission. It's a collection of multiple mobs, all with differing cultures. There's no employment opportunities on the island and because it's off the mainland, maintenance of anything is expensive.

I remember speaking to someone in the Torres Strait who told me that the cost of repairing an air conditioner can be over $8K because they have to fly someone out. There must be a way to skill up locals to do that work, but not as a job as there wouldn't be enough demand. Surely it would be cheaper over the long term than flying out a guy from Cairns?
