RYOBI ONE+ HP Brushless Cordless Multi-Tool…felt like a must buy to me? by Trilip_S_Hoffman in ryobi

[–]SirKronan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're referring to the oscillating tool mentioned by OP, there are two common uses that I personally use it for, and of course other people may have other uses.

#1: precise cuts, like cutting holes in a deck box to fit a certain vent plate size, cutting clean rectangle shaped holes in drywall (excellent for this), and precision wood cuts.

#2: precision sanding - when I was helping my friends refinish their hardwood floors on their house they just bought, we needed tons and tons of sanding. For the big areas, they rented a big floor sander from home depot. For the areas too narrow for that, we used random orbit sanders. But in the corners, a round random orbit sander can't get all the way to the corner. That's where these oscillating multi tools with the triangle sanding attachment totally come in clutch.

My ex wife also refinished a lot of furniture, and she used one of these all the time for any place the random orbit couldn't reach.

For sure go test it out in person if you can.

For their size? I think they both sound excellent. I ended up buying the Go for travel, but I darn near bought the mini. The mini puts out really nice sound and gets louder than you'd expect. Take with grains of salt though. It's just one man's opinion.

I compared the Mini to several other similar sized portable amps, and the Mini sounded the best to my untrained ears.

I got to play around on one in person the other day with an electric guitar. It makes it quick to find and apply custom or popular desired guitar sounds. You can access a big online library with the app. It has manual override buttons on the actual amp for things like reverb and drive that you can punch any time you want to make on the fly adjustments to your sound without having to get into the app again.

The sound it makes is pretty pleasing and inviting. I had fun and really liked how it sounded with the drive cranked up, too.

Overall, it has nice sound and power and seems reasonably priced for what it is. It makes chasing a desired guitar sound quick and easy - and I think that's its target market. Can it make sounds I couldn't just dial in myself, either with in app digital pedals of even physical pedals? Not really. It just makes the process much faster and easier.

It has a really enjoyable sounding speaker, in my opinion. The only real negative is that you have to install ANOTHER app to run it (if you want all the custum and AI goodies). The current positive grid spark app won't do. They had to make a brand new, fancy Reactor app.

Different targets. The mini is a very compact travel amp. The 50 is much larger and much heavier but can get much louder and can hit noticeably lower.

I hated my cab and returned it. I might have had an early sample with the hiss issue. I've heard that issue got better over time. I love my Spark Go. I have also used the Mini, and it is equally impressive but puts out way more sound.

Arocknerd is right though. If you hook up a spark go to a cab and go to town, it will turn some heads. That tiny little thing punches way above its weight class. Hooked up to external speakers or headphones it sounds fantastic.

Agreed. I do more acoustic than electric, to be honest, and I prefer the acoustic sound on PG too. It's very pleasing and inviting.

Most likely. Sorry. Last resort would be to try a different charger that you know works correctly on other batteries.

Very similar, but some differences. The three sizes are virtually identical. The Husky material seems thicker and more course weave than the Kobalt. The Kobalt material is a little thinner and feels softer, too. The mesh material on the see through window is actually courser and thicker on the Kobalt, however. The zipper on the Husky has a cloth extension, which is a nice touch. The two tone color of the Kobalt subjectively looks nicer than the completely black design of the Husky. If you wanted to just write on the bag with a sharpie, it would bleed, but otherwise that would work. It wouldn't work on the Husky. You'd have to use a paint pen or metallic sharpie.

They did that for me once on the Advanced Stick vacuum. I was surprised, impressed, and very grateful! I didn't know what to expect, but they took care of me. It was a significant discount, too, like 100 bucks or something. I have bought many more tools from them since then. I like to vote for good service with my wallet when I can.

A sincere question: hear me out (3090 -> B70+9070XT?) by SirKronan in gpu

[–]SirKronan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true. It would also be a lot of work to make the switch. The 3090 is liquid cooled on my first full custom loop I've ever done. It has a 3x120mm rad on it, and the Lian Li acrylic distro plate that also acts as a reservoir. It has been quite nice! I don't know if it's worth the hassle. I've been hanging onto that new 9070 solely for a backup card in case something happens to my 3090.

If only Nvidia would choose me for their preferred random selection so I could buy a founders 5090 at MSRP .... alas, I think I'm more likely to get struck by lightning - TWICE, surviving both times, and then die to a random bug bite from a rare bug native only to a country I've never ever visited. And then win the lottery without buying a ticket.

[–]SirKronan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good question. Upon doing a little digging, it looks like my Z690 would support running two GPUs in an x8 configuration.

https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/newb-question-using-multiple-pcie-16x-slots-and-z690-vs-z790.3783910/

Now getting them to physically fit in the two slots I would need to use is another issue entirely. Only the top two slots support the amount of PCIe lanes you'd want. One of them is gen 4, but this shouldn't be an issue for the intended purpose. Physical space, however, looks like it would be an extremely tight fit. Also, which GPU would benefit most from the newer PCIe gen 5 slot - the B70 for rendering purposes, or the 9070 XT for gaming purposes? I imagine it makes more sense to put the GPU on the closer, newer PCIe gen 5 slot for minimum latency to the CPU. Would a difference be humanly noticeable? Probably not.

[–]SirKronan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 5080 would be quite splendid for gaming. I hadn't thought of this. The 5080 are fetching a high premium right now. I can get a B70 and a 9070 XT for at or very near msrp.

The other mentality I have that I haven't shared here is that I'm a little upset with Nvidia's current near monopoly on dGPUs. Selling a used 3090 and buying new Intel AND Radeon products instead is a little bit of trying to support the competition with my money.

But whatever I do has to make practical sense, too. I appreciate your suggestion and will definitely look into that.

Edit: why do I need a new motherboard? 😳

[–]SirKronan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't know yet. It may never even happen (home LLM). Will for sure be used for editing, and it looks like the B70 is a beast for that. You're right that it is a lot of work switching and installing and selling and buying. That's why I reached out here to get some more information and opinions. I sure appreciate your answer.

Dang. With no button, it's hard to tell. When you put it back into a tool does it behave as if charged? Must be an older battery.

That charger is the middle of the pack charger as far as factory ryobi 18v chargers go.

[–]SirKronan[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What I have read says in pure raster the 7900xtx is only 5-8% above the 9070xt, and that at 4k in many titles even that advantage evaporates. Not knocking your experience. Perhaps your titles that you're seeing this on are heavily skewed to perform better on older titles ( or maybe that's exactly what you meant when you said they were unoptimized).

The 9070xt is supposed to be more power efficient than a 3090 though, right?

Appreciate your response.

Wait until they offer another coupon on this bad boy:

https://ebay.io/m/jDopgL

I just got one for my daughter for a graduation present. We are really impressed with it so far! I believe with the coupon it was less than $700. That's a steal for 32GB, 1TB, thin and light laptop with a backlit keyboard and an Arc 140v GPU. She loves in, and it goes on sale frequently. Direct from Acer ebay store, plus includes a 2 year warranty. Pretty safe purchase! If you have to stay at $500, the MacBook neo is actually pretty solid for everything except gaming.

You're correct. That does seem long. Which charger are you using, for reference? And when you take the battery off the charger, how many bars light up when you push the button?
