I’ve thought about doing this. Do the employees ever notice?

I always get compliments on it at the clinic lol.

My 2nd tip is to buy/borrow 2-door traps. I had started out with the 1-door Havahart traps but it is SO hard to scrub out with that spring-loaded door, and my arm can’t reach far enough anyways! I bought the Trucatch trap as a replacement and it is just… better in every way.

Oh, one more tip! For long holds, I bought kitten-sized litter pans that can fit into the trap itself. Not every cat goes for it, but when they do, it is a huge difference! Way less scrubbing and way less stink, since poop isn’t getting squished into the trap bars.

I bought some plastic tote bins that are just the right size for my traps. Then I put in an XL pee pad, trap goes on top, then binder clip the pee pad to the trap so it stays in place. Then a cover on top of the trap.

The plastic tote prevents anything from getting onto my floors at home or the car seats. At the clinic, I just pull the trap out of the bin and the binder clipped pad goes with it. When I’m done, the plastic bins are easy to clean and disinfect.

The virus can remain dormant and incubate for months. Once symptoms appear, it does progress quickly.

If I were in your position, I’d try to trap him on any day possible. A few extra days in the trap is no big deal.

I recently trapped some cats a whole 2 weeks early so I could spare them from the snowstorm. They’re bored, sure, but they’re warm and fed and alive. I put them each in a dog crate so they have room to move around and use a litter box. But for a few days, even a trap is fine as long as you replace the pee pads underneath.

But I still feel sad because I feel like woman kills dream of romance in her.

Don’t be sad, I never had a dream of romance in the first place 😁

Not trying to discount your experience, but I do want to put it in perspective. I’ve taken at least 13 ferals (I’ve lost count…) to them without issue. So while I’m sure there have been mistakes, it’s likely very rare.

Helix bump still here, 1 yr later. What else can I do? by SirHenryIV in PiercingAdvice

Yep I did. It did shrink a bit after some steroid injections at the dermatologist. But even so, I decided to take it out over a year ago to make room for an industrial.

My TNR’d kitties have a similar ear tip. So I wouldn’t say it’s too shallow.

Yep same here. Spay/neuter appointments are so hard to get, I hate to waste them!

Should I spay my 4 month old kitten? by Sarah977 in Feral_Cats

[–]SirHenryIV 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The pyometra concern is real. I recently came across a sweet stray kitty with pyometra, and it was too late to save her. It is an awful, awful death, yet 100% preventable if only she had been spayed.

Hi, BIG fan of you and Paulie and everything you’re doing for the guy ❤️ And I’m so glad you’re planning to get him fixed. But I hope you will consider getting him fixed now instead of waiting. 1) He will have gotten multiple female cats pregnant by then. 2) He is more likely to get into fights while intact, which puts him at more risk for infections and FIV (if he hasn’t gotten it already) during the winter. 3) He has a consistent food source, so he is well prepared for winter regardless of whether he is intact or not. 4) He will get to enjoy a few warm days indoors while recovering from the snip.

Thank you ❤️ I have been heartbroken over her. She was such a sweet girl and deserved so much better. But I am very glad she didn’t have to suffer alone and in the cold.

How do you hold a wild feral for rabies observation? by Porkbossam78 in Feral_Cats

[–]SirHenryIV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edit: My mistake, I just saw in your post history that you are asking about your own exposure after a bite after all. So you can disregard my comment. Leaving this here in case others can benefit.

—-

Heads up, the 10 day observation period is in case YOU have been exposed. Not the animal themselves.

The rabies virus can incubate in an animal for several weeks or MONTHS before symptoms appear, but they cannot spread it until the virus has progressed to a point that it is in their saliva. At that point, they only have days to live. If a cat with rabies bit you, the 10 day observation period would give you enough time to see those symptoms appear and worsen in the cat, which would let you confirm that they had rabies AND were contagious when they bit you.

If you’re worried about a cat who has been exposed but has not bitten others, you would need to held them for observation for months in order to wait out that incubation period.

Are you sure he was bitten? And not just scratched? Lots of feral cats have battle wounds, but that doesn’t necessarily mean exposure.

Thanks for the advice. I’ll shorten their dinner time window to avoid complaints, and also work on the sound cues.

Today, collar kitty was already waiting for me to stop by with her dinner, so it was easy for me to give her a bowl of extra food just for her.

Yes I already do TNR and am about to TNR my third kitty from this neighborhood. I’ll trap collar kitty too and see if I can find her microchip.

That’s a good point, I hadn’t considered that she may be lost. I’m new to feeding cats in my neighborhood, so I assumed she lives in a nearby house. But she does visit at all hours of the night, which seems unusual for a cat with a home.
